Can anyone here just watch the video and enjoy already. You viewers don’t always have to look into the small details. This was a cool video 👍

Great video! All that editing, Camera angles, close ups, background music, appearing then disappearing parts labeling text, it was all fantastic! Critique- I would have awarded bonus points had you used only 100+ year old antique watch maker tools in this video.

You didn't let the power down before diassembly. Essential first step some might say.

Amazingly intricate and beautiful. Now for my next trick, let's clean the parts and put it back together. Is there another video? :-)

I hate to be that guy, really, but a lot of disturbing stuff in that video. Letting the power down first is a must, protecting the dial when removing the hands to avoid damaging the dial is... well. a must, remove the balance bridge first as the wheel attached to it is the most fragile component, DO NOT pry off the canon pinion like that or you'll squish it, remove the wheels in the proper order. Great video in terms of production but quite misleading and dangerous in terms of 'how to'

Thats a great comment. I just inheritied my family's 110 year old E.Howard. I've been learning about them. I want to have it serviced so it continues running for another 100 years. So I'm doing a little learning trying to see if I can handle it myself or not. I'm pretty handy- but some how I get the impression that my mechanical skills learned on the motorcycle and at my job fixing machines at the plant don't apply to clock making. I just hate to mail it off. Any company you could recommend? The Howard has both the works and case made in the same factory. I'm half afraid someone will steal my antique works and give me some China bullshit.

Annnnd apparently there are 2 canon pinions in this vid... the first one was actually the safety pinion on the main wheel... and yes i agree taking off the ACTUAL canon pinion like that WILLLL crush it out of shape... and i also agree REMOVE BALANCE from plate before disassembly... like there is a hairspring stud screw derples magee... 🤣☮🇨🇦

Was hoping to see the rest of the case taken apart. Springs, stem, etc.

Thanks for posting. I have an account with you guys and have bought many items from Esslinger over the years. Didn't know squat on how to get the movement out though. But shouldn't you have put a barrier between the hands tool and the Dial? First pocket watch I have tried my hand at and it's going very smooth. What's the best way to get the crown out of the case? I'm going to fully service this sucker.

If there is a good watchmaker in your area, that would be a good bet. Expect to pay upwards of 400 dollars if parts need to be replaced.

Esslinger dismantles a Waltham 1883 from 1899 and uses a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the cannon pinion. "Sacrilege I say."

Guys, I need a good company to trust my 110 year old E.Howard pocketwatch to. Works fine- just need lube and inspection. Reccomendations? I've emailed a few companies, but how do you trust anyone's reviews or references.
