Tech Talk: MODX+ Scenes

Great video! I am transitioning from a PSR SX900 to an MODX7+. Previously owned an early MODX7. Would you compare the registration memory buttons on the PSR to Scenes on the MODx, but with Scenes having far greater horsepower?

I do appreciate all the help that Yamaha provides to their users via these many experts. A suggestion to make these sessions more applicable to all, would be to use performances we can all follow along with. I suggest picking some performances we already have on-board our keyboards. This way we can start and stop the video as we move along with you, step for step. Blake is great, but man you go pretty fast and skip over a myriad of details that are only discovered as we try to apply all you've said, and then get stuck along the way. I mean this for all these sessions, not just this one. I would say your demos are for people already very familiar with the instrument who can jump around like you do and who fully grasp all the terms and navigation points used. I would suggest a better lesson plan on your end so you don't forget things and then jump back and so on. Using performances that we already have as lesson examples would go a long way to enhancing our understanding. Thanks for listening, as we all do appreciate the effort put into these.

This is an excellent and well explained tutorial. Sounds like you're relatively new to using the MODX or Montage. It does take some time to learn the sequential logic of many of the functions in the system. Just a suggestion: Focus on a particular certain part of the instruction by stopping & starting the video covering that certain part of the instruction and take notes to use as a guide when practicing it on your own. Best to stay focused on mastering one or two functions at a time rather than trying to master everything at the same time. In regard to which "Performances" to use as you learn, try using "Single-Part" "Performances" to simplify learning to use "Scenes". (Search INIT > choose Single-Parts from the drop down list.) Hope this helps.

Now if we could only store the Assign 1/2 button state and the Assignable 1-8 knob values directly (without the motion sequence workaround) in the scene, that alone would be worthy of a 2.6 update, IMHO.

Is there any way to change scenes via an external MIDI program change message? Would be very helpful to trigger different part changes automatically in conjunction with different sections when using backing tracks through a DAW.

Not sure about program change message, but you could bind CC92 (as per default), or you can configure CC channel in the utilities -> midi i/o section
