I actually love the idea of archetype packs. One of the decks I want to make is a merfae deck, but the merfae cards are currently only in the set rise of the duelist. Since sets are completly luck based( and I dont have money to just throw out the window), it makes it really hard for me to get those cards without wasting money on pack filler. So id say especially for players who dont have lots of money it would really help those players.

The card text and readability is such a HUGE issue in this game. Out of all the card games out there, YuGiOh has the smallest card size and the most text on the cards. Having the text so small and having to have an essay on majority of cards today, its overwhelming especially for a new player.

Hot Take: Hand Traps need more of an activation cost besides discarding themselves. people wouldnt be so salty about getting "ashed" if Ash Blossom also took 2000 life points with her, or coting the controller their next draw phase. warm take: Konami needs to knock off the shortprinting on Duelist packs and Deck Build sets. those sets are for casual players. and a casual player isnt gonna drop 100 bucks on a card, no matter what nostalgia archetype to hook it onto.

I don't think handtraps need more activation costs, it would just make going first easier and stronger. Konami should rather try to design handtraps that are more effective against meta than casual decks. Obviously agree with the second take.

I think the "Ignore summoning conditions" comment was in relation to cards like the Sacred Beasts who have a ton of cards that ignore there summoning conditions but due to certain rulings they cannot be special summoned from the grave even with a card that ignores said conditions because it was not properly summoned the first time.

I think more about that first comment is moreso. FTK and oppressive board decks dont promote fun gameplay in general. The question i think was moreso i dont care if my opponent has fun. Which imo is one of the biggest problems in modern ygo rn, theres no player compassion. People will go just as hard on you if you're a seasoned veteran or a 5 year old with a starter deck. Imo if you're making the game actively unfun for other people, thats when it gets to be a problem

That is only the case on competetive yugioh, where winning sometimes comes at the cost of player interactivity. In casual yugioh, many players are a lot more chilled since they don't want to win no matter what, but rather have fun with what they like to play, and that are really often interactive and fair decks.

I think the point of "make plays to stop your opponent playing" is it's just bad that Yu-Gi-Oh has come to the point of that. The power-creep should've been held a little more slowly, even if it is too late, to keep the format alive and going. Then another format wouldn't been here so soon. If we're going to be making negates, floodgates, handtraps, draw power, or card protection, there should be a lot of specifics that would keep them from being abused or have more consistency at doing what it does. For a basic example, " _If you control 3 or more DARK and/or LIGHT Beast, Beast-Warrior, and/or Winged Beast monsters, except Tokens: You can reveal 3 of those monsters from your hand; draw 2 cards. You can only activate 1 "(insert name here)" per turn_ ."

Hot Take : Yugioh's power creep would be a lot more manageable if so many power cards weren't so goddamn generic and only worked for the archetypes they were meant to support. Look at Needlefibre. It was made to support crystrons yet because its so generic, it gets abused by every other deck that plays tuners. Meta decks abuse genric power cards meant for specific archetypes but after the dust settles and the card gets hit, its the intended deck/archetype that suffers while Meta players just move to another broken deck.

I think the people who say that it doesn't take skill to play meta, stun etc. Really mean to say that they're not hard, or nowhere near as difficult. Since they'll either be super simple(in the case of burn/stall/lockdown decks) or so widely known and used so frequently, that everyone knows how to play them or a general idea(in the case of meta). Whereas with any other deck, you'll have to put in more effort into dweck building, memorizing combos and where to place what etc and, since in most cases, you'll already know really well how to run the deck since you put more effort into it. I also think the person who had the take about bullet points in card text meant just anytime something is ALREADY reprinting, or when a new card is made, that they should print the cars text in the ocg style with bullet points to help with readability

I think if you're going to have a lewd playmat you should have another more publically acceptable one on back up. I have a pretty nice pin up mat I use with friends but I have a plain old orange one I keep for playing games at LGSs. But clearly the guy who made the initial tweet hates fun if he thinks we should only be using single color sleeves. Theres so many cool art sleeves out there.

I agree! I understand the worry of marking cards, but if that were the case have the sleeves inspected before a duel. People love expressing themselves thru their cards, and it's not always Lewd. Mats will be covered by cards, so it's not as big a deal but still agree with a back up should be in the arsenal. Some love it, some are offend, it's about respect between players. Please mind your environment, be considerate of your opponents, and show good sportsmanship!

@@BlackLotusFlame I think the problem with art sleeves is that differences can be incredibly subtle which an inspection wont be able to find unless they know exactly what they are looking for. Like say in the background of your cards there are 16 tiny stars, but in 2 specific cards there are 17. It may seem like too much of an extra mile to go through for a little bit of information, but it's still better to maintain the integrity of the game at the highest levels at least.

