In this video I'll show you how to use an Oculus Quest 2 VR headset and an app called Immersed to attend your Microsoft Teams Meetings using an avatar in a virtual environment.

I just finished trying out vSpatial and Immersed as a potential place for me to work in within the metaverse/vr. After several hours of trying out both environments, John, I completely agree with you. I found Immersed to be an excellent tool such that I can carry my laptop to a quiet place, put on my Oculus Quest 2, and work immersed with multiple monitors. I have just placed the order for the headset and face plates as per your recommendation. Also, I'll be trying out Teams shortly, since this is my lifeline at work. The most interesting aspect for me is the working inside the headset with the additional screens. I can image be scenarios where you are hotdesking and not have to have more than just a headset and a laptop. At the moment headsets are still too big and bulky and as you said putting them on long term can be painful. I use mine for maximum 1hr 30 mins. Which is a shame as even things like using like Netflix get uncomfortable. Have you tried the Miro app on quest yet? I haven't made time to try it yet. Interesting to see how that virtual whiteboard works.

Thanks for watching Phil! I agree the form factor of the headset is currently the biggest barrier for me working all day. The halo strap helped a lot though and increased my comfort time from maybe an hour to about half the day with a very welcome break for lunch. I tried Miro a little bit and wasn’t very impressed to be honest. It works best for me using the pre-built elements and not much for drawing. The best drawing experience I’ve had is in horizon workrooms. The way they use the bottom of the controller as the marker tip and you can draw on your desktop while it shows on the big whiteboard is a great experience. I hope that method becomes the standard for all whiteboard apps.

Yea I’m hopeful that the upcoming Cambria headset will provide better resolution but color passthrough is the thing I’m most excited about. I personally don’t have issues with the resolution of the Quest 2 and the virtual monitors. It’s not quite 1:1 that resolution matters in this environment. The virtual monitor resolution is more about how much you can fit on your virtual screen. You can pull the screens in closer or further away to make the details large enough to see well. I personally stick to two monitors, I’m not sure how people could see things on 4-5. :) Thanks for watching!

Thanks for watching! I haven’t tried any headphones that clip onto the headset but I have Microsoft Surface Headphones 2+ and Apple AirPods Pro that I’ve used with my quest 2 and like them both a lot. Hope that helps!

@@Joey-tj3uo I pair my headsets with the laptop and haven't had any problems with latency using Immersed for working. I have tried pairing them to Oculus before and playing games/watching videos and the latency was pretty bad though.

I find that I don’t get motion sickness very much in Immersed because I’m sitting still. The way I reduce motion sickness when playing games where I stand up or move around, I find that having air blowing on me with a fan helps the most. Drinking plenty of water also helps and definitely take a break when you start to not feel well. Trying to push through often makes things worse from what I’ve heard. @@CollabMoore AR does not give me motion sickness though VR--and even watching your video, which includes all that movement--does. Drinking a lot of water and a breeze blowing on me do not help at all. In your video, you mentioned motion sickness and how you had come up with some tips you use so that you now spend an entire day in metaverse meetings and still feel comfortable. I was curious if you had any specifically for motion sickness from VR. Any VR gives, and has always given, me motion sickness, even if I am completely stationary. I enjoy AR. As a result, however, I do not enjoy and have never enjoyed VR. I actually could not get through some parts of your video due to the motion sickness it gave me. Is this an official Microsoft channel, and are you a Microsoft programmer? Thanks.

In my attempts using a Rift + Virtual desktop I was not convinced that using a VR headset is productive for work. Can you elaborate on any benefits this has over a nice multimonitor setup in an already distraction free environment? The added friction working on a lower res virtual screen and dealing with the comfort of the headset are a big downside compared to just working at a normal desk.

For me the benefit was when on the go with nothing but a 13” laptop. At home I still use my 34” ultrawide and prefer that most of the time. My quest+MacBook Air is a great lightweight combo for “hotel desking” in an empty office floor with no monitors around. Hope that helps! 👍

You would just share your screen in the meeting window as normal. You can’t share all of your screens along with your avatar unless you tried something like casting via oculus to a browser and share that browser in the meeting. I doubt others would be able to see what’s going on very well though.

Is there a way to get the avatar to lip sync when you’re talking?

It kind of fakes it based on the microphone picking up that you’re speaking. That’s all the Quest 2 is capable of unfortunately. The upcoming Meta Cambria headset is rumored to include cameras that will be able to track your lips moving and facial expressions to provide a lot more accurate recreation of your face as an avatar. Fingers crossed!

Yes you get all your physical monitors and one virtual monitor for free. If you want more virtual ones then you’ll upgrade to the premium subscription. If you get value out of the service Immersed provides, I would recommend supporting them in this way. One workaround is you can get some inexpensive HDMI dummy plugs from Amazon. That will make your OS see more “physical monitors” and you’ll get those in immersed so you can arrange them however you want. I bought a three pack on Amazon for $11. I hope that helps!
