It was still quite different from typical video essayist. Especially the "edgy" humor, which was basically non-existant in the hour long "leftist" videos. Some of the jokes work well even today. It was refreshing to see someone on the left who didn't speak to you through barely understandable book quotes and wasn't afraid of using "crude" language.

Vaush is a little too hard on himself here, and I mean yeah, some sections do sound a little stiff and not entirely natural - but that's just because he was being careful with his words and tried to make his message clear, when making the OG video essay. Also, I like some of the dry humor he included here and there, like in the other video essay he did back in the day, where at the end he announced that he'll read (as if to prepare the audience for it) the whole list of his Patreon backers... and there was just ONE Pareon supporter, thanks to whom he bought the blue Yeti mic - because his sub count and audience was way smaller those 4 years ago. Small things like that add authenticity.
