Street Military's incredible look at life in the Street's of Houston. This is true reality Rap. I on-line edited this music video in the early 90's. It was a really nice piece considering it was shot on a very tight budget.

Sad as hell that Street Military never got big outside of Texas. When I moved to LA and started showing my friends their tapes they were all blown away, and couldn't believe these guys didn't become huge. Another Hit, Dead in a Year, Gotsta Get Paid, G-Song, Tears Came With Making This Dream, I mean this was a hell of a talented group, especially Pharaoh who should have become a huge star. So much amazing hiphop coming out of Texas in the 1990s, and yet so much of it got no love outside of Texas. E.g. Street Military, Lil Keke, 5th Ward Boys, ESG, 20-2-Life, South Circle, etc. Geto Boys punched through that wall but seemed like even UGK had to pay dues forever before they started getting recognized outside of Texas.

I just came across this music video on KZbin. I Directed and Edited it back in 93 maybe. I had not seen it before on KZbin and I did not post it myself. It's not the greatest clip, but it was an early work I did via a New York Agent (900 frames) and my first national project (even though it was shot in Houston with Houston's STREET MILITARY). These were some great kids who were really hungry to do some great work. I didn't quite get them what they wanted though I'm afraid. I think they wanted more bouncing cars and real-life images when I was more interested in creating a visual style with water and the story of this young kid caught in a bad situation. Most people didn't understand that the female wasn't supposed to be an actual person but more like an idea. Kind of like an angel watching over everyone. I don't think it ever actually hit the mark although I am happy with some of the visuals. I think it might have captured some of the sadness and heartbreak the song was conveying. I'd do it differently today but, in my defense I was young and inexperienced and the budget was very tight for a music video shot on film (around 15K). I hope the guys in the group are doing well all these years later now that we have all grown up. If they come across this video I want to wish them the best and apologize for not making the video better. ------ on a small note, I want to thank ROY for uploading this video, but in all honestly Roy, you were the ONLINE EDITOR, which means you actually just rebuilt the off-line edit I had already completed. So, just for the record that should be noted before you take any artistic credit for this (and maybe thats better for you, as this video wasn't the greatest thing ever created). STREET MILITARY - "TEARS CAME FROM MAKING THIS DREAM", Directed and Edited by Andy Siems --- On-Line Editor - Roy Schneider
@roydot7 жыл бұрын
Absolutely correct Andy, I did the on-line only, and not looking to (or needing to) take credit for your creative. The only reel I had this on was from Meyer Production and was a music video on-line edit reel. I will add on-line to the description to clarify Andy. I hope all is well and life and career are treating you well!
@pharoahfilms7 жыл бұрын
and i did the street promotion for this video. thought it would be a huge hit. it was a great song, wild pitch simply did not want to spend any money on the project. they thought word of mouth would get it done. they signed the group for highway robbery price already. i'm sure wild pitch made out like bandits, but this group could have really went big nationally
@jaybrock18616 жыл бұрын
I thought this video was great even when I 16. I am from Alabama and always went to the record store and bought music I never heard before. So was probably the only person in my area who ever heard of them. But always got stopped by people asking me what I was playing when they heard it bumping out my ride.
