I graduated in 2021 as Aerospace Engineer, pandemic hit this industry really hard, you can't be a remote Aerospace engineer that's besides the lots of airports stopped hiring. I decided to move on and switch careers to coding. This channel has helped me tremendously, I had no idea about DS and Algo just a few month ago and guess what?! I have a microsoft software engineer 2nd interview next week. I can't stress this enough but preparing for interviews with neetcode was a worry-free. 💙

You have my sympathies. I graduated in 2009, when many companies were still laying people off. It took two years, but I finally caught a break. I'm certain you will catch one too. In the meantime, you can take your time to both decompress and to learn new skills.

So, with nothing else to do, I grinded leetcode every day throughout this summer and your video is EXTREMELY helpful to me when I was struggling with all of the tricky leetcode problems. Now, I already got internship offers from Amazon and Goldman Sachs for Summer 2023. Sincerely appreciate your work! Thank you!

Recently I’d been interviewed at google, after 2.5 months of preparation and interviews, I’ve been told position is frozen. I was crushed, I cracked every single interview and but in the end it didn’t work out. It was hard to come back to daily routine knowing that you had it for a day then you lost everything. I’ve learned lot from your videos, and I always find them very relatable. Even hiring freeze. I’ll try again and hope this time I’ll make it. Thank you for everything.

I had the same experience, interviewed for early careers SWE (1.5 full time experience) in mid July, found out I passed my interviews but never made it to Hiring Committee because hiring freezes were announced earlier that week. Definitely was a roller coaster of emotions, but now I can appreciate the slight blessing it is as I can ride out the big tech layoff storm in a different industry and still appreciate the moral boost that successfully interviewing at Google was.

Hey man, thank you for making this video, I really needed to hear this positive message. I was laid off 2.5 months ago and have been applying to jobs, getting interviews, and getting rejected, ghosted, etc. It really sucks and I have definitely not been feeling great about myself, thinking that I am too stupid to be hired or useful to any company. But in the meantime I have been coding every day on side projects, and answering questions on Stack Overflow, because these are things that I like doing and want to do with my life, whether or not I get paid. I am hoping that as I continue to challenge myself and learn tools, libraries, frameworks, and skills that these pay off when I eventually do get a job. Because I do know that I am worth hiring, even if this is just a bump in the road. So again, thank you, and I really appreciate this.

It's been roughly four months since I started my job hunting for software engineer. Almost every single company rejected me or "moved on for a better candidate". Amazon offered me the interview for SWE II and downgraded me to SWE I (because they got a hire...?) and I managed to finish all the SWE loop interviews (one online interview, one phone interview, five interviews) but was rejected two days later. I am still jobless. But NeetCode, I don't know how you did it man. I don't know how you kept going through all these struggles. I respect you and I am going to keep going as well. Thank you for your encouragement and all the videos. One day, I will donate or support you. And one day, you will be there with me too!! Best of luck to all these fighting and those who are trying!

I love this so much. I was choking up near the end. I graduated 3 months ago with my Computer Science Game Design degree and i've never felt more like a dumb loser. I have no job, I live with my mom, Ive bombed 2 interviews, and I feel like my skills are not up to par to what companies need. Ive only recently heard about this hiring freeze and now I have this anxiety looming over me telling me that I will never get a SWE job and I should just get some easy job like become an amazon driver or retail worker. This video however has given me so much hope. You said the exact words i've been wanting to hear from another fellow SWE. It's lonely out here for a new grad, first generation, with culture that is drastically different from the United States but you've made me feel so supported in this crowded emptiness. I'll be using this inspiration you have given us all to keep on going and keep building my skills. Thank you for everything you do

Do NOT take a non-developer job! This is critical! There is still huge, HUUUGE demand for engineers. Companies have just had to put a freeze on hiring because their stock prices have all plummeted over the past year, but I can tell you with certainty that many, many companies still actually NEED more engineers. Stay the course my friend, the future is very bright for software engineers. Beyond that, the best advice is exactly what the other person said. Do not limit yourself to tech companies or game producers. There is huge demand for software engineers in many different industries. Expand your scope a bit, but I strongly recommend joining a medium sized company or larger. When starting out, you need to be on a team where you can learn from the experienced engineers around you. No degree truly prepares you, and bootcamps definitely don't either. So don't make the mistake of taking on a role at a small company where they want you to be their sole IT savior. There's no long-term growth there, and it can entrench you in practices that may hurt your ability to move to a bigger company later.

Nope......... 1) Do project based learning and complete a few projects in areas of YOUR interest that you can show off! 2) Build up your resume and study good tech resumes, make it shine so recruiters come calling. 3) Build industry connections on LinkedIn and other areas to cast your net too, make sure your resume is uploaded to Indeed/ZipRecruiter/LinkedIn. 4) Practice interview prep and hardcore data structures and algorithms type questions to prepare yourself.

Last year I quit my job and decided to do my PhD in AI full-time. During the spring semester, I got burned out even worse and decided to take the next semester off with the support from my advisor. Before coming back for this new semester, I found out that my school was splitting up and closing, and that they're now rushing us to graduate. Due to my mental state, I was hoping to take the next couple of semesters to just relax with research only, but now that's no longer the case. I also decided to try to start interviewing again, and had began interviewing with Google. But with the state of the tech industry and the looming recession, I was/am aware that I probably won't be getting hired anytime soon. Rather than being hopeless (even though I feel hopeless), I am still working everyday to build up my knowledge, work on new algorithms, and learn new tools. After I left the military in 2011, I was in a similar position without having the background and education I have now. Things will get better, we just need to be always ready for the opportunities that will eventually come. Put the blinders on and keep going, you'll make it.

Companies were hiring left and right, all these bootcamps who produced a bunch of entry level engineers. Tech Market just became overheated. Casper (Mattress company), Peloton, etc decided that they can jump on hyped “tech unicorn” ship. It’s no surprise to me that a lot of companies are going out of business

Bootcamps are a scam that keep trying to oversaturate the industry.

@@atift5465 i won’t say it’s scam but it’s sort of short path to tech world for people who don’t have CS degree. Problem is that they only scratching surface and have lack of core knowledge

Perfectly said. Too many people without passion just going after the high salary.

@@SuperGojeto Tbf there is a lot of tech applications still to be made without needing the most difficult math to realize it. We just need engineers actually capable doing it or knowing how to write basic code. Ofcourse, depending on the application, you'll need CS at some point.
