Thank you so much! I’ve seen people use pressure on the pedals to snap these in place, but I didn’t think about that needing to be on the top area to get the most force into the link. Dumb oversight on my part but thanks for the reminder. I used a rubber mallet to deliver force into the pedal and it worked like a charm

I’ve forced many of chain links apart and have always just used 2 flat heads your method is way better. Also the brake trick now there’s nothing close to this technique to get it on good thanks man that was sick

Nice method. New pads and rotor. Not bedded in yet. I had been sitting on my bike and trying to pedal it together but the brake wouldn't stop the wheel so nothing to brace against Got off the bike, put the split link where you said, and hit the crank with my palm and it popped in easy! Many thanks 🎉

Oh wow, took me all of 3 seconds, no snake tools required, great tip thank you for the video.. Special bike chain pliers they said at the local shop... Came away with a Big grin on my face 😊.. Quickly got home and used small pipe Jaws but mole grips or small narrow nose ones will work fine.. 👍👍

I would say yeah been riding for years hacking away at the quick link till I just dropped $ 10 for the actual tool small enough to fit in a bike pack /marathon kit with holders on the handle for an extra link to fill in if one breaks. $10 is worth not having to hack around anymore, hack are good when you need it NOW tho!

My local bike shop told me that once you pop those off you have to get new ones. If you have a 12-speed. What's your thoughts on that? In other words you can't reuse them.
@BBInfiniteАй бұрын
Maybe he is talking about reusing chain pins, because you definitely don't want to reuse on. As for the quick links, reuse them. You won't have any problems doing so.

ok so what if your chain doesnt have that and every pin is the same
@BBInfinite9 ай бұрын
In the complete absence of a quick link you must use a chain breaker to remove one of the pins. Generally, the pin that's removed is not reusable. There are many great YT videos showing this procedure.

@BBInfinite Жыл бұрын
We do it every day with 12speed Shimano, Sram, KMC, etc---quick link style chains. No problems or difficulties. Perhaps you are mistaken.
@dannyvv757 ай бұрын
But if cycling/mtb riding is your hobby and you take good care of your gear why not buy a chain quiklink tool voor about €10 or €15 ? Makes the job much easier to.
@BBInfinite7 ай бұрын
We use special tools when there is nothing that can do the job just as well. A pair of pliers does the quick link job as well or better than a special tool, ergo, we don't bother with it.
@dannyvv757 ай бұрын
@@BBInfinite respectfully disagree, you position the players on both outsides of the link while a ql tool easily clicks in the middle of the link. By applying pressure on the outer link you also risk bending the link. Using plyers is ok if you got nothing else but if you can spend €50 or even €80 on a chain certainly a chain link tool should be in your bikeshed.
