I was fortunate enough to work on the crew of Key & Peele for a number of days, and I was thrown in as an extra in the turbulence scene that they talk about at the beginning of this clip. It was so much fun to do, and it's great to find this old clip where they talk about that particular scene and how great a job we did. Thanks guys!

@@prokdaveuhh there is rehearsal on skits and monologues but not on interviews. Every now and then the interviewee will ask the host to participate in a sketch or vice versa the host will ask the interviewee. But besides that , it's not rehearsed. on the other hand I can see key and Peele personally rehearsing before the show but I doubt Conan is in on it. It's hard enough booking interviews and getting them to come on let alone having every single one of them rehearse a interview . Typically the interviewee stays in the dressing room until he is called up. The staff typically tries to get the guest liquored up before coming out but that's about it

I doubt it was this particular guy that inspired it. I work as an actor in LA and do a lot of extra/background work, and pretty much every single shoot there's one guy (and it's pretty much always a guy) who thinks that this is their big break and tries to do something outlandish in order to get noticed; and being noticed is literally the exact opposite thing that directors want from background. I've seen people fired from shoots for trying to pull that stunt, so this dude's lucky that the most he got was an amusing anecdote on Conan.

The more you just try to blend stay quiet the more the AD might actually put you in a scene. I was put in as the extra in the cast for Its "All Relative" as one of the members of the working class in the bar. I also was put right by the craps table for the show Vegas. Its all about blending into the scene. The ones who get onto the shows with speaking roles get an agent and go to auditions. If your in the background than most people usually stay there as no one will take notice of you so its best to just follow what the AD says and not act out of place in the scene. Some extras try moving toward the camera or acting out in the scene. Great example of an overacting extra is in Almost Famous during the graduation scene.

@Jacknorrington
@Jacknorrington Жыл бұрын
@@barryschwarz well the talk show is rehearsed, they practice it a couple times beforehand, Conan and Jimmy Fallon have admitted that they do that so they can ensure they get all the clips, mention all the right stories, and not offend people. There are a few times when it doesn't go as planned, and people like Norm Macdonald were famous for purposely going off script just to make the hosts laugh, but for the most part it's already rehearsed and planned and acted out
@barryschwarz
@barryschwarz Жыл бұрын
@@Jacknorrington It's like no one met people who are like these two, expressive, playful. but this is normal behaviour for many people, and especially those in the entertainment business. Yes, they mark through the shows. It's not rehearsed for every gesture. And yes, the show is entertainment, so the host leads with questions designed to bring out the most entertaining responses, almost always decided beforehand. But this isn't acting. They are being themselves, just as many ordinary folk get amped up at parties, shout, dance, and wave their hands, act out stuff for friends that they find funny. Telling stories is the most normal thing we all do, whether it's describing your work day or the potential reasons for someone else's break-up. I get annoyed at people quickly saying that people are being phoney when they're just being expressive.

Well that wasn’t scripted at all. Thank God. It’s so weird when a live interview doesn’t seem natural and off the cuff. But this one, this one, seemed totally unscripted and natural. That’s so so fun.
