Welcome to another Tech Review Tuesday. This week I'm checking out a new rugged Smart phone from Oukitel, the WP27. It's nicely specced out, will survive more abuse than the regular phone, and has a huge battery. Let's see how it performs!

I own this phone, and while sometimes the camera does take super photos, I have discovered that the camera has an awful long lag time between pressing the shutter button and the actual snapping of the photo. There can be as many as 3 to 5 seconds after pressing the shutter button and the camera actually taking the photo. Also, when I open a banking app to scan a QR code, the camera refuses to focus for several seconds, even a whole minute. Either I own a dud, or the app operating the camera is no good, or the processor is unable to manage the camera properly. This is a serious defect and taking closeup photos is almost impossible without long delays as it tries to focus. That said, the micro-camera works like a charm. Also, the infrared camera works fine on closeup focus while the standard mode does not. This would indicate a software/system problem...

mate does this have a radio? can't find the info any where? and seeing that you have one you could tell me. thanks

@nateapps7515 yessir. It has an FM radio. It requires a 3.5 headphone. I do not recommend this phone, however, as the headphone jack is also too deeply embedded and most regular jacks are too fat on the outside, and fall out easily from the hole... I am still trying to figure out how to make a video showing how the camera does not focus in photo or scanning QR mode ... When I do, I will try to get my money back....

Wow, just tested my 2 year old DooGee S58Pro rugged phone and it manages 775 - I knew it was slow but that's mega low 🤣🤣. I do need a rugged phone for work though. After watching your vid it does make me think I need a new work phone, thanks.

Its the case of a lot of older, or cheaper phones not having any sort of GPU at all. It should be fine for web stuff, youtube and the usual mobile games - it just won't push 3d. My iPhone 14 tells me to run a different benchmark as it completely maxes out the test :D

i just bought this phone, but the problem is there is no 2g option in the network settings.. is this normal? Pls help...

Hi Wayne Out of curiosity how does the screen brightness compare to other devices you have used? I’m interested from the point of view as a display for a camera drone in bright sunshine, as I can’t find a nits rating for the display. Mni Tks.

It's not bright enough. I checked the Oukitel and it's 430 nits. You really need to be aiming for 1000 to use outside in the sun.

How about you turn your flash on, or in this case, infrared lights? 12:50 that small lighting shape thing you see on the left side above HDR, that would be your IR lights always on. You're welcome.

Well, you live and learn. Thanks for this - I obviously didn't have a clue. Interestingly they seemed to be on auto when I started but somehow they got turned off and HDR was turned on. Not sure how that happened.

Its blasphemy to say android is like iOS lol, us android users can do what we like with our phones and are not locked into a dictatorship like iOS!

I agree, if there's one thing I really dislike about Apple stuff is the fact you can't run what you like/connect what you like. However, Android 13 does feel very similar to iOS in it's UI and how you use it now.

@@CurryKitten There is hope for you IOS guys, just as the EU has forced Apple into using USB C on all new iPhones, they are also looking to force them to allow side loading to break their control and allow IOS users to run whatever they like. There is also talk of the iron fist control over connectivity being dealt with by EU mandates but that is a lower priority, they are basically seeking to nuke Apples dictatorship and force them to allow the freedom to do with your phone as YOU wish like us Android users have been able to do from the start. It can only be good for IOS users, im not a fan of the EU but i have to give them this one, what they are forcing apple into is good.

The "dictatorship" is why I switched from iPhone and Android several years ago.
