@robtriton20 күн бұрын
Wrong. This is my expertise professionally. These jammers confuse devices by overloading wireless traffic so that real traffic (the video feed) cannon get through. Then, with no functioning camera, the criminals burglarized homes essentially unseen. Most entry-level cameras - 99.9% in my estimation - are susceptible to this hack. The beauty of IP cameras is their simplicity, but, in this instance, it’s also their weakness. They don’t have an analog backup or secondary transmission option. If the Wi-Fi signal is blocked, then the camera is useless. Hardwired cameras connected to a very good UPS [uninterrupted batter supply] is the key. That way if the power is knocked out, the cameras are still functioning.
@tboneforreal18 күн бұрын

I have been installing security camera systems in commercial and residential situations. We never sold wireless. Aside from easily being jammed, they have low framerate and randomly go in and out on their own. My thing is, if you have to run a power wire, why not just run an Ethernet wire instead and use a PoE camera? Either way you're mounting the camera and running the wire, but with a PoE setup you get high framerates, clearer images, and it cannot be jammed. Also, this reporter is living in the 60's. Can't believe something like this exists? I was jamming 900MHz cordless phones with an electronic kit bought at Radio Shack before I was a teen. Jammers have existed since RF existed. Licensed ham now, and play on a wide array of frequencies. No way in heck I'd use a wireless anything if it was mission-critical!

Make sure whenever you buy a WiFi or any other security camera that it has the option to record the video if the network is down. Another situation where wireless cameras are feasible to be used is when placed on a adjacent building that has power but doesn't have a way to run data wires. Wireless has its place in home security. It's just not a primary one.

Because they did not go into details, let me explain the problem. The most common jammer sends reset packets to the router not the camera. This causes the camera and every other device using WPA2 to not connect to the internet. Amazon and Google can’t fix this problem without rolling out camera hardware that supports WPA3 which means everyone needs to replace their cameras. Solutions to this problem include using a wired camera system or using a multi-node mesh router system and spreading them far enough apart to prevent the low powered jammer from reaching the farther routers.

Question: if the camera is hard wired into a car or doorbell etc, will this WiFi jammer affect those cameras even if the camera has WiFi capability or it's own data plan?

Depends on how it's designed. Some cameras, like talked about here, stream the video to somewhere else in real time. There is little to no storage space to buffer the video for interruptions. Other slightly better wireless cameras have SD card slots in them that stores the video data which should be unaffected by a WiFi jammer for the most part. The camera can still be stolen along with the SD card, and your video goes with it if it's been jammed during the process though. The best security cameras use wired connections. Edit: The jammer just stops communication it doesn't keep it from working in other ways. The video is still being processed it's just not able to do anything with it before it runs out of onboard storage and purges it for new video.

Local councils in the U.K. using the excuse of GDPR where the use of CCTV cameras is regarded by them as illegal, when the use of cameras is by tenants and not by the council, could use signal jamming technology to block these tenant operated cameras, while also using their own covert technologies to monitor their tenants daily activities, especially where U.K. council tenants are also in receipt of U.K. state benefits

Hardwired is most secure.

The method used to do this needs to be researched and patched in the camera & router's firmware. Bust the companies making/selling/distributing the jammers.

So this is concerning but the fact that all of these devices send pictures of your kids to China isn't. Gotcha.

There is a video scrambler for wired cameras, once it's on part of the video will be pixilated and useless video.

I heard that if you have cameras that work with Apple‘s HomeKit it will still work even if your Internet goes down. PS you have to have either an Apple TV or HomePod for it to work. You also have to have iCloud+.
