The fact that Anthony's brain completely short circuits every time he lays eyes on kate since the moment he first saw her and the number of times he just can't stop looking at her really explains a lot of this season.
@priki2 жыл бұрын
Agreed! A lot of what he does - or doesn't do - can be chalked up to him not being able to think properly at the time or having a knee-jerk reaction to being unable to deny what he is actually feeling, in spite of what he believes he should do.
@crystalrose_pa2 жыл бұрын
While I do think Kate and Anthony needed to confront their feelings and be honest with Edwina, I will say this in Anthony's defense - he was very upfront with Edwina at the poetry reading that he could not provide her the passion she desires but that he'll step up when it comes to action and duty. And Kate was like, "See? He can't give you the love you want" and Edwina's response was "Does that make him a bad man, or an honest one?" so she knew going in it would basically be a marriage of convenience where they would just be fulfilling their roles. I think she just got swept up in it all (which is totally fair and understandable). Love all three of them though! Flawed characters are the best characters.
@nix27472 жыл бұрын
Exactly! And Kate had been telling her from the start that he would not marry for love and he didn't love her (Edwina) but she persisted anyways... She can't be mad now when the thing people (including the 2 people involved) had been telling her from the start turn out to be true.
@crystalrose_pa2 жыл бұрын
@@nix2747 I mean, I still think Edwina's feelings are valid because it probably seems to her like Kate was saying all that stuff so she could have Anthony for herself and they weren't being honest with her. But I don't think she's the victim of a big heartbreak like it may seem. I think she's more hurt that her sister wasn't honest with her (about 2 things now including the Sheffields) and feels like they kind of played her making her feel foolish. All totally valid feelings even though they're based on inaccuracies.

As an older sister, I would sacrifice anything and everything if it meant my sister would be happy. I was mad at Edwina after awhile because she didn’t even attempt to listen to Kate’s side of things. I’ve been on that side of an argument with my sister and I let her be mad at me because it was easier for her to be angry and me to take it than for her to be sad. And she was acting like Kate wasn't trying to tell her he didn't love her from the very first episode. The revelation at the wedding that he didn't love her couldn't have been a surprise.
@emmaoline80382 жыл бұрын
I believe Edwina said half-sister because she didn’t feel like Kate treated her like a sister at that moment. I think she’s more upset to realise that Kate didn’t see her as a equal or as a woman, but merely a child in need of coddling, than Kate having feelings for Anthony. Why didn’t she respect her enough to be honest? She would have gladly stepped aside if she’d known before accepting his proposal. Instead now she has to choose to either marry the man her sister loves, or risk ruining herself and her family’s safety. Even if the scandal doesn’t ruin her reputation, her lack of a dowery is enough to see her never be married. I also think Edwina wants the best for Kate and wants her to be happy, so she’s also angry that Kate put her in a position where she’d rob her sister of happiness without even knowing it. She’s been causing Kate pain for months without realising it because Kate was being a martyr. That is not to say I think Kate doesn’t respect Edwina, but that is how I read Edwinas reaction. Kate had all the best intentions at heart, and her love for her sister is greater than her love for herself, but that love is what put them in the precarious situation.

@ingridsouza97952 жыл бұрын
@@chioma_n.6707 I agree with you but also I think Kate did tell Edwina this wouldn't work out because Anthony was never what her sister truly deserved. In regards of her feelings I believe that in Kate's mind she never could be an option for Anthony because of her parents. She also knew Anthony - after getting to know him a bit more - was a good enough person so he would take good care of Edwina even if he never loved her and he would also provide for Mary. They really needed the money so it depended on Edwina marrying not only a rich lord but someone kind enough that would look out for them. That's why her feelings didn't matter especially as she was set to return home. I'm not saying Kate is in the right, but I think she was desperate enough that she didn't know how to get out of that mess, what with the mamas agreeing with the engagement, nobody saying a word to stop this train wreck and so on. Everything was so messy lol It didn't sit right with me how they changed their minds sooo many times, it just became boring. Anthony tells Edwina he will never love her, Kate says it too, but Edwina just dismisses it and later on she gets pissed???? Kate was against the marriage but when Anthony tries to call it off she convinces him otherwise??? @@ingridsouza9795 Yeah the whole situation is just really messy cuz it’s between sisters. I think there wouldn’t even have been a love triangle if Kate told Edwina about her and Anthony, I mean, Edwina would’ve had to think about it but ultimately I think she would be in full support of them like she was at the end of the season. Anthony was also to blame for trying to rush the engagement with Edwina and not listening to Daphne or Violet. I was kinda annoyed with tbh, I was like “just tell her you love her and be happy already”. But I’m happy that Kate and Anthony got together in the end, I just feel like the happiness could’ve been achieved a bit sooner and without much scandal but it is a drama so…

