I know I can't be the only one who is yelling at the screen GET THE TORCH. Seriously, guys, a very small, highly concentrated heat source on the outer part of the offending "ain't coming apart" couple of parts has done the trick for me innumerable times in the past. Having said that, I am unaware of any rubber/plastic parts that may be too close to allow the good old "thermal expansion" method, and if that's the case then I apologize for speaking out of turn. The INTRO!! Guys, the intro that is used on this channel is certifiable, 100% GOLD. You guys really should copyright it. "Andy's Aggressive Attention Getting Intro" would be my newest ringtone, to be honest. As a combat veteran, I can't even put into words the massive amount of gratitude and appreciation I have for you guys and all you do for the veteran community. It really means way more to veterans than most of us would ever admit. So, Thank You Very Much. My ignorance as well, of all the nuances that keep from using heat to help release the flywheel should be explained. I work mostly on industrial machines and in my spare time I enjoy wrenching on automotive and marine stuff. Different procedures and processes that mechanics use is a great learning tool. Great video!

Great tear down. I would recommend getting an air chisel with a flat head and give it to that fly wheel puller nut. The fast aggressive vibration usually will break them free without damage because of the short fast burst. Try it you will never go back to Brute force or Big Hammers

Interesting on the the opti, I ran 05’ twin 225’s for 6 years. They had not been maintained very well and made me invent new curse words! Finally replaced with 2 300 Suzukis this summer!

Love the mechanical videos just to see how stuff works. As an electrical motor mechanic we typically have to use an oxygen and polypropylene torch for pulleys and couplers to let them free up easier. I don’t know if that is a possibility on that fly wheel?

Not a pro mechanic here. But I’ve always had luck with sticky flywheels by tightening up the flywheel removal tool like you did, and then giving the flywheel “one” hard hit with a rubber mallet toward the outer edge. Worked like a charm every time for me.

Apply some gentle heat to the aluminum flywheel while you have the removal tool Applying pressure and it will pop. Only use propane don't use oxy

I’d like to see a tear down and rebuild of a 2.5 Liter EFI or Carb motor. It’s interesting that a lot of shops won’t touch an Optimax near me but they rebuild 2.5 liter motors left and right They are like the SBC of outboards

My thinking was if I couldn’t get it with that breaker bar my impact wouldn’t get it done either

I take quite a few outboards apart. I think the impact hammering helps with jarring the flywheel loose. If it gets too tight with the impact, a couple shots to the flywheel puller with a hammer will pop it loose. I typically leave the nut on the end of the crank, but loose, to prevent flying flywheels. Best of luck!
