We have levelers like that on semi's. Almost all semi tractors have air ride on the drive axles and when you put an extra 20,000lbs on them, they tend to drop a bit. Give it a few seconds and you're right back at level. I wouldn't be surprised if these are actually very similar to those same sensors (most are actually just valves though)

Just a quick note 7:30 to 8:00 I would add a second O ring on the top under the spacer to help keep the bag sealed as I have found they leak after a few months of use. Also, I have used that same brand air springs they are good quality items the set on my daily has done over 30,000 miles and still good. I have just noticed that you have not fitted a bearing block which means when you turn left / right the seal that is fitted on to the shock shaft will wear against the inside top of the airbag and it will leak after a few weeks/months of driving.

I use the same Airmex bags on my Caddy and Sonoma. They Sonoma is manual but the Caddy uses the Airlift 3H on BC coilovers. Never had any issues after years. They only issue with the Airmex bags is that the shipping is quite expensive and is a bit slow. I ordered an extra set of bags just in case one fails. Still no issues though 5 of 5, would recommend.

FYI that's called a leveling valve, not a height valve. They are standard on semi trucks and trailers to maintain ride height under different loads. Which requires different pressures in the airbags.

If you're thinking about air springs in relation to handling performance: A conventional straight-rate coil spring compresses one inch for each additional increment of its weight rating. So, a 100lb/in spring compresses one additional inch for each additional 100lbs placed on it. There are, of course progressive-rate coil springs, as well. The air spring's resistance increases exponentially with compression, so each additional 100lbs results in less compression distance than the previous 100lbs. The difference between lowest and highest spring rate is down to the loaded versus unloaded volume of the air spring. The smaller the change in volume, the less progressive the rate. Space restrictions limit what you can do with that in a car. Air springs also have substantial friction during their motion, so they are less responsive to bumps and other loads. In the late 70s, Fox and others in the dirt bike / motocross world introduced air suspension components, but that fell out of favor very quickly. I'm out of touch with bikes now, but I'm pretty sure the only surviving element is low air pressure supplementing steel springs for tuning purposes. I personally believe the exponential rate-progression of pure air springs makes good overall suspension tuning nearly impossible. Progressive springs generally produce a bouncy, pogo-stick effect. The more progressive, the worse that problem becomes.

The "shitty" handling (which is actually quite good with height control) with airride is because you have variable spring rate, changing along with the load on the strut. More load equals more pressure to keep height the same, equals stiffer spring. The problem is that for a different spring rate, you need different valving for dampening. Dampening and spring rate are in balance with each other on a good handling car. This is the reason that for example the Audi A8/S8/Q7 handle SO extremely well for what they are (large air ride barges) - their dampening is continuously adjusted along with the pressure in the (height based) struts. Ideally for ease of install, you want to run a coilover with a 'cup' on top (filled with air or hydraulic fluid) to have height adjustability. With air you'd have 2 good handling settings, fully dropped and fully extended (with as much pressure as the system can hold so it becomes as solid as possible). With hydraulics you can put it in any position you want. Oh but and then there's the issue with change in wheel geometry -> adjust height, adjust all sorts of settings. But at least you have 1 setting with optimal handling.

Super cool vid! I have done the same conversion with AirMext bags on my Blitz coilovers and running the bags with a 3p. Initially I ran sleeve style rear and bellow style front but unfortunately the sleeve style ones are never on the correct ride height at any given pressure, depending on if they were inflated more or less before reaching the desired pressure. Even if you run height sensors they will always end up with different pressures which is why I went full bellow style all round. I highly recommend going with the slim double bellow style if anyone is trying this. (SN120180BL2) The sleeve style ones also have quite some resistance when airing out completely, if you stand on the boot you can literally push em down a bit further!
