Thank you for covering the DeX aspect. Love it. Protip: launch DeX, go into DeX settings, then enable the DeX-specific developer mode to allow window resizing and app compatibility for all apps (you can also go into Labs but I hate having the Labs icon in the status bar). This should be default behavior. Samsung makes DeX way more of a barrier than it needs to. Re: browsers, Chrome has a flag to load desktop pages on large displays, and Edge has a toggle to always load desktop pages. Samsung Internet does a decent job of loading desktop pages but has a lot of compatibility quirks, as you noted.

@@Anonnonon Samsung Notes "integrates" with OneNote by effectively creating an image, for all intents and purposes, in OneNote. I like the outside screen for day to day phone use, and I love the ability to watch a full big screen at the end of the day. I can multitask 3 apps at the same time when I need to at work. The spigion case is much better than the Samsung pen case. I hope they put the pen inside the phone like the note in the next generation and make dex available without an external screen. I won't get a normal candy bar phone again.

A lifehack to improve your DeX experince: 1. Activate developer setting; 2. Enable setting "Force activities to be resizable" 3. Enable setting "Enable freeform windows" This makes split-screen and freeform windows available for any app. It may cause bugs, but many developers are overcautious, their apps work just fine.

I saw a YT poll that suggested that many have tried DeX but then did not use it afterwards, only 15% used it once a week! I think the problem is that you are tied to a desk and need to invest in all the accessories. I can buy a cheap Chromebook and be able to have a mobile DeX experience not always having to be at my desk to use it. I see why developers and Samsung are not improving it, way down their priorities, their own research suggests that it is a bit of a dead duck though having a tiny niche fan base.

In a way, the Galaxy Z Fold 3, or at least the idea of it, is the antithesis of a traditional tech ecosystem of having 2 or 3 separate computers. With Apple’s ecosystem for example, ideally you have an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac; and all three devices will interact with each other seamlessly. You can get an Apple Watch, AirPods and other accessories too, but those three computers are the core of the Apple ecosystem.With the Galaxy Z Fold, you essentially get the a similar experience, but it all through one device instead of having three separate devices connect together and pass information. As of right now, the Z Fold cannot replace a traditional computer ecosystem just yet, even for casual users who may still need the one-off app that’s only available on real desktop operating systems. But the Z Fold 3 is coming pretty close to becoming a good alternative. Also, considering that it’s actually cheaper to have a Z Fold 3 compared to having 3 separate devices with similar specs, it’s definitely a tempting proposition. But we’ll just have see where it goes from here. I’m really hoping other companies join in and make this 3-in-1 form factor of a computer work even better.
@andyH_England3 жыл бұрын
Quite true and the funny thing is, that the majority of YT creators blowing the Fold trumpet have multiple devices and always have another (candy bar) phone in their hands for review purposes as they use their MB Pro 16/15 to render their output! I am sure one in a few ten-thousand could manage with the Fold3 and if it was value then I would say great, but even for them they would be far better off using a proper tablet (attachable keyboard support) in combo with a candy bar phone, $1800 buys a lot of great hardware. I suspect the reality is that most that can afford this luxury Fold3 have other devices to get real work done. Def fun for those with deep pockets and looking for novelty and bragging rights, but for those of us with a limited budget for what we need, the Fold3 should not even be on our radar as it falls short in too many ways.

After owning my Surface Book since 2016 (as my main workstation, secondary gaming device and main entertainment device) I have to say that I truly prefer my "2 in 1" devices in the form of my laptop / tablet... while my smartphone remains primarily what it is. This is coming from a guy that his first Android device was the Motorola Atrix + Multimedia Dock, and then the Sony Xperia Acro S (which had 5 different I/O in the form of microUSB, microSD, microHDMI, 3.5mm, SIM) and I used them both as the current Samsung Dex solution.

Fold 3 and Dex are forcing us into accepting the world of compromises but full of potential - it isn't the best phone to carry around, it isn't the best gadget to write on using pen, it isn't really a tablet although the 120 Hz screen is great, and despite the great experience of using Samsung Dex using M7 Smart Monitor, many of the great apps are not designed to capture the user experience of Samsung Dex. But I have left behind my iPad Pro and HP Elitebook for almost 2 months now and force myself to adopt to the lives of only Fold 3 and Samsung Dex. All I need is to be able to use Whatsapp, Outlook, Signal, MSTeams, and Microsoft Office to review ppt slides, accounting/financial modeling in xls, and letters/legal document in doc. I hope Samsung Dex will progress from now so that all our work can be carried in the pocket whilst on-the-move, and be displayed on Dex at home when we need it.
