When I got married in 1989 the only demand I had for our entire ceremony/reception was Tears would be our first dance. We divorced 5 years later but I still love the song.😂

“Tears” is why you do deep dives into bands. For most people Geddy Lee is the bassist for Rush but for those who know their music he’s the guy who penned that fucking masterpiece of a ballad. Just like Jimmy Page and the song “Tangerine” Great reaction as always guys and loving that Rush are on your radar Dev 😊

Yes, they were still evolving, and the success of this album allowed RUSH to free themselves from the record company demands that they write more "radio friendly" songs. As the song says, "...Let your heart be the anchor and the beat of your song." Thanks much for this! 😊

I actually used the phrase “you won’t get wise with the sleep still in your eyes no matter what your dream might be” on an anti-drug poster I had to make for a high school health class. I was praised for my creativity and received an A. Thanks Neil, you helped salvage my GPA that semester. In all seriousness RIP Neil, you were and remain the GOAT.

I love an awful lot of Rush across all the years, and yeah I've heard the amazing stuff like La Via strangiato off of the hemispheres album and just all of the stuff. And I absolutely love 2112. But I like all of these songs on side B but they close out the album with what is still my favorite Rush song ever, something for nothing. As a song song, to me it's perfect. It's gentle it's acoustic it punches really hard when it rocks, it's creative, the lyrics are so well-written and such a positive mission of lyrics, especially that bridge. And just them rocking out on it so hard is just so wonderful. I don't think they really played as hard as this that much in the later years.

This was their 1st initial trek into prog rock, after Caress of Steel which hinted, and that worked into A Farewell to Kings, then into Hemispheres, great music from a great band who were their own entity.

Love the thumbnail you guys crack me up with that 😂 ....i could see Tears grabbed you from the first couple of notes. I had this 8track back in 76, loaned it to a friend who loaned it to another friend, etc... that's how we got the word out before the Internet...lol

They never stopped evolving until the end. Sadly we'll never see greatness like that again but thankfully I lived to see it.

This was a rebellious album without being bitter. Mercury was putting pressure on them to make all sound bite songs and they gave them this on the day of the deadline. Mercury panicked but released it and the record jumped off the shelves and Mercury let them do their thing from there on in. Kudos to respectful rebellion where no one is hurt. Extremely Canadian!!!

You know what it was for me ? That 1st time I saw them in concert way back in 1978, was that you could tell they cared, that they were trying to be good ! You could feel the pride and the integrity, it shone through. Neil has even said this in interviews that he wants people to feel that care had been taken, and these guys always gave their best , and that's why 45 years later, I still care ! You guys do good reviews, and give little tid bits of knowledge about what you're reacting to, & it's always fun for Rush fans to see people hearing it for the first time, and hoping they like it, thanks guys !

Hearing Tears reminds me of their Permanent Waves album's last 2 tracks which are softer but really, really good. Entre Nous Different Strings Hopefully you two are going to review the entire Permanent Waves album at some point down the road. It is fantastic and had 2 other songs you might already know due to getting tons of play on the radio in Freewill and The Spirit of Radio:

IIRC Geddy was fighting with his girlfriend when he wrote this song. They married and are still together today (as is Alex and his first and only wife).

Not sure where you're going next in your Rush journey but I hope it's Permanent Waves which is the album before Moving Pictures and contains 2 of their big radio hits...2 longer prog rock epics and 2 love songs...no matter what you do next Rush fans will continue to " like...comment and subscribe"

Might as well continue with the next 3 albums, A Farewell to Kings, Hemispheres and Permanent Waves to get you back to where you started at Moving Pictures. These are core albums that are a must in my opinion if you are trying to understand them as artists and follow their progression as a band and amazing musicians.

First time I've heard that Alice in Chains cover. It was fine, but I'm not sure what the point was. I agree that they didn't do enough to make it their own.

You know the album is great as is. But if I were them, I would’ve flipped the sides. I think it would’ve been fun to open the album with side two. First song you hear is Bangkok. Then you flip to side two and then you have the whole 2112 thing. I think it would’ve been more dramatic that way. Although side two is great it almost comes across to me as an afterthought.

Tears is such an unRush sort of song…. But they could have done more like this. But …. I like the course they chose.
