Thanks for the low level detail. I bought one before watching this but I won't change my mind as I knew I wasn't buying the higher spec of GoPro or DJI (because I'm not paying for it). Only real disappointment is the lack of external mic as I want to use it for a video diary on my travels. But at this price, no complaints.

Great review again! I love how you also dive into the chips and what that means. One thing I personally would be curious about is which action camera's you can also use as a webcam. I know some have this option when you plug it in your PC with an USB cable. Do you think that mostly depends on the chipset? Especially in these times it would be great to use it like that, especially if the quality is any good. Probably beats any webcam built-in to a laptop or all-in-one PC anyway, I imagine, since they suck ;-)

Hey Guido, this is a very valid point, and unfortunately only a few of these actioncams support the feature at the moment. I think GoPro have recently brought this as an update. I am sure that more and more cam makers will enable such a feature. If the laptop has a 1080p sensor, it might actually be good for teleconferences because of the smaller pixel density.

I use lavalier microphone connected to Zoom H1 - and then sync that with the video in post production.

You can unscrew and replace it if needed, yes.

I have a Sony AS50 and its great but thought maybe the Akaso Brave 7 LE would be a step up is this not the case ? Also seen a GoPro Hero 6 Black which is a recon from GoPro for a good price would this be a step up from my Sony or just keep the Sony

Most silicone sleeves have cuts around the mics - so it should be OK. But yeah - if there's something in the way of the mic, it will of course be blocking some sounds.

Good review. Focus on the processor. I believe brave 7 le is good for secondary if you are a motovlogger. The front screen is good to check if you have a good angle.

Fantastic video technically. If I had to find fault, it would be the sound which is not always perfect, but I'm being very critical. You will get better. Image stabilization is key for an action camera. The GoPro hero 10 has gone to another level of winner, so budget might not make it for me. I might just be patient and go with the best. Having said that bull, the price is so good that I might get this akaso to practice and use as a backup for the GoPro. I hate having only one of anything because everything can break and you never want to have nothing in any situation. Thanks for the very complete video. Have fun.

There are many apps that can stitch multiple videos into one. And as mentioned in another comment - it is a limitation implied by the Fat32 file system.

I'd prefer IPX7 over IP65, as the 7 indicates a higher level of water resistance. IPX8 would be higher still.

Yes - it has to do with the way EIS works. It utilizes the shutter speed and increases it, so that it can make sure the stabilization is better. If you shut it off, the camera will use lower shutter speeds, which result into more light reaching the sensor. That's a general rule for most action cameras.

I ordered one of these since junky gopro hasn't sent my replacements for their junky 8 that overheats and shuts of all the time causing me to lose quality footage, wasting my time and money. Once I get this one in, run it through it's paces for my purposes, the GoPros will be sold. I don't have a need for 4k or 5k. 1080 is enough for most people due to most videos being watched on such small screens

I was considering this camera. A lot of the YT vids are just following the hype. Akaso makes it sound like new tech. The old processor undermines that. It's too bad about the stabilization, that was what I wanted. If someone needs basic waterproofing or a front screen, this is probably a good deal. But the camera part seems flawed. Akaso has too many models to be taken seriously. Thank you.

I have this camera. We used it for our vacation. The issue is the 4k footage is not that crisp like the GoPro HERO Cameras. So you get what you pay for. A mid range $100-$150 action camera.

You can actually change mods on the GoPro with buttons as well. overall for it's price actually I'd say with all what it comes with, it's awesome! even with all it's downsides If I'd need to buy an action camera now, I'd go with the GoPro still, I have some issues on how the Insta works, and I prefer the GoPro quality over the DJI Osmo, but if my main goal would be to vlog, Osmo is probably better choice. Which reminds me, rumors say the GoPro 9 will have a front screen as well :-)