I’m team everyone. Kate tried to put a stop to it the whole way through. It wasn’t until Edwina said she loved him and Kate felt it had got to the point of no return before she changed her mind. She sacrificed her own happiness and fought for Edwina the whole way through. Edwina has every right to be upset at being kept in the dark regarding what was happening between Kate & Anthony and the inheritance scheme. But she also completely ignored the many facts that were staring her in the face. She questioned Anthony’s feelings in private to Kate and Mary, but never thought to ask him until after the wedding??? Anthony is the one who stuffed up the most. Proposing to Edwina was stupid, and a horrible thing to do to both girls. But at the same time he was very clear to Edwina in the beginning that he couldn’t give her passion and only offered duty. He wasn’t sweet talking her, he never said he loved her, he was polite and dutiful and nothing more towards her the whole way through.

I realize that is going on on a lot of people's minds at 12:21 - why didn't she just admit to what she was feeling, married Anthony and took care of Edwina and their mother? But the truth is that Kate is all "wrong" for him, if he indeed needs to marry for the sake of his family: her father was a nobody in the eyes of the ton, so much so that Mary gets ostracised by her family and society for marrying him. Edwina is the one with family connections in the horrid Sheffields. This is why Daphne tries to make him see that his family doesn't expect him to marry "right" for them, he is alone putting all this pressure on himself. They only wish for him to be happy. Also, Kate thinks her needs and wants need to come after Edwina's, because she feels the same as Anthony when it comes to family. In the book, what connects them is they both have serious trauma they haven't dealt with; in the series, it's their misguided notion that they must put what they think their family wants or needs before anything they might want or need. The way this is set up, their noble idiocy makes complete sense, and I love it how the writers wrote them considering this change.

Apparently Kate and Anthony are caught during the bee scene in episode 3 (only it’s a bit more scandalous) and HAVE to get married to avoid scandal, so edwina is never really hurt or develops feelings for Anthony to get hurt by that point. To have 2 seasons in a row where the characters have to get married to avoid scandal would have been too repetitive. -Edwina cannot deny that her sister warned her that Anthony would not marry for love. -Fun fact, Gossip Girl is based on this books. -Not Anthony sniffing the air. In the book, Kate smells like lilies and Anthony likes that smell. -I did not like that they make Eloise a girl who is inconsiderate of others. -In Penelope's defense, she warned Eloise that if she kept going with Theo something would happen, and she did, the queen's lackeys followed her too. If Penelope hadn't revealed Eloise's secret, the queen would have severely punished the Bridgertons without hesitation. If the queen finds out who the real Lady Whistledown is, and if the queen is really piss off, Penelope and her whole family would fall into disgrace and have no chance of surviving because they would become pariahs. Eloise doesn't think about the consequences because she has a wealthy family. If Eloise falls from grace, her brother who is Viscount and her brother-in-law who is Duke would try to protect her, Penelope has no one. -My favorite Kanthony moment of the whole show is this one 20:10. ✌️😁

I do understand Edwina and I was worried about her being hurt, but I truly don't understand why she was talking to Kate like /that/. Especially the day after. Kate literally sacrificed everything to her, and sure she didn't ask for it, but that's what older sisters do (I'm an older sister lol). Watching Edwina saying those things and then remembering THAT conversation between Kate and Lady Danbury at the beginning of the season just hurts. Edwina has every right to be mad, but she also really need to actually hear Kate's side of the WHOLE story - that started when their father passed away, and not with Anthony.

I love both Edwina and Kate but I ship Kate and Anthony! And Penelope is in such a hard position, I'm so pissed that she wrote what she did, but at the same time it's really the only way to convince the queen Eloise isn't Whistledown while also keeping that dangerous secret still a secret, and telling Eloise probably wouldn't have done anything except maybe reinforce Eloise's desire to pretend to be Whistledown with Penelope helping her

