But also, Gorley is the bridge between Conan and Sona. Cause he’s got the history and old timey knowledge that lets him pick up on a lot of Conan’s references. He also has some comedy and improve background, and the wealth of podcast experience. But he also is backup for Sona and has more pop culture knowledge. The three together are just fantastic. I love the intros and outtros just as much as the interviews. Summer s’mores, for example, is something I look forward to every year now. And I really hope the next one is at Conan’s house.

Man, me too. But it's also the entire team they built over the years. It's also Bley, Eduardo, Adam, David - all the staffers and writers who are dropping in every once in a while. Love this podcast - and it's nice to watch that whole thing grow and bring joy and laughter to some many people. And then I have to say: That spin off with Ted Danson - also a very great addition. Ted is a superb interviewer🧡

This is the reason I love this podcast. What started as just Conan, his assistant and a producer doing a podcast around celebrity interviews has turned into one of my favourite ever comedy trios. I love the interviews, but it’s the three of them together I tune in for.

I've been listening to Matt on podcasts for over a decade. He was the PERFECT choice. They often briefly mention that he has some experience with podcasting, but don't go into great detail. He is hilarious. Is amazing at improv and doing characters and is the perfect foil for Conan.

Really neat insights here. As a listener early on I remember being surprised how much Gourley was in the mix, but also really enjoyed it. Then coming back to the podcast over the last few months - seeing how integrated Gourley is has been great to see. Really fun dynamic between everyone on the show.

I won't be grieving too much if the celebrity interviews stop, but if the three chums stop doing these segments, I will be in tears.
@pinverarity3 күн бұрын
Conan has always been bad at interviewing. He only has two modes: cringe-inducing obsequiousness or flailing bit-forcing. Every so often he lucks out and gets somebody who can fall into a bit, but more than half the time it’s just hyperbolic flattery with no natural end. It’s always better when it’s just him and the Chums.

This is the proof that Conan is a comedic genius. He brings out the funny in everyone he surrounds himself with. You can tell by watching the podcast vids that Conan, Sona, and Matt know they have something special - they can feel it deep inside, and the viewers also see/feel that special thing. Keep up the great work team! Also, great work to all the people behind the scenes that also are needed to show us this special thing.

Yeah he is one of the true O.G.s and he has a lot of experience in front of the mic. Some really awesome podcasts people should check out. But he also has done a lot of editing of podcasts that he wasn't a host for, so I can see why Gourley (and Conan) thought he was just being hired to do editing, and help produce the show to show Conan how's it done since Conan was green at podcasts.

Kind of what I was thinking. Less a deliberate attempt to follow a “template” and more of a natural result of what happens when you say, “let’s give an extremely talented late-night talk show host broad creative control over his own podcast.” Conan just has a knack for creating funny, entertaining conversations.

I think the first season was such a pure example of this; Conan used to savagely rip into Matt for being nerdy and into Sona for being Sona and it was endlessly entertaining. Sona would usually play both sides but then jump to Matt’s defense when Conan really started going after him; episodes with just Conan and Matt just felt like an unfair fight and something was definitely missing. I still love the podcast but those moments were absolute gold and I still go back and rewatch the first season every so often.

I've always been aware of the "Morning Zoo" layout for the show, but, like they share here, they don't stick to their lanes or hierarchy, mostly because Conan is secure and Sona knows she will not be fired for having an opinion. And Matt is, well, Matt. Quietly waiting to capsize the whole ship. Morning Zoo's tend to be more guy-centric and "Locker Room" (insert fart joke here). Also, no "Time, Traffic, Weather and School Closings"
