Dear Peter Robinson, I am from Germany, I was born after President Reagan held that speech and I have tears in my eyes every time I see it. On this occasion, I would like to thank you for righting this speech. I sincerely believe that the world we live in today would not be a better place without it. Thank you very much and thank the Hoover Institution for its great work.

I’ve heard Peter tell this story before and I have NEVER forgotten it. It’s had such a profound impact on my knowledge & understanding. I retell this story of Peter Robinson’s all the time. It’s SO important people understand this history.

I visited Warsaw in 2014. They have a bust of Reagan in a public place. The people I work with there found him inspiring and many believe would not have had the opportunity they’ve had without this conviction

A way to instill confidence in people is to demand responsibility from them. Too many Americans decline to be responsible for anything. Even worse too many Americans expect too little responsibility from their fellow Americans. As Jordan Peterson reminds us, for those who have no other purpose in life, responsibility gives you a purpose whether you want one or not.

Amazing how colin Powell's memo dismisses the speech as mediocre and a missed opportunity and now decades later the same description applies to colin Powell's career.

It is quite amusing to review the quotes in the prior decades where they say “but Powell had this opinion”. It used to carry a lot of weight, not so much anymore

No, President Reagan threw the ball right down the middle of the plate, for a game ending strikeout that day, and everyone knows it, including the Jamaican.

The point of "self respect" of one's Country, is for the listener the most significant part of this presentation. Trump's "Make America Great Again", was for me, living in Italy, the right ROAD to follow. A pity that many Americans are following the Pied Piper of Communism, not realizing what leftist policies have done to so many countries. When much younger, I too, had leanings towards what I called "Ideal Socialism", only to discover all it's applied weaknesses. THANK YOU for a great presentation.

Probably the greatest one liner written since “finest hour”. Peter gets a perpetual A+ for that one line. I used it a few times per day for years. Context different. Wall different. But in the context I was in 2003-2007, it was hilarious to recall the line. And the Gipper never failed so far as I know, to deliver a great line superbly. HR, given his love of tanks, is right. The one-liner set a direction in an integrated system. The Gipper gave the direction and got out of the way. Orders from senior commanders and the defense industry executives had just a little more oomph at the time, many had just a little more spring in their step, a bit like having a great marching song. Nobody was laughing any more at John Lehman’s 600 ship Navy speech, for either reason they had been laughing.

My uncle - who served in Berlin - gave me an "Allied Staff Berlin" sweatshirt, with the US/British/French flags on it. It gives you some indication of how the world has changed that when I wear it to the gym people look annoyed. They seem to have forgotten who the good guys were.

Excellent point. Also worth noting that since the wall came down in 1989, the world has been immersed in interventionist wars and the Project for the New American Century culture. Connection?

A singular honour to have coined one of the 20th century's most eponymous and memorable lines "Mr Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" Reagan's June 12 1987 speech was right up there with Churchill's speech of August 20 1940 Congratulations for being a part of history!

If you think the wall came down because of a single speech…. read a textbook. Did it help? Perhaps. Was it the reason why the USSR and its totalitarian regime was an unmitigated failure? Unlikely

When I was in Germany at this time, all my German neighbors believed that the country would never be reunited. I argued with them about this but no one believed unification was possible. Almost all of the Germans at this time were anti Reagan and previously millions protested against us and our placement of intermediate nuclear missiles in Germany. Reagan was ridiculed as a reckless cowboy who was going to start WWIII. Reagan gave this speech, bankrupted the USSR via the Star-wars program and rolled back communism and liberated Eastern Europe at the same time.

First: Interesting - Enlightening - Inspiring appreciation for a Great man, of whom I heard an NPR host born in the 50's, describe as, "...an aging actor reciting his lines." A very sad and shameful state of mind for a man surely poisoned by Progressive political thought. Second: My Credentials - Hours of Hoover * UKN Sowell my favorite * The Good Fellas (whom I call Honorary Pisans * Other Hoover programs * Hillsdale Free Online Courses and speeches * Other great conservative venues. Third: One Comment - All good, great actually and agree with HR that we need to revive a Healthy National Pride for all the good we have done while teaching as someone else said we have had tragic incidents in our history. Rhetoric + Action as HR said - But: My question to HR and you all is what action do we immediately take to dispel the anti American sentiments now espoused by Academia * Giant Corporations with Social Platforms * An anti-American bias (to include Israel) right in our Congress and Senate * Mainstream media * Assault on the moral of our troops due to the Sec of Defense's woke policies * A White House and Cabinet with many of the ills just mentioned and seemingly thus far to be, mostly incompetent? Again, what is our battle plan to win back the realization of truth about our great republic, Not Perfect but Good * Very Good * and dispel the false narrative. I think you all should start working behind the scenes to create a comprehensive Battle Plan * Circulate it through the good Conservative venues * and unite the splintered conservative venues to put forth a powerful message of freedom and hope and love of country, America * still, "the last best hope of earth". Thanks again for another wonderful program.

Easy: The Berlin wall was to keep people in, the US Border wall was to keep people out. Those in the White House who opposed Peter's speech were seized by what Thomas Sowell calls 'The Vision of the Anointed' - it has been responsible for most of America's present ills.
