As an auto parts sales guy... If Stellantis puts the same level of quality into the electronics in this that they have in the Dodge/Jeep lines, then there will be a LOT of problems. There's not going to be much confidence either from traditional pickup owners about a unibody pickup built to look like a body-on-frame truck. And if there's no larger non-turbo engines, only small turbo motors, I'm out. I like reliability and you just don't see it with small turbo motors. Having owned a four-door Tacoma since 2007, I'll never have another four door pickup. A large bed is much better.
@jvaneck899118 күн бұрын
Yet the old Chev Avalanche 4-door had this mid-bulkhead that dismantled and folded down, to create a long bed when you wanted it, and an enclosed 4-door cab when you were good with a short bed. Rather nice design, if you ask me.

I live where there's snow & I NEED a 4WD. QUESTION: what's a good 4wd that will break down the least and need the least $ to upkeep, please? Your experience and wisdom is most appreciated when you share it. ;)
@k.b.tidwell16 күн бұрын
@@peterson6824 there's a reason I own a Tacoma. 😁 Seriously, I base my automotive purchases on the vehicles I sell the LEAST amount of repair parts for. Toyota is that for me, though the latest models are getting a tarnished reputation for reasons I don't understand yet. I have no love for the new more techy and more fragile vehicles from every manufacturer. I will remain old school and there are plenty of older vehicles that to me are much better than newer ones. But to answer your question, every vehicle brand has good and bad over the years, so my best advice is to take whatever catches your eye and research the heck out of its ups and downs.

Just build a body on frame truck, regular cab (2 door), 6 to 8 foot bed, manual widows and door locks, standard radio (maybe or leave it out with space for the consumer to add one), a/c can be an option, manual transmission, straight six in 300 cubic inches or bigger, maybe a V8 option both naturally aspirated, rear wheel drive with selectable part time four wheel drive, back up camera, rear leaf springs front coils, 15 or 16 wheels.

Strike one, its a Fiat, Strike Two, its a unibody Strike Three, its front wheel drive. If that's what they think people want they deserve to go out of business. If its smaller than a Maverick then its WAY too small. at 6ft 3in tall, I don't come close to fitting in the Maverick, if this is smaller, maybe it belongs at the circus not on the road. Where's the bed? Trucks are for carrying things, what on earth can you carry in that? I don't know where you would get 'commercial' from anything with a 1.4L engine, or a CVT as an option. Its more like a four wheel moped with a roof for $16K? Go back and build a full size truck with an inline 6, and an 8ft bed, with 15" tires and a frame, maybe even a radio, and they' might have something. We don't need a street legal golf cart that costs $16k.

Sorry to inform you that Many Vans have had and still have technically a unibody construction. Fiat actually makes a very good vehicle, but that is besides the point. I know that if it isn't a Ford or GM product it is junk in many brand lapdogs. These guys live in all domains, for example worked with a guy that was a certified Dewalt power tool service tech, yep there is such a thing. Well I have had Porter Cable, which Dewalt guys call absolute JUNK. Well the Dewalt tech, guess what had the older 18V Porter Cable equipment for his personal equipment.
@VB-bk1lh22 күн бұрын
@@thomasheer825 I don't fault a full size van for being unibody but it definitely hurts their versatility and longevity. Frames are far ore easily repaired than are unitized stamped structures. Fiat is shit, sorry, there's no better way to put it. I dealt with them back in the 70's and 80's and they were shit then, and what I've seen lately isn't any better. They've got a nasty habit of over complicating things and building junk that doesn't hold up. They've ruined what was left of Chrysler, and if they release that turd of a truck here it'll likely just be one more nail in their their coffin. People don't want tiny little shit boxes with front wheel drive, they want real trucks they can afford Nothing I see about that thing fits that bill. Not to mention it looks like an absolute death trap. As someone who drove 18 wheelers, cars like that don't fair well on the highways where traffic can outweigh them by 30 times or so or better. Lets see some towing tests for that thing, try hitching up a front wheel drive pickup to a 2,500 lb boat and trying to get it up the ramp, if it didn't drag your ass to the bottom in the first place.

