A lot of issues on this one. Thinking quad bikes are not really built for this. Seems like a bit more engineering needs to go into making things tougher. Totally psyched to watch the series though. Thanks for taking us along and thanks to all the participated and helped with the journey.

Wow, so much mayhem on day one! I just finished watching Kara and Nate cycle across the US in 36 days, and while their bike broke down a lot too, their back wheel only stopped spinning on day 30 or so... Either they got really lucky or adding just one more rider really increases the technical risks exponentially! I hope things got better for the race after day one...

Same here, and I completely agree, so much force and weight with just 3 ppl

Also, these guys are racing, meaning pushing harder on the bike than just riding.

Same here. Very concerning about the breakdown. The trandem had much less pressure yet same chain issues. Interesting to see how it all goes.. .

😉 If you have the Quad Championship again next year, I think Kara & Nate will probably enter. They've been doing a cycle challenge almost every year: Tuscany, Colorado Trail, Ragbrai, and Across America.

As a kiwi myself I was pleasantly surprised to see a NZ team taking part, even if their fall took them out. Hope they weren't too banged up. The episode definitely kept me on the edge of my seat and I can't wait to see how the event plays out!

Quite a start for all the teams. It’s crazy this occurs with quad tandems right after the Kara & Nate series riding a trandem across the USA. Yes, 3100 miles CA to MD with 2 sets of 3 riders. Women for 1/2 day and men to finish each day. They had many of the same issues.

I recommend dropper posts to assist in safer starts/stops. As soon as the team is rolling they can raise their saddles. When starting, I recommend the rear rider starts raising the saddle once the bike is stable, then each rider calls out forward in turn as they raise their saddles and get into cruising position and cadence. On a stop the posts can all drop together or as each rider desires.

We have a bike ride across our state once a year. It's not a race just a ride. They probably have from 10,000 to 20,000 riders riding at least part of the ride. They have several ambulances traveling with them, along with military biker groups that help others out riding across the state. It's quite a big deal.

I want to race this! or even be a neutral volunteer mechanic for a race! A few suggestions: The wheels and brakes need to be pro mtb downhiller quality. The fork needs to be something from NitroCircus capable of withstanding massive jumps. I made another comment about using dropper posts for safer starts/stops. I think that would help a lot. ---- I would love to read the rules of this race. I think there's room for major aerodynamic gains unless the rules disallow fairings. And if fairings are prohibited then I would locate water and fuel storage in such a way that it provides the best aerodynamic advantage.

It would be cool to partner with a big bike brand who can build you guys a bike that can stand up to the load. Also I think the sport would benefit more from a total time win rather than a position based one due to the staggered starts. Time starts when you set off, stops when you either hit the end of a checkpoint/end of the race to determine how fast they went through. Maybe a bit more regulations in terms of spare parts, a team mechanic, and each team having their own support vehicle. Also a certified medic(s) for the race lol, one for either every team or one that stays in the middle of the pack that can get to any team pretty quickly. I think this could have some great potential for a big sport. Biking is already incredibly world wide. Would be cool to see this grow.
