I think it is sufficient that you are european, since a majority of all roadsigns are the same. Honestly, it is kind of weird that the signs aren't unified all over the world. There are few things in common between US and european road signs. Then again, i've driven all over the US and never had any problems (as a swede) with understanding the signs. Yet again, lots of signs in the US are made like even retards can understand them. I remember the numerous signs in the subway of NYC. Don't do this and don't do that (i mean idiotic signs that tell you to not step out when the train is moving etc.). Not to mention various warning signs on different things, i remember when i bought a HUGE inflatable octopus for my kids. When i read the warning label on it, it said "Warning, this is not a life saving device"...10 years later i am still laughing about it...seeing Mitch Buchannon running on the beach with a huge inflatable octopus under his arm...

Yeah it's funny how that is. I don't know if you watch/watched Top Gear, but I always liked the segments where they go out and do stuff, rather than just sitting in the studio talking about cars. Although I'm not a car guy, so obviously I'm going to enjoy watching them build ridiculous contraptions, watching their antics in foreign countries. You know, the visual and hands on sorta stuff. But I've always been more visual/hands on when it comes to learning, so I guess it makes sense that I'd enjoy something like that. Whereas a studio segment seems more suited for somebody who more enjoys sitting and listening to something, or who might learn better from a lecture, to go back to analogy with learning. Which I enjoy as well, but it's gotta be the right subject if it's an especially dry lecture or talking segment.

In Berlin there are these Trabant tours, you get to drive the car in a procession with a tour guide telling you about the city via the radio. Costs about $50 and lasts maybe 45 minutes. Great fun. I thought it was because we were driving an old car, but apparently, that's just the way it is.

Nope, the Trabant was not the only car to get in East Germany. You could also drive the locally assembled Wartburg. You could also obtain a Skoda, Lada, Moskvich, Zaporozhets and other cars made in the Eastern Block. Even western cars were there - although in limited numbers. The first car my father owned was a Beetle from the early 50's. A friend of our family who was originally from Hungary and had a sister that lived in Canada owned a Mazda 323. There was also a friend of mine in school whose parents had a Golf Mark I. But the last two examples where rare ones.

I drove the E-Force electric converted version on a Trabi Safari in Berlin recently. No need to mess around with that quirky manual clutch gear system. Just forward and backwards, whilst you focus on the driving. The other quirks of the car itself (like going up to 60 km/h if you slam the accelerator to the floor) are fine enough to get a near authentic experience. Oh and BTW, you could get more car varieties in East Germany (especially by the late 1980's), The DDR also produced the Wartburg, what would be considered as a more luxury car (for those who could afford it) or East Germans had a choice with imported cars from nearby socialist countries. There were few Western cars available too and the high end officials always loved Volvos.

That was actually one of the last, nicest Trabants. The early ones are much more primitive,noisy and smokey.

@Kamamura23 жыл бұрын
That was not even true, Trabant was not the only German car, there was also Wartburg, and you could have imported Czech Skoda cars that were not that bad. Trabant was unique because the body was from plastic and the engine operated in 2 phases (as opposed to 4 in case of most car engines). The engine oil was mixed with the fuel, so the exhaust produced dense, suffocating, dark smoke.

Imported Lada from Russia was even more common than Skoda, like an Eastern Mercedes

Sean Seaphan That is most Germans. No exaggeration. Most are fit, not big muscled or fat like Americans. Rather the majority are naturally healthy.

Tyler Ramsey There is always someone like you lurking on youtube. Waiting and ready to pounce with flawed foundational logic. Did I use math once in any of my statements!? NO :D Did I say most Americans are fat NO :D I said and implicated that the diversity among German citizens in regards to the ratio of healthy vs unhealthy (big muscles vs fat) compared to the U.S. have more of a balance rather than leaning to one side or the other.... #Truth Idiot... If you're going to take your bad day out on someone, atleast make sure you can win :D

lol i pull in my fair share of internet arguments, but i swear this was as innocuous a comment as i could make. to be fair, i appreciate the value of exercising critical thinking and challenging the reasoning of others, "as iron sharpens iron." but usually when i'm doing that, i reference the source material obsessively to compose my argument. reading comprehension is a fundamental and powerful tool. the funny thing about truth is that one may offer the sincerity of their perception or experience or s/he may state an objective fact and either would qualify as "truth." language is slippery that way. i don't generally take someone's challenge as to mean they're having a "bad day" or spreading misery, though. it's an underhanded signal of respect. perhaps he sees some morsel of intelligence in you and should like to test you or perhaps win some semblance of an accord with a formidable adversary. of course, one may be short or cordial as to going about setting such a challenge, either of which is then personal taste with varying levels of success lol good day to the lot of you haha
