I think it is really interessting, that you call it "sitzprobe" in the US too. It is a german term and means litteraly sitting rehearsal. Always my favorite part as a musician who plays in orchestras which play operas. Makes it so much better when everything is coming together :) Thanks for taking us along to the rehearsals!

I am a theatre girly who was pursuing my Broadway dreams and have kinda switched gears now (transferring to a new university, studying something different). When I was in HS, it looked like the ensemble were not “real characters” but now that I am in the “real world” theMOST talented people EVER get casted as ensemble and do multiple roles.(I know that in HS that’s most of the time a luxury they can’t afford). I have learned, through experience and castmates experiences, that is is 100x more challenging to play 3+ characters fully (like, actually do the work) than it is to play one throughout the entire play; having to built all these different personalities takes a heck of a talented person!

the ensemble is truly my favorite place to be when it’s all said and done! of course there are lead roles that are dreams but i am truly my happiest telling the story and i feel like the ensemble makes the stories real, bringing life, ambiance, literally setting the vibe!! ugh i LOVE IT!!!

it really just depends on the production company, the venue, many factors. some shows are even one night only while some have a run for over a year!
