Teardown Of The Freightliner (finding out what's wrong with the engine)

i understand that freightliner is just a toy for you but i sure wouldnt do just one liner and kit...if the others are original, the likeliness they will fail soon is very high. i would wait until i was able to do a complete in frame like it needs to be rather than do a patch. it would stink if you put the one liner in and another one fails and hydro locks the engine ....could destroy the block, head, crank, piston, rod and so on. i always say, "if i cant afford or dont have the time to do it right, i cant afford or find the time to do it twice".

No truer words have ever been spoken and I can’t argue with anything you’ve said, but like you mentioned, if this was something other than a toy I wouldn’t hesitate doing the proper repairs. Plan for the truck is to restore it in the future and at the time I would like to rebuild everything on the truck and have some professional help with the rebuild of the engine, but until then I just need it to move under it’s own power. Unless you wanna make a trip to Florida and give me a hand??

Jake oring 1h1023 is old # 7c0031 new # , check lower bore epoxy to fill in rust grooves or holes 143 9508. On freightliner make sure radiator tanks, alternator, batteries, starter all have good frame grounds. Is a cool project looking forward to seeing it run

Dont forget to check counter bore height. If it doesn't clamp tight you will blow that new head gasket quick.

Wix filters makes a additive that go in the cooling system to combat cavitation. Allen J Harrell

It's not cavitation it is called osmosis. There is an additive for that plus a water filter has it in it also. How many miles on truck?

Odometer says 800k but don’t know if that is with the reman engine or not

Recommend new head bolts. You should just finish the in-frame while it is apart.

Damage on the bearings is from the antifreeze it eats them ( figuratively speaking)...your 5 liner kits and a valve job away from an in frame....🙄🤷‍♂️

Just replace all the jugs,rings,and bearings,fuel pump,water pump,complete gasket kit and injectors, hoses,belts. And it'll be all right

This is called liner pitting. Its caused by the sca's in the coolant being too high. Hate to tell you but all the other liners are pitted too. Whomever had this truck didn't maintain it well.

Puttin a band aide on a Cat engine is like pissing in a fan and trying not to get wet if you dont go all the way thru it ...you should just leave it alone ..half ass repairing a Cat engine aint worth a shit

Seems like everyone is gettin these ole rides to fix up and work on if i was u i would try to put this ole ride bck on the road and get me a trailer for it once u get a sleeper and get it road ready and i would use it to make a lil extra money on the side and make videos of your trips
