Mine will be a bit simpler, solar panels on roof. 2 deep cycle batteries and walls will be built inside out, inside and rafters first, then insulation next full wrap with water proof heavy plastic sheeting, then put on the exterior metal

Looks amazing. I'm trying to plan a build my self but having problems figuring out my outside and inside trim. What did you use on your build? Is that just light gauge steel and you forced it around with bar clamps? I'm finding angled trim but don't under stand how I'm going to bend it around and still look goo and smooth.
@Don-zg6iz8 жыл бұрын
+Trenton Puentes i normally use 1/8" thick aluminum angle, one leg is 1-1/2" long and one leg is 3/4" long. i put the longer leg on top and let the shorter be on the side. i sort of pre-bend the curve in a vice and then use bar clamps to pull every thing tightly together. i buy the angle strips at metal supermarket or grainger. you could buy regular rv corner molding online. i have used it before, but it is much softer and weaker than the 1/8" stock, although certainly much easier to work with.
@fingerfunny18 жыл бұрын
Thanks bud I should be able to find the angle. Drew up the plane and I'm about ready to make it happen.

Very nice. Couple of questions. #1. What type of glue did you use to hold the aluminum to the plywood? #2. How did you apply uniform pressure to the panels to ensure that the aluminum was properly bonded to the plywood? Thanks.
@rancher121214 жыл бұрын
I don't build anymore, but I tried every type of adhesive, nothing holds very long because of the expansion, contraction of the aluminum, clear silicon seemed to work best, what I should have been using was 3m body molding tape, but it is expensive, I just glued the aluminum with the wall laying flat and a sheet of plyboard and weights on top

I like your design, like your construction process, love the look of the final product, and I like your video. I love that you made that fucking thing from scratch, I think that's the coolest thing ever. Wish I knew how to weld. I wanted to weld one and someone advised me that it's hard to do. I suspect that guy just was hating on me cuz he knows how to weld and he doesn't want other people to learn quickly to do something he took years to get to but anyway I took his advice to heart a little bit. Good spot for the AC that's clever. wow small battery that's interesting. I bet you regret those blinds? They must move a lot when you're travelling. Any lessons from all this? You must have used it a little bit. I mean there are some things in this design that are not what I am looking for because my abilities don't exactly match yours (for example welding), and my needs are different from yours, and also my preference is probably just to use foam and either pmf or fiberglass, plus a few other specialty design constraints that I want, but overall I'm gonna say that's about the best simple build I've seen. Pretty cool. I like the simplicity. But it's not badly made or badly designed, it's just simple. Like that AC shows a lot of thought but the overall design is simple. Very clever, I'm really impressed by your skills and your design work, thank you.

Few Questions if you can answer will help me greatly. First how do you legally sell these trailers or even legally bring them out on the road? Im guessing its all through the DMV? And trailer insurance? Second after you build and want to sell is there an inspection you have to get done to make sure everything is safe? Im taking community college classes on all the basics, electrical/plumbing, so would i be allowed to install these things on my own? Without an expert just youtube and books? Or is it expected for a professional electrian/plumber to come in? I understand your trailer doesnt have many of these things but you seem like you know the field.
@robertcarlson75996 жыл бұрын
Danny Edwards, I’m actually building one in Washington State, and planning to sell them on a limited made-to-order basis. All the information you ask about should be on your state’s dept. of transportation and business licensing websites. All told, my license to manufacture costs about $300, and a $15000 bond, which you won’t need if you are building only one for yourself. Also, you can do the wiring and plumbing yourself and get it inspected by the dept. of labor and industries. You need to purchase the technical manuals for RV Construction from RVIA. Good luck with your build! Bob

So I would like to build a teardrop trailer and then sell it to make some money. I’m a minor so is it even legal for me to sell something like a teardrop trailer? And what fees and stuff would I have to pay to be able to sell it?
@maxamundsen6 жыл бұрын
You are legally able to sell this however, in order for this to be street legal, you or the buyer has to get it registered

No insulation in the floor.... no membran on the inside to take the humidity from when people is sleeping inside it.. no membran beneath too....
@trevordinwoodie32316 жыл бұрын
What to you mean by membrane?
@Sjackson23696 жыл бұрын
Its a plastic film usually used in home construction to help slow the ingress of water/moisture into a building. usually see it on a new construction before they put the siding on. helps manage moisture and humidity.
@ktkt1825 Жыл бұрын
@@Sjackson2369 Plastic deteriorates over a short time- a rubber material would be better. In homes, what's usually used is Tyvek (called house wrap)- it allows moisture out, but not in. I would certainly seal the floor ply above (polyurethane) and below (undercoating). Moisture and condensation are the biggest causes of material failure (rot/rust/etc.) in trailers.
