Pulling the ABS fuse on most Subarus (since 2010ish) will put the whole system into "limp home mode" and limit revs to 4,000. Not ideal for "fun" driving. However, some have a fuse (often unlabeled) that can be pulled to disable all ABS-pump based systems (ABS, VDC, TCS, E-diff, hill-hold) but without putting it in limp home. Open (ie: pull the fuse) that circuit (seems it is only energized when the brake pedal is pressed, that may help to find it), start the engine, hold the brake for a second or two, and the alert lights for all those systems will turn on. Go have [safe] fun! On my '14 Impreza I put a switch and fuse holder (plus fuse) in series in place of my original fuse and stuck the switch through the fuse door. It works great!

On 4th gen Imprezas there is a vertical stack of fuses to the right of the main under-dash block. Bottom-most 7.5 amp (and supposedly always initially installed upside down, mine was) fuse is the one. Not sure where it would be on other models. My friend's 3rd gen doesn't have the stack even visible from the fuse door

I imagine you could keep the fuse in and just pull the ABS sensors out of the wheels. Might be an alternative way to fix it. Or unplug the yaw sensor. See what works.
@just6979
@just6979 5 жыл бұрын
If the system can't read the ABS sensors, it'll go into safe mode, that's the whole point. And the yaw sensor (if even a discrete item on the non WRX/STI models) is not as easily accessible as this fuse, if a given vehicle model has it.

Pro tip, pull the ABS pump fuse and not the one for the module itself. Virtually every modern car does the front/rear proportioning electronically through the module, so you’ll get worse stopping distance with the whole thing off.

90s cars have some of this safety driving stuff, 80s cars does not have abs, traction controller or any other shit that modern cars have in those days, to disable the abs in newer cars you need to do something else, and to be able to left foot braking you need to buy a ECU because everything is in one wire and it is annoying to be honest, im looking to buy a 240sx again or an 80s car with RWD

Something I'd be really interested in seeing (and what I was looking for when I found this video) is a test of ESC versus expert drivers in an obstacle avoidance maneuver. The test usually used to demonstrate ESC involves the driver using a pathological series of steering inputs intended to upset the car. What happens when naive inputs are used instead (always point the front wheels where you want the car to go no matter what it's doing) with and without ESC? What about a car driven by an expert doing their best to avoid the obstacle with their choice of techniques? Which combination results in success at the highest entry speed? I've only been able to find tests with pathological inputs meant to show what the system does. I saw your channel has a video demonstrating reduced braking performance with ABS, and while this is more in-depth, I think it would make for a fascinating topic.

My research indicates Jimmy's are notorious for the security system preventing starts. Engine turns over but no start. Their also notorious for bad ignition harness. If I disconnect the ign. harness will that kill the security system and will it require new wires ran for a push button ignition. I'm assuming you still need the key to unlock steering wheel. How the ABS in my 1996 Chrysler Neon stopped working: I did a bit of drifting in the snow and pulled the hanbrake, while still a little on the footbrake. This made the rear wheels stop, while the ABS tried to avoid exactly that at the same time. This made the ABS think, that it is malfunctioning and turned itself off. After engine restart everything was normal again. Maybe the same thing might happen with other cars too ......

So my friend who is going to school for automotive mechanics told me that ABS also increases your vacuum booster at full throttle, which means that it gives you better braking ability. Does this mean that disabling ABS would make the car brake worse aside from allowing skids.
