I’d protect it too. When my particle board is coming apart sometimes I paint it with epoxy if it’s not going to be very visible. I’ve had good luck with that.

Ahhh. That’s a good idea. There’s a two part wood hardner a friend used with me on my breakout table. We did a video on it. But. I still haven’t got any for myself. Ha.
