Jamie, Happy Easter as well. You are showing me the things I didn't have the "bollocks" to do during my resto. Thanks much. I would ditch that 4 bladed fan and replace with a yellow 7 bladed MGA fan. It will run a bit cooler and be safer. Losing a fan blade on the rod isn't fun, trust me! Also a perfect time to ditch that oil filter and replace with a modern spin on type available from a variety of sources. And while at it slap a blower on and make it go fast! (If you can find a new blower. I gave up looking.)

When I first started this restoration I find;t think I could really do it, but time, patience and asking a lot of questions have helped to get me to this stage. I think the hard work is now done and the fun stuff is just starting, although I did enjoy painting the colour. Never doubt yourself and just give it a go, the worst thing that could happen is somebody has to fix your mistakes. If I change the fan to the MGA version would I need to change the hub on the water pump first? I have a new oil filter adapter already waiting to be fitted once the engine is back together.

@@MGREBUILD I was able to fit the MGA fan with no problem even with the engine in the car and assembled! It was a bit tricky but would be easy with engine out. There are some spacers involved as I remember but it wasn't a deal breaker. For the price of the fan it's worth trying!

I think I will see how things go with the original fan first.

@@MGREBUILD They will go fine until the blades fall apart at speed!! Then it will be a real PIA to change!

Hi Jamie, Happy Easter! Engine is looking great so far. It looks like you have the finned sump on yours which aids cooling so what and increased oil capacity too. Another great video! Glad the weather held for you to get the paint work done. Really looking good!

Thankfully I have finally finished the painting. Although I still do have the fuel tank and rear splash apron to paint later this year. I will be sealing the tank first before I do the bodywork on it. I am planning on building a frame to allow me to rotate the tank whilst I am coating the inside of the tank just to make it a little easier..

Be careful if you're replacing the oil pump gears, the manual doesn't tell you what you need to know. Basically, after removing the circlip, you GENTLY drive the shaft out only about a 1/4 inch. Then turn it over and using a wooden block (or drift) drive the cam gear back. This creates a 1/4 inch space between the gear and the housing. Slip a nut or other non compressible shim between the gear and the case, turn back over and drive the shaft out another 1/4 inch. Then repeat driving from the cam gear side to make 1/2 inch gap between the gear an case. Put a 1/2 inch shim (but on it side, larger nut, whatever), then turn over and repeat. Hopefully you won't have to drive it the whole way but this will keep the key from impacting the case... I learned this from a master MG mechanic.

Other than giving the pump a clean I won't be touching it.

Glad to see you decided to pull it all down👍🏼. Finned aluminium tappet & side covers??🙏 Fingers crossed for the remainder being in good condition 🤞🏼 Happy Easter to you & yours🐣 Stay safe😷

I'm glad pulled it down too as I found something in one of the big ends that concerned me a little, it had some "Crap" that was potentially blocking the oil gallery. Also, I found a damaged cam bearing as well that I will need to replace. I hope you and your family are keeping safe as well. My town has now been put into lockdown as we have had an outbreak of cases in both of our hospitals, so that may slow down my progress with the MG. Thankfully both Karen and I are still working so we haven't been hurt financially.

Oooh, nice chrome accents :-)
@MGREBUILD4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the chrome won't be fitted back on the engine. I have something better that you will see in a future video.
