To me, soul food has the spirit and tradition of southern black people. Yes, similar ingredients and flavors to just “southern” food, but not the heart. Recipes curated over time by slaves, poor black people with a lack of resources learning to use what they had around them, and turning it into something amazing to feed their families. Passed down through generations. I swear you can taste that love and history in soul food.

I live in nyc, and the difference between soul food and southern cooking is the flavor. Nyc soul food is terrible. But if you go down south, it's amazing. They can't cook soul food up here.
