I built my first HEMI 1951 I was 16 years old. I lived in Palm Desert California and I lived on Akasia and I was going to the Texaco gas station a different way then the usual. I saw a duce in the driveway of a neighbor's house about 3 blocks away and it had a HEMI WOW. I just had to stop. A guy came out and talked to me and said it was a Desoto 291 Ci. His name was Ted Aceto and he said him and his brother Richard were partners. Ted said they were going to put a 331 in it but it needed a lot of parts and work then he showed it to me on the side of the garage. it was in the dirt ( desert sand ). Ted gave it to me WOW I Have a hemi. I was 16 years ole born 06/06/1943 I could not believe it. It took a while to put it together. I put in a Dempsey Wilson cam drag and street. I put it in a 1951 Desoto and it was a sleeper it would pull the wheels off the ground I put in Auburn clutch which I broke in 3 minutes tore the center out of the spline housing in the center of the disk. We are all old now but I have a ford 1929 coupe and I have a 1957 392 HEMI I am rebuilding. 1/2 inch stroke 30 over will make it 450 Cubic inch with 8/71 blower Aircraft seats chopped 4 in. drop axle 4 in. old School. no rat rod for me I lived in the day's 50's most are trying to copy. I have built a lot of cars. I worked for Porsche for 20+ years V/W . Regards; Phil 06/03/2022

Awesome 😎 . I built a hot lil' ..30 over Buick 350 w/ a 70' block & 69' heads w/ the full Comp cams treatment in a 71' Skylark w/ 3:42's and that thing was a whole lot of fun. The best suggestion I have for you is liberal use of PB fabulous blaster. How's that cylinder down with the stuck piston in it and just let the PB Blaster set there and do its thing. Exercise a little patience, I know it's hard but try anyway and cap that piston once or twice a day what is a dead blow hammer and add a little more PB Blaster when necessary but give it a little time let it do its thing and I bet before you know it that piston slides right out of the cylinder 😎

On the flip side of that coin I just spoke with a guy over here in Boise Idaho and sound a complete untouched 400 horse Buick 350 out of a 69 LeSabre with a 400 package that comes with some nice accessories that I'll hopefully be picking up here real soon

@@LunarOutlawsGarage yes sir they are 😁 with 10.5:1 comp, ported heads w/ big valves, a comp cams 468H cam, a Carter 675 afb w/ 6.75 psi @ the fuel rail for maximum pressure without bypassing the needle and seats & 3" stainless exhaust it makes for one nasty awesome sounding engine that turns heads and I love to see the look on people's faces when you pop the hood and they see it's a Buick, it's priceless and it never gets old 😇

I'm watching this with no sound , but this engine has the early 1 piece crossover - water pump assembly ( 54 331 or later 354 truck or industrial ). As long as it has the large oval exhaust ports the heads are good to go ( round port heads are blah ). But in general this is the best V8 ever produced ( mass produced ) . There were many unknowns back then but this engine sorted out a great many things across the auto industry. It remains a " viable " platform , unlike most others from the 1950's. Keep the Firepower lit fellers !!! Edit : it looks like these are round port heads. Get some 55 heads and don't waste time on these. Modern rectangular intake and oval exhaust ports .

54s had big port heads. If these are round port heads, they are not the original ones.

Cool piece of 50's technology! Don't know how good the head will seal but If it is good and flat I have bolted a head on no gasket and used a grease gun with a zerk screwed into an old spark plug to push a stuck piston out.

Oil filter canister, was optional as I remember... I believe you're correct about this being a happy engine when parked. That stuck piston bearing being toast makes me wonder, if that was partially why that car was parked??? You're re- building it anyways, as you say, it's a good core. Be well. Looking forward to the next video. But, you need to rest up. Bye, bye!

Well as we know the old Hemi is the best choice for the Drift Rat it is a match era for it cause using a big Cummins will put way too much weight on it and it will break the axels a lot easy in my pending.

Clean the oil pan gasket surface real good. You should then be able to see a letter stamped by each bore. This tells the finish size of each bore. A means dead on. A B is .001 over a C is .002 over and so on. I've never seen a D nor a block more than one letter separation. Like all A's and a B or two. Never an A and C combo.I have heard that all the ones that don't make it were hit .005 over and used as replacement engines.

Hemispherical mons-trosity. I like! I too like the blower option. A non modified 6-71 with green paint and all. You can have them rebuilt or do it yourself but with second option you better know what you're doing because it isn't as straight forward as it might appear at first glance. There are a few tricks. 5-6psi no probs and the extra clearance inside is fine. You really don't need all the bells and whistles of a $3500+++++++ blower has. Just blower drive adapter kit, a good secondhand blower and the manifold of course. I might've posted this link here before but look at this Hemi and blower in a rat rod: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mZi4fX2uma-cn6c