Just binge-watched this season a few days ago myself and it was SO frustrating, but also really good! :'D I am completely Team Kate. Edwina is sweet and smart and everything, but Kate did keep warning her that the viscount couldn't give her what she wanted (love), and even Anthony himself implied as much. He admittedly never came out and plainly said "I cannot love you", but he never mentioned love in any of his promises to her. As for Penelope, it was very cold of her to do what she did to Eloise. I get she did it to save her from the queen, but it also further protected Penelope herself. Thinking about it now, couldn't she just have been honest with Eloise? Just said "Look, I'm Lady Whistledown. You're my best friend, and I'll help you. Let's brainstorm together and find a way out of this." Then maybe she could suggest writing something about Eloise to throw the queen off, and Eloise could have helped her come up with something that she herself approved of that wouldn't have hurt her or her reputation so badly because she'd know about it and approve it herself. That could have easily solved that problem! But Pen is so used to keeping this secret, I guess she saw this as the only way, rather than reveal herself to Eloise, she threw her under the proverbial carriage to save her. And it worked, but... pretty harsh, Pen... I still love Penelope though. ;w; And Eloise. Poor El. 😢 Also, is it just me, or does all that staring between Anthony and Kate remind you of all the staring between Edward and Bella in Twilight? XD

Team Kate and that pains me because their sisterhood in the books was so beautiful. But Edwina proved too many times that she did not value Kate the same way Kate valued her. She said she did but we never saw it through actions. Had she valued Kate she would have listened the first time she warned her against pursuing Anthony. Edwina had every right to be angry after coming to the realization of what was happening and she was making points in her speech until she said she didn’t know what hurt her more the betrayal or the pity Kate had for her. Like what? What are you even saying? After that her speech was just a whole lot of nothing and ultimately fell flat. The writers tried to make her have a moment in episode 6 but she came off ungrateful and spoiled. How easy is it to say you didn’t ask for any of this when you’ve already reaped the benefits. It got to the point where I thought is she angry that Kate kept her feelings from her or is she angry that for once in her life she wouldn’t be getting what she wanted?

"... you know, there's bushes here, bushes to the left, y'all should maybe hide.." YES. The first time I watched that scene I was SO uncomfortable! It's so hot, but there are over 15 people in that house and the whole movie has been people barging into rooms without knocking! There is absolutely no way that someone would see a light on in the garden and not come check it out immediately! I was so stressed in the beginning when Antoni started pulling off Kate's stockings! There's some things you might be able to explain away, but what other reason would you have for taking those off??

Now that I've watched both seasons, I wonder if they're actually telling three stories at once. The main one, the side one foreshadowing next season's story, and Lady Whistledown. Season 1: Daphnes season, Anthony's side story, and Charlotte. Season 2: Anthony's season, Eloises side story, and Charlotte. If I'm right, Eloises story is next.

My favorite Kate and Anthony moment is the bee scene because it was when we see Anthony at the most vulnerable in the entire series period. Edwina, poor her, but she be trifling just a tiny bit, but also understandable to be like this though.

Kate and Edwina are truly the best sisters. I love that Edwina is played as super sweet and naive all through the series and her growth is basically to grow a backbone and stand up to her mother and sister and take control of her own destiny, even thought they genuinely want the best for her based on their experiences. Kate also is happy to just fade into the background as a governess in India as long as her sister is happy and well provided for and her mother will be as well by extension. Best girls!

