The pool is very slow this year. Apparently not deep enough for the Swimmers. (You’re right! I saw many near misses) Lots of complaints about the food and horrible box beds? 🙈 Nevertheless the USA Stacks up Gold in other events as well. It’s far from over. Last Olympics USA got out to a very slow start. And ended up winning the Olympics with the Most Medals and overall Gold Tally. We shall see

Depends how many points you give to the gold medal. If you say 3 pts for gold, 2 pts for silver and 1 pt for bronze the US has 36 pts. And France would be second with 34.

The US is the only country that ranks medals based on the total amount. All the other countries rank them based on the amount of gold medals, because they obviously are woth more. The usual convention is for medal count to be based first on golds won, secondly on silver and third on bronze. However, this method puts the US well down the medal tally. Naturally, US media can't have that.

It would be fairer and better to measure the worth of the medals by awarding points to the medals won for crowning overall team leadership. Example, one gold medal is worth 6 points, silver 2 points and bronze 0.25 point. That is to say, 3 silver medals to match one gold medal(6 points) and 4 bronze medals to match one silver medal points(2 points). As of today's medal tally, France would be the leader and China would be 2nd by virtue of this point system! PS : note China : G-9 S-7 B-3 = 68.75 points (54+14+0.75) France : G-8 S-10 B-8 = 70 points (48+20+2)

Us Aussies are great in the pool, but we cannot compete in most of the other areas outside of this, ultimately I imagine the US will win the most Golds and Medals as you just have too much depth across all sports for this not to happen.
