The DIR /S command is not a scanning command it merely lists the contents of a directory including the subdirectories and the TREE command is similar. If you run the command from C:\ it will take along time to complete and the scammer will type at the keyboard whatever they want you to see when the command has finished running. You can also use CTRL-C to cancel the command. When you press ENTER at the command prompt and the text is not a real command then you will get the "Command not recognised..." as a result.
