I absolutely appreciate the care and time LTT allowed for Tim to explain his coffee hobby, especially the editors' notes explaining stuff when Tim mentions something that isn't common knowledge. A lot of the difficulty of getting into a hobby is not having the prior knowledge to talk about it -- it's overwhelming to hear someone talk about something you don't know anything about -- but Tim explained the basics really clearly and concisely, and the editors supported him on everything that might be confusing to a casual viewer. It's not what I expected from a tech channel, but I appreciate the time and care LTT put into it!

This video has to have been deliberately conceived as a series of back door pilots bundled together #GoLTT
@johnmarklowry2 жыл бұрын
@@RandomUser2401 As with anything else, what you can spot in a blind tasting will depend on how sensitive your taste is and how familiar you are with coffee in general. A relatively new coffee drinker might not be able to distinguish all of these, but I'd assume someone who's brewing a V60 every morning and is into coffee as a hobby could distinguish quite a few of these factors. A list in order of appearance: coffee sourced from a local 3rd wave roaster, grinding the coffee fresh right before brewing, a good grinder with consistent grind size output, using precise ratios and measuring in grams for accuracy, type of filter used and speed that the filter allows water to pass through, pour technique that allows for bloom time. That's the big stuff, but there will also be some minor things like washing the filter beforehand to remove paper taste, etc. You'd be surprised what can be detected through triangle tasting, and if you're curious, I can almost guarantee that he's been watching another KZbinr who explains all of this in extensive detail - James Hoffmann.

The different hosts have different specialties, so you get slightly differing POVs of different tech. taste is quite subjective thing...
@sporemaster972 жыл бұрын
@@s.i.m.c.a Yes, but explaining the different techniques and such, and how they effect the coffee's taste gives you the ability to make coffee to your *own* preference. If you don't understand why it tastes like that, you won't be able to adjust and make something you like more. Taste is subjective, you're not wrong, but it's completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. I can make a video showing how to make Chicken Parm, and there's absolutely nothing that would stop people watching it from doing something differently than I did, or using different ingredients they like over what I chose. Like swapping the brand of sauce used for one that they prefer. Food and drink tutorials are more of a loose guide as to what to expect. If you follow it to a T without any of your own input, it probably won't taste how *you* want, nor expect.
@slartibartfast26492 жыл бұрын
Do whatever suits you, but I find all the equipment pretentious. Countries with coffee as one of the centres of their culinary culture, such as Turkey and Italy, do not bother with rubbish about angles of different filters and weighing to the 0.1g. Get a macchinetta. Forget the rest of that bullshit. Winetasters would swirl it around their mouth becuase it "technically gives better aeration of the fluid which releases more flavour" or equivalent babble. You would look like an uncultured tool if you did that on a day-to-day basis. If you get a beautiful wine, the purpose is to enjoy it, not dissect it.

I got really excited about the Zune segment. Such a great player. Plus their subscription model was unlimited music for $10 a month and you could keep 10 songs for life each month (something like that?). It was wild and sad to see people never gave it a chance.
@scottcol232 жыл бұрын
Yeah, It was $15 a month, and getting to keep 10 songs reduced the price of the subscription to a mere $5 since the price of an mp3 at the time was $1 a song. It was a great feature on a mediocre device. I had the original Creative Nomad Jukebox 6gb mp3 player in 2000 and upgraded to the ZUNE when it launched in 2006 just for the service and smaller footprint. The Creative Jukebox was the size of a diskman and had abysmal battery life. At the time I worked for a ski resort full time and having an MP3 player was so useful. I went to the iPhone in 2007 so the zune went back in its box where it sits today.