Konami’s legendary hero decks are great for the game. Imagine two brothers or friends looking to get in the game. 3 decks 2 really good one and the 3rd extra staples. Good reprints and decks that all introduce people into a summoning mechanic that they wouldn’t have access to outside of online. I only mention this because I bought the legendary hero deck with a friend and since I bought an entire sky striker deck and others because it was exactly what I needed to try and play again

my hot take is that power cards that are used in basically every deck (stuff like hand traps, solemn strike, that kind of thing) should always be released as commons first, making it super easy for people to pick them up, and then have high rarity versions release in later pack, or the special tournament packs and so on. cards like that are so powerful and so commonly used, that their rarity means that only the rich players can afford to run them until they get reprints normally, by making them commons on release, this would solve that issue, and still give high rarity version to players that can afford to spend more money on shiny cardboard

Ugh...It pains me to even have to say this: Competitive Yu-Gi-Oh is not about what fun you might have. It's about getting an advantage, in the most effective way you can achieve it. PERIOD. I don't liike it. I don't want to play that way. But I don't have to! There's people in my regional community where I can still make my Six Samurai Deck(with ONE XYZ Monster)work. I don't need to replace all I like to play, to adjust to some meta. BUT: When you go out to try and prove you're the best/luckiest/most strategic Yu-Gi-Oh player on a national level, you better have all the most effective shit, tht's available. It's not about having fun with friends. It's a competition.

60% of the problems the issues brought up with competitive could be solved by addressing the new player experience problem. Another 20% could be solved with destigmatizing proxies in casual.

I want better legacy support. Like the issue of legacy decks losing to handtraps wouldn’t be an issue if we had better support that let us play thru those handtraps. I also gotta say that both FTKs and decks that set up 5+ negates aren’t any fun. They really promote an unhealthy gamestate where it’s basically whoever wins the die roll is guaranteed to win the match. Everyone likes having an ftk deck or a deck that sets up a crap load of negates until they lose a couple die rolls and gotta just sit there and lose without being able to do anything.

The hardest part of being a stubborn casual player is wanting to play what you like and wanting what you like to be good. Sadly a lot of the earlier cards/archetypes and some of the newer cards/archetypes were designed with such a low power ceiling or incomplete support and there's nothing that can be done to make them comparable to the strongest decks except massive erratas. The strongest Yubel deck with everything going right for it will still likely lose to a poorly made/budget Altergeist. Sure the competitive end should be strong, but the casual end shouldn't be SO FAR behind it; the gap is too wide in my opinion.

I would absolutely love to see a side event at a ycs for unique combos, one of the best parts of the ygo community is the creativity with deckbuilding and unique combos, something about getting stomped by something entirely unique is so cool to me, and having that avenue for people who have that kind of creativity would be amazing to see.

My Problem with MR4 was, that every format before they added to the existing format. So if you didnt want to use the new mechanics or just involve them slightly, you had the option to do so. When Link came around, many decks just didnt work anymore. Sure, in the space of a new format these decks wouldve been bad anyways but at least they wouldve worked the same way they did before. Link just straight up killed so many decks because they just didnt work with the new summoning method. At least now they fixed this, MR5 is what MR4 shouldve been in the first place, a addition to gameplay not a cutback on already existing content.

The fact every deck's strategy is the exact same through different means (effectively: your opp. can't play YGO anymore) is what turns me off of current format. Interaction whose sole purpose is to prevent interaction from your opponent doesn't make for an interactive game.

Calvin’s complaint, that reprints make good cards more affordable and more people will be playing them, 16:48 just sounds like gatekeeping to me. Tournaments will be filled with the richest players, but not necessarily the best players. Reason why I mentioned the handtraps in casual play is that these archetypes are often released in modern sets (TG and Fortune Ladies only really became a playable deck in 2019) but due to the cards being played at a casual level, decks from 2019 can't be played in 2019. And that just sucks. What's the point in printing these cards if you can't enjoy em at even a casual level? It honestly just made me quit playing irl as there is no point... If I want to play a competitive game I'll just play Tekken or something.

So are you playing a bad deck against a bad deck? If so I have no idea how you can't win even once against a mere Ash. If you think your opponent has an Ash try and play around it. I mean if they aren't playing something amazing and half their hand is hand traps they probably can't ftk you anyway.

So I'm way too late but hay. When is losing fun? Losing is fun when you still feel like you played, that is, you 'did something' and your opponent 'did something in response to it', and how fun the game (or indeed, any game) is, will depend on how many times those above two things occur. If your opponent takes first turn and FTKs you, you did nothing, and your opponent did nothing in response to what you did, so it's not fun. The difference is between 'literally having no plays' and 'not having a hope of winning'. I'd get my arse handed to me in a game of chess against a grandmaster, but I could could still take a few or their pieces, last a few turns. If nothing else, I get to make a minimum of two turns beacuse that's the quickest you can lose chess. If I'm not dumb enough to lose to a 5 move checkmate, i'll have done 6 things, which is more things than being the turn 1 player and using your whole hand. TCGs have the possibility of letting players do all of the crazy things you've seen on niche videos, but players getting curb-stopmed stops that possibility from being realised.

On the point about erotic mats, field centres, etc. I do agree about the point on moderation and "time and place" escpecially if you're using them at the local level where there are likely to be younger, more impressionable players, some of which attend with their parents who wouldn't want them to see such imagery.

