Agreed with information regarding the pressure. I think a lot of people naturally want to use pressure instead of letting the stone doing the work. I am guilty of this myself when I first started using the KME.

I wish I’d found this channel sooner. I’ve gotten somewhat obsessed with sharpening the last few months. I don’t have a digital microscope but I have a jewelers loupe (12$ from Amazon) that has been invaluable.

Just picked up a ko3 from Gritomatic. Thanks so much for all your wisdom and what you do the the knife community! I am grateful for you Scott! Do you have a video on proper stroke methods? I’ll be buying juice soon. My buddy tells me to go back n fourth but I’m thinking scratch pattern and your motion in this video was upwards. Maybe you have a video I can keep looking. Thank again!

Thanks. I do more scrubbing motions than anything. If you watch I am pretty sure I discuss scratch patterns in a few videos. If not you can ask here or reach out to me on FB as “Scott Gunn”

A couple of decades ago when I was in gunsmithing school we were taught to alternate scratch patterns as much as 45° or even 90° between grits when transitioning for a few passes and then continue with your primary polishing/sharpening pattern. I've noticed the same works fairly well on knife edges. I do have a question for you though about strops and emulsions. Frankly I'm fairly confused about the whole matter. I'm not a sharpening snob and with the exception of a few kitchen knives never take edges past 2500 and I think 6um Gunny Juice is the way to go for me. I just don't know what strop material to put it on. I'm at the end of a Venev tube of paste and I'm about to totally revamp my stropping system. Any insight would be greatly appreciated Scott TIA.