I'm looking at the comments and I don't know what these people are thinking. This is a MINI TRUCK, like back in the 70s and 80s. You know the Ford Courier, Datsun and later on the Dodge, Plymouth, Mazda. Remember the Dodge D-50? with 116HP with the 5-speed stick? Yeah, that's what this is a basic Mini Truck. The problem is the EPA and the stupid Nanny systems they put on American cars that are an annoyance that people just learn to ignore then wonder why they got in an accident. The Unibody thing isn't a big deal this is not for serious work this is a light duty at best small truck, an El Camino or Ranchero. I don't care for the FWD and I would hope for an AWD version and would be happy to throw 20-30k at it depending on trim level. The Mid-level trim is where I would want to be, and it could still be cheaper than the Mavrick XLT that starts at 32k.

I like the Maverick, but need at least a 6.5 ft bed. Regular cab, manual trans is ok, unit construction ok if its rwd, 4 cylinder 175 hp, prefer a inline 6, manual windows, ps, 4 w disc brakes, and steel wheels. Options limited to a/c, cruise, tilt wheel, full size spare, various sound systems. Realistic starting base price under 20k. My 2nd gen Ram 2500 has base gas V8; standard a/t, ps, 4 wheel disc brakes. Options are: tilt wheel, cruise, 4.09 rear with limited slip, split bench seat, full size spare, heavy duty cooling and a/c. I think a lot people would buy a base truck with these types options and be happy with it, if it were priced right. Limited options and colors keep manufacturing costs down and help improve slim margins. To help dealers offer plenty of accessories to be installed by dealers to keep customer interested in customizing to individual needs.

A Ram-badged Fiat. Imagine the quality

They sell the Ram 700 for less than $15,000 in Agua Prieta -- across the border from Douglas here in Arizona. But there are heavy small-truck tariffs going back to Pres. Bush. VW also sells a cute $15k pickup, the VW Robust. Look it up. But you will never see these trucks here. Old tariffs, and now new ones from Trump. Too bad. Politicians could care less about American workers.

Before watching: That looks like a Fiat Strada. That's a great 3rd World small puck up truck. After watching: the real competitor of the Maverick Pick Up is Fiat Toro.

Any truck with less than a 6ft bed is useless as a truck. Never had a truck with less than an 8ft bed.

Give us truck that we the people can work with! This might be a start to what might be in the future for people that can't afford a $80,000 vehicle. There are more working people then the people who can afford a $100,000 vehicle.

90% of all non commercial pickup owners in America rarely ever carry a bigger load than a few shopping bags. Most don’t buy pickups because they need them, they just like driving big, noisy trucks to look cool, or something.

If there is a market for this outside the US, it will take China buying 3 of these and 6 months to start delivering a cheaper model that works better.

No way will they sell for under $30K no dealer will allow it. Doesn't matter what Stellantis wants if the dealers decide they will charge more, and suckers pay more, that's gonna be the new sale price.

It's a Fiat sold for years in other countries. It has always cost much less. It just America wants to pay insane high prices for trucks.
@IvanQuaglia12 күн бұрын
the truck sells since long time now in Southamerican market as Fiat Strada and Ram 700 in Mexico, but is not up to the USA standard and likes. Latin NCAP gave 3 stars has only 4 airbags with unstable structure specially to side pole crash. and is quite small in the back without nice plastics, and engines are very small, 1.3 and 1.4 less than 100hp except for the 1.0T 120hp. The bigger Toro/ Ram 1000 should be better product.

This is not a commercial/work truck. This is for carrying a gas can for the lawn mower or bringing home a wet, muddy dog!

They may introduce that style of truck but it won't be 16k, likely twice that

With the size it is, it should be Dakota and not Ram. Way to diminish the Ram name guys. Kind of like Ford putting the Mustang name on SUV or crossover or what what ever that thing is. The only thing I like was it comes in a single cab that looked like it had some space behind the seats and you could get it with a 5-speed manual. The rest of it, blah. They still don't get it. Pass.