I run Aliens and expect to lose most of the time. I think anyone can play what they want but need to be realistic in their expectations. I play Aliens because I like how they work. When they go off, it's fun. Wjenthey don't I get the challenge of seeing if I can improve them to make them beat decks that you wouldn't expect them to come close to. Sure I end up on the bottom tables and end up playing casual a lot. But I don't mind.

I play FTK out of spite, my friends play semi competitively and it pisses me off. So now everytime i win diceroll they have to watch me for 25 minutes to complete my combo just to say "Alright thats the FTK you wanna scoop ?", at least the first game i get to play, after that i get sided into oblivion but hey at least i get to win a game :)

What would you say to a three summon per turn rule. Each turn you can perform one normal and two special but the number of monsters per summon isn’t restricted. You could forgo your normal and get three specials if you wanted. You could normal trigger an effect that special summons two monsters and then xyz’s. You summoned four monsters but you only used three special summons. If you use soul charge, or pendulum summon they count as one summon each since the effect or skill?? Even if a summon of multiple monsters comes from a single action it’s only one action. Also cards like double summon or say they allow an additional tribute or normal summon/set would be excluded from the three count because their effects are already meant to stretch the original confines of the normal summon rule from the start but it would stop the twenty minute summon trains just to end with three monsters and a face down or two

8:55 I actually think towards the mid/end of Master Rule 4 was some of Konami's best work with Yugioh. There was consistent legacy support that was fun, the format/meta was very well-paced and had good variety, there were great reprint sets. Master Rule 5 absolutely wrecked the careful balance of the game that was built during MR4.

I totally agree. People just don't give konami credit even if they deserve it anymore. I think it wasn't just MR 5 that made the game less fun though, but also the release of degenerate cards like Linkross and Halqifibrax, as well as the huge powercreep of adamancipators or eldlich, which completely took over a really fun meta with not much competition.

My response to these takes BS combos are the entire reason I play yugioh Konami listens; but they don't always act on it. if they didn't, yugioh would actually die. i'd rather have an evenly matched reprint than another Rikka level archetype just because a deck is good does not mean that it doesn't take skill. Pendulums were more poorly designed than links. links are nice for decks that cant make synchros or XYZ, but have a tendency to break the game. missing the timing shouldn't exist, either reprint all the cards with ifs or change the rules PSCT is already functional. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I understand that poeple have tastes, but there is a time and a place. anime sleeves are ok Playing casual decks shouldn't play meta, but playing casual decks against each other is fun. sometimes name changes are better sometimes they suck. Nicknames are fine if it is understandable if it simplifies long names. Danger!? Tsuchinoko for example. people complain way too much about decks being stronger than theirs. if you don't like playing against meta decks that's fine. You can't just say "I lost because you play meta" if their archetype is stronger than yours. Crystron Halqifibrax. Enough said. as with my first point i'd love that. I just worry that people take these combos as gospel and base their deck building around it. Treasure panda link end boards are really cool, but you shouldn't try playing it in competitive events.0

I think Ecchi Mats and sleeves are fine, I do agree the straight hentai mats should stay at home. But TBH i dont see many people having inappropriate mats and i also feel if you have a problem with an Ecchi mat It's more a personal problem then with the person with the mate

Personally I think that if the ocg banlist comes and we get engage back it has to be to one, any card that was broken in the past if it comes back, it has to be at 1 only, also that any deck can be good if it has appropriate support

Let me have a go then: Meta staple cards shouldnt absolutely always be Secret Rare / 60$, but important Archetype cards and Bossmonsters should. Expensive staple cards stop budget players from competing on the same level as normal ones even with the same deck, while limiting access to Archetype cards would just limit access to some Archetypes but still enable budget players to at least have the same groundwork without spending 150$ for 10 cards. Nearly every good hand trap has been Secret Rare.

I think part of the reason some players use lewd art on their mats is to gain a psychological advantage on their opponent; break their concentration and induce a misplay with some well-placed boobage. I really liked the idea of showing off combos at a YCS, I think that would be an amazing way to support yugitubers and show the more interesting things you can do with this card game. It would also allow players to think of cards in a different way, which excited me very much. I really hope konami looks at this video so that it could be a thing. :)

The problem to write the TCG cards the same way of OCG cards is that the OCG languages have smaller phrase size, it's even because of that some speedruns are done in those languages. So the numbers would help, but maybe the text would need to be smaller to fit, so kinda not helping as much.

I do agree that people who play FTK decks do hate fun. Honestly, with the mats, it's your mat and you spent your own money on it you should be allowed to have whatever the heck you want on it don't censor what people want to have. Children play the game? Oh well, I don't care it's not my problem, someone could have a mat of dark magician riding blue eyes (if ya catch my drift) and that's their choice to have it. As a full grown adult you should be able to just ignore it and not make even a small deal out of it. The guy in the beanie had horrible opinions, don't let people express themselves with their mats, sleeves, deckboxes, he also pretty much said he hates people playing the game casually

Establishing a banned/restricted list in your casual play group is huge. Keeping oppressive and format warping cards and mechanics at bay can seriously foster creativity and can allow you to play something you enjoy even though you know for a fact isn't very good.