As the youngest sibling in my family, I totally get why Edwina feels the way she does. Younger siblings often feel like their opinions and insight do not matter when the older siblings keep important information from them, or try to "protect" them from things that may hurt them (even though in the long run, letting younger siblings in on the information would be best for both parties). Instead of being honest with us, younger siblings are often infantilized and not given the respect we deserve by allowing us a seat at the table to have the "hard conversations". It may come off as older siblings wanting to be protective, but for younger siblings, it is taken as a sign of disrespect. And is more hurtful because it only reinforces the idea that our voices do not matter when it comes to making important decisions or having the full picture - "you're too young to understand" or "what do you know about grown up matters". The "protectiveness" over one's younger sibling can create an environment that is very invalidating for younger siblings, and we often have to try and overcome that in other relationships. So yea, I am 100% on Edwina's side on the issue of Kate not telling her about her feelings for Anthony. I never saw it as Edwina being upset that Kate had feelings for Anthony, but rather that Kate was not honest and did not give Edwina the respect to treat her like a grown up and have an honest conversation with her.
@wg34642 жыл бұрын
As an older sister I have the opposite view, I see it that often younger siblings are too busy trying to prove they are as adult or grown up as the older siblings but so much so that they often disregard advice and go about doing what they want because they 'aren't a child', and by acting in that way it is childish and immature and why older siblings often treat them as children. Edwina was a perfect example of this, Kate told her on a number of occasions that Anthony did not want love and would not love her, Kate also told her in the beginning how Anthony was being deceptive with her and not presenting himself honestly, but Edwina refused to listen or ask Kate why she believed that, instead wanting to prove herself an adult she continued to build a fantasy around Anthony with no awareness of what he was actually like, or reading any of the signs that he really wasn't going to love her. Even Daphne pretty much told Edwina that Anthony wasn't the perfect man she had built up in her fantasy, but Edwina still lived in her little girl fantasy world, then she got angry and blamed Kate when it all came crashing down and she realised the fantasy wasn't the reality, without any self reflection or acknowledgement she was wrong. Those are the actions of an immature child not the adult Edwina claimed to be. Edwina continued to be cruel and petty towards Kate, and she never acknowledged that Kate was correct about Anthony not being the right man for her.
@prc19632 жыл бұрын
@@wg3464 Your take seems to lack a reflection on a lot of things that require contextualization. First, I agree Kate mentions Anthony doesn’t want love and that he isn’t the right suitor from episode 1-3, but what she NEVER divulges to Edwina is the most important aspect of the entire plot line: that Kate and Anthony have developed feelings for one another. All these ancillary topics of “He is a womanizer”, “he values duty over love” - when weighed against the most important truth at the heart of the season - become seemingly counterfeit reasons to dissuade Edwina, when the truth, the most VALUABLE of truths, is what will in fact persuade Edwina not to marry Anthony. And the people who have that information are the eldest siblings who have unilaterally decided it is best to keep that truth hidden from Edwina. Second, it’s interesting you made no mention of that being the point of my comment - that what Edwina is truly hurt by is the lack of honesty on Kate's part to tell her about her feelings for Anthony. Instead, you chose to blame shift and incorrectly put the onus on Edwina to "read" the situation, when Kate can just as easily choose to communicate with her sister the feelings that she has. Third, Edwina may live in a fantasy, but let us not forget Kate has a hand in weaving that fantasy - choosing to keep the harder facts of life at bay when their father died, neglecting to tell Edwina about the deal with the Sheffields, filling Edwina's head with stories of love and grandeur that are not rooted in reality, and then tethering those idealistic frameworks of love as something Edwina should expect IN reality. And then to top it off, both Kate and Anthony becoming co-conspirators within that fantasy by choosing not to be truthful yet AGAIN at the end of episode 5. Daphne, Lady Danbury and Anthony’s mother are the consistent voices throughout the season that tell both Kate and Anthony they will only end up hurting themselves if they are not truthful about how they feel. And to a point, they KNOW this to be true. Kate tries to tell Edwina the truth at the end of episode 4 & Anthony tries to do the right thing at the end of episode 5. What stops them BOTH is the other elder sibling pushing their agenda and their ideas of what is "best" for Edwina and thwarting the truth from coming to light. So yes, perhaps Edwina lives in a fantasy, but let us not forget that if Edwina lives in a fantasy, it is at the expense of Kate and Anthony living in a nightmare of their own creation by hiding their emotional ineptitude under the guise of "familial duty". The most adult thing Edwina did was tell both Kate and Anthony, after she had 100% of the information and was NOT being fed "half-truths", that it is solely her choice to wed or not wed, without undue influence from either sibling. As for Edwina being cruel, is that not warranted??? God forbid a woman be upset when she finds out the man she is betrothed to and her sister have been hiding feelings for each other at the expense of sparing her feelings? Would you NOT have a few spiteful comments to throw around if your best friend and soon-to-be husband cared that much for each other and did not tell you BEFORE you walked down the aisle where you had to figure out that sordid little detail? No one is asking for Kate & Anthony to be perfect, otherwise we wouldn't have plot. But when evaluating the motivations and internal workings of a character who has been put through the public ringer because she was upset about not being told the whole truth, then let us also be sure to evaluate whether those feelings and motivations are warranted. To me, they are, and the main characters seem to agree - Kate telling Anthony that he cannot fault Edwina for being "harsher than he knew her capable of being" and Kate realizing that she ruined Edwina's life by playing a part in the wedding farce. The whole arc of the season is committed to telling us Kate & Anthony are in the wrong for what they did to Edwina, and had they chosen honesty over suppressing their feelings, things would have gone more smoothly. In fact, it is Edwina who facilitates that space for honesty - which is the mature thing to do - in episode 8 when she tells Kate to stop shining all her light on her and keep some of that light for herself because Kate is DESERVING. To me, Edwina is not childish, she is the only wise person in the room. She is only shown to be childish when the eldest siblings play-act as adults who infantilize her, when they really should be listening to her.
