I was able to identify some of my fake chips after exposing the silicon and reading the manufacturer logo and some identification codes directly off the dies -and then using the datasheets even to power them up and them to boot. I am confident at this point that they are operating as they should and are just relabelled .... BUT ... they are one-time programmable microcontrollers that have already been programmed. With what..? I haven't a clue.

UPDATE: the code is the boot config and startup test for some sort of Z80 based microcomputer (as best I can tell) Mildly interesting results I guess even if ultimately useless
