Terrapower put their project on hold because the originally planned on getting fuel from Russia. And well you know the story with that idea. Now they are getting the U.S. taxpayer to foot the bill for a U.S. plant to make their fuel but that will take 7 more years. They are already receiving $2 billion in matching funds from the taxpayer even though the current estimated cost for their reactor is 2-3 times the cost to generate electricity by ANY other method. Do you think it will get any cheaper in the future??? If it is such a good idea let Billy Gates pay the bill instead of screwing over the taxpayers for his dream.

There is a company call Deep Isolation who can drill down so far into earth , below anything that would be a water table or geological active and place all the nuclear waste in there where it will never be a problem. ​@pedrohugoneri You might want to look up the cost of moving 1 pound of material into space. And then look up the laws of physics and gravity. Because everything we have put up in space will eventually come down. Mostly burning up in the atmosphere. Heat plus pressure plus nuclear fusionable material = radioactive boom. So not only unfeasible and costly but also unsafe for the future.

Definitely not a fan of TerraPower, Bill. I don't think the answer to the world's energy crisis lies in nuclear energy ultimately. If it does, it's from the great free nuclear fusion reactor in the sky.

Solar power doesn't work when there is no sun out and we have yet to come up with a long term storage solution for solar power. Also it would take a solar farm 21250 square miles of solar panels to do the same job as 500 1GW generators . So no Solar is not ever going to be enough to power the entire nation. And that's without factoring in the roughy 1 to 2 square miles of battery banks required to store and distribute that power. For individual homes Solar Panels might work most of the time. But Nuclear produces more power at less cost.
