I bought this off you at Blade Show in Atlanta this past June. I like it alot and not only use it to clean but as a lubricant when sharpening. Works great 👍

Hi, can you please do an updated video on Gunny Shines showing how to use it for sharpening and cleaning? If you can cover what type of stones it should be used with that would be great. I have Atoma Diamond, EdgePro Diamond Matrix and Chosera stones. Do you use it with water while sharpening eg pre-wetting stones with water and then Gunny Shines and when cleaning how does it compare with soap and water or alcohol? Thanks
@GunnysSharptalk Жыл бұрын
This shouldn’t be used with water. It helps prevent the stones from loading with metal. It works well with all the stones you have. I put this straight on the stones instead of water. It cleans a lot better than soap and alcohol.

I use bar keepers friend on my ceramic stones. A little dab on the stone and use my finger for a good hard rub cleans them like new.

This allows you to use it as a lapping/sharpening fluid too.

I'd like to see how well it works for stone lapping/flattening....I use water with a few drops of dish soap currently...it does ok, but it would be nice if something worked better for stone lapping and produced a bit better slurry

I haven’t tried it for that yet, but I will

I think people would like it. I just use a pencil eraser on the spyderco ceramics.

Thanks. I didn’t plan on doing a video and I happened to just finish a knife on that. My sharpening station is downstairs and I was upstairs with this stuff. So that happened to be the stone I used. Lol

would that work on diamond bonded stones too, I’d be interested. I use the idahone eraser on my finer stones and it works very well, but that liquid probably lasts longer. I’d try it for sure.
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
Yep. I use is on resin and metallic bonded stones. I haven’t tried it on plated stones, but it shouldn’t be any different

Please tell me you have some stones in the works. I'd love some type of diamond stone from you,. Your doing things differently kinda like Shawn (BBB). You are an innovator in this space man, it's a beautiful thing to see. I'll even test them for you 😉

I plan to make some resin bonded diamond stones. I hope to be working on them before the year is out. I might need to be at a point to where I have transitioned into this full time in order to do it, but yes stones are in the works. I think that I can do a 0.25 micron stone that’s actually effective. The ones on the market like that now leaves scratches or rather creates them. I believe that I have figured out a way to prevent that. I just need to get some of these other products out first.

Hi Scott, I use your GJ on basswood as you recommended. Great results! Was wondering, as I get metal buildup and need to apply more GJ, should I clean first before reapplying and if so how would you recommend cleaning, like say just a simple cloth wipe down or just reapply new layer? Thanks!
@GunnysSharptalk2 жыл бұрын
I just reapply. After a few times I throw it away. You can clean them with alcohol wipes

I had another question, I have some metallic bonded cbn stones 240,300,500,700,1500,2000,3000 I finished them all on 60 grit sic on the finger stones should I take them up for a finer finish before I etch them? And or should I take all of them up to a finer sic finish before I etch? I'm not sure if that will throw them off by being thinner exct..
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
You should be fine to etch them as they are
@GunnysSharptalk3 жыл бұрын
Just watch for stray scratches at the higher grits. If that happens then smooth the stone with fine sandpaper. The etch should smooth any burrs, but not always
@kevinfitz37213 жыл бұрын
@@GunnysSharptalk thanks for the tip im going to smooth them out a bit with some 1200 grit sandpaper before I etch them

Also I talked to poltava diamond tools, and they did say that they will make vitrified cbn sharpening stones, I guess not something they normally offer but maybe something you would like. if so hit them up on Instagram, I'm trying to save up I did just get some from practical sharpening that I love so far to

So you know this because you have used both? And there’s many stones the WD-40 will ruin.

@@GunnysSharptalk it works very well on the spyderco ceremic stones.i tried oils and wd40 on some korean oil stones and they dont seem to work that well but didnt ruin it

@@MrLeonardee it’s fine for sintered ceramic stones like the Spyderco. If you watch the video I do mention that I am “creating “ a cleaner. I haven’t finalized the formula. @@GunnysSharptalk Which type of stones would be ruined by WD-40? And how would it ruin it? By basically making the stone permanently water repellent so it can't be used with water any longer (because you can't remove all of the wd-40 from the pores) or does it ruin the binding agent somehow? I can't see it ruining the abrasive any. Thanks!
