Hey everyone!
So moving on with the Unimog 421 "Restoration"
I ended up spending a good bit of time, going over the whole air system.
But there were a few more things that also got done.
If you want to follow this build from the start, Here is a link to the First video:
• Unimog Barn-Find. part...
I have also made a playlist, for the whole build. you can find that here:
• Unimog Barn-Find. part...

I remember from working on SEE Trac (Unimog) US ARMY had small 12 v batteries in series as all was 24 v per US Army spec. It was definitely a different bird.

Hello Sir. I am only past halfway through the video, but I have learnt much more about truck's air systems in a few minutes than in a few years. Your explanations are very simple and clear. So thank you very much to have spent the time and effort to show us all of this. Cheers.

What is the 'rust proofing'? Looks like a tar based product, correct? In the late 1980s I had two NATO surplus 404mogs. It had a compressor but I recall the differential locks being mechanical. They were petrol engines but so poorly maintained the cam oilers were stopped up with sludge. I've never seen cam wear that bad before or since. Sold them when I moved to the east coast of USA. 30 years later I'm back in New Mexico wishing I have one or two...... Lots of fun but sometimes they were to large for the trails.
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road Жыл бұрын
It is. actually. It is just some basic "Undercoat" and i'm using a thick variant, so it will stay in these closed spots, for a long time. Actually, i have yet to own a 404, so i'm not entirely sure what diff-locks were on those. but i do know, some of the early 'mogs had hydraulically actuated lockers. Hopefully i will get to play around with a 404 some day. :) Thanks for watching along!

Thank you for your awesome content!, I am doing many repairs to my 416 based in your videos, now I need to change the overflow valve which supply air for the air lockers, can you share your link to which one is it?, I see you have a new one, tks!!!
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road 6 ай бұрын
Thanks a lot! I don't have a dierect link for the valve, as i didn't buy it at any unimog-specific shop. But they are a pretty standard part, used on many different trucks/busses. simplest thing is to just check the little data-plate that should be on the valve, and just google the number, and you should be able to find them near you.

Where did you get the pipe for the airsystem? Good vid btw
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road 5 ай бұрын
I don't remember excately where i got the plastic lines. it's somthing i have had in stock for a while. but it can be found at most truck/auto parts stores. And for the metal lines, i have re-used the origial ones. but they are just standard 15mm. steel pipe.

couldent you just use normal battery? those bats looks weird to me, they seem to be a specific batm not just a regular bat 🤔
@KJOff-Road
@KJOff-Road Жыл бұрын
I sure could. and i often do. But they would still be too big for this box. so it wouldn't change much, for this example. But i like these AGM's for off-road use. Mainly because there is no liquid acid in them. so they can be at any angle, without spilling anything. And should you somehow crush them, you won't have acid spill everywhere. And also, the Optima batteries are just good at sustaining high output. Making them good for somthing like electric winches :)
