Why the Apple Vision Pro is incredible but maybe isn’t worth buying. Also, let’s debunk some myths.

I want to start out by saying that I bought this Apple Vision Pro with my own money and I’m not returning it.
Having said that - it’s the most conflicted I’ve ever been about a product because there’s such a massive gap between how I feel about it and whether I think people should buy it. I also think there is some misinformation out there - so we’ll debunk some of that.

What's up everyone?! I hope this fair analysis of the Apple Vision Pro was helpful. Did I cover what you wanted to know? What else did you want to see or learn about? Would love to know what you think. Is the Apple Vision Pro something you would buy? And why or why not. If you’re currently using something else, please share your experience with me. I am grateful in advance 🙏

Very reasonable assessment and conclusions, though i would add the people tend to forget voice input as an option. You could dictate instead of type. I have had to a few times, and it seems to work. I have yet to pair keyboards, trackpads, or trackballs directly to VP, through Mac Virtual Display they seem to work well, even when tracking outside of the MVD screen and into native VP screens. However, I did notice that my trackball paired with the MBP did not work outside of the MVD screen. Also, I hated 3D content and found it very cumbersome, however, now with  Vision Pro, I can’t get enough of it… Absolutely love every second, of every minute, of every hour i have spent with VP. I just hope and pray there are ZERO deleterious physical effects from long term use of this device… 🤔

Many are returning it back to Apple . It’s just plain bad for your eye health . And for this price you still need to give and take on the user experience… and be compared to quest 3 that is the cost of apple care on the Vision Pro ??? Come on man ? It’s logic .
@superzero4250
@superzero4250 3 ай бұрын
@@davidwong7283 Logic would tell you that double the RAM cost more. That twice as many cameras with three times the resolution cost more too. What about a desktop processor instead of an anemic Android smartphone one, including a dedicated processor for latency. Does it cost more to have three times the display resolution for each Optical Micro OLED lens vs LCD. An outward display cost more than a plastic cover. Metal and glass tends to cost more than plastic in general. So does magnetic attachments. Also EYE Tracking technology definitely cost more than none at all… If you were to shatter the display shield on the VP, the repair alone would cost more than the Meta Quest 3. Just compare that to any smartphones screen which is significantly smaller surface area… Some people’s logic tells them the Earth is flat… 🤔

You are using the battery wrong. It’s supposed to be plugged in most of the time while you sit. But then gives you the freedom to walk off into another room and grab a drink and eat dinner and then come back and plug back in. Think of it like an EV, you get over the range anxiety and the omg, it would take 2hrs to fill up anxiety, because you realize that 90% of the time, you just plug it in at night and it’s done and you never have to think about it again.

Motion sickness: I am a pilot who has had instrument training. When you start this training you must learn to ignore the signals from your semicircular canals in your ears. You must learn to believe what the instruments are telling you and not how you feel. Having had many hours of this type of training and flying, I had no motion sickness with the Vision Pro. I suggest that if you simply use the Vision Pro long enough you will get over the motion sickness just as I did when I learned to fly IFR. Practice...Practice...Practice.

I went to Demo it, and I thought it was really cool. I asked the Apple associate if I could connect it to my Windows computer and I wasn't surprised when the associate said no, it's only compatible with a MacBook. I have no interest in getting a Macbook, just to get all functionality, I would have to add the cost of buying one to an already obsorbiant amount of money for just the headset. I love tech and I'm fine with investing in bleeding edge technology, but that price, just cuts too deep.

6:08. No, it does not have eight times the capacity. The AVP's battery is 35.9Wh, and that UGreen pack has 90Wh, that means the UGreen only supplies 2.5x the capacity. Amp-hours means nothing without a voltage, the AVP pack is 13v, the UGreen pack is only 4.5v. To compare the two you have to compare watt-hours. GREAT pack though, I own a number of these, and I highly recommend it.

In the end, VR/AR environments are still a very solitary experience when you aren't chatting in an online VR space with people around the world. AT home, with friends or family, it's very isolating. Someone needs to create a way for one user to share AR elements with other people wearing a headset (again, locally, in the same room, not online), so that if they want to watch a movie together, they can, or if someone wants to watch their flatmate (for instance) play an AR table top game, they can. If it doesn't already exist, I think that would be a great feature to work on.

I am curious why the battery is so big and heavy for not much battery life. They really should let you “pin” windows to your view, with a little warning if it detects that you’re walking around outside or something. There are so many use cases for this For productivity, the biggest thing for me is it has no USB, meaning a bunch of professional use cases are not possible. As a music producer, not being able plug in an audio interface, or a latency-free microphone, just makes the whole thing useless.

Great video. I’m glad you didn’t feed the trolls. Other tech reviewers should consider the possibility that the average consumer might not be stupid. The first Mac was $7k in today’s money and the first 4k flat panel tv was around $16k! First Tesla $100k+. My robot vacuum was $5k initially and I caught a sale for $499. My point is ADULTS recognize when something is too expensive NOW, but it might be worth while later. Those are the people asking you questions about the AVP. Immature people get angry when they can’t afford something and spend energy trying to tear it down and ruin the experience for everyone.

The battery charges via USB-C, however a proprietary connection is not so outlandish either. It also provides a built in security feature for the platform not only to prevent physical disconnection, but digital intrusion as well… Remember, it’s a computer with a Mixed Reality Display, essentially a wearable iPad. You don’t want it to be MageSafe or a simple USB-C connection, where everything could just abruptly stop with an immediate lack of power… 🤔

Ugg. No your sponsors battery isn't 8x more than the vision pros. All these ignorant reviewers looking at the mAh rating on the battery completely ignore the voltage rating. This is a 12v battery bank. mAh comparisons are only valid battery bank comparisons if the voltage is the same, because battery capacity is REALLY measured in Wh. You can't just stick the cable into some other battery as it's not a USB connection putting out some PD voltage, it's a proprietary battery system where the 12v is sent straight to the AVP without conversion to some other voltage. This is how batteries work internally with devices. Having the battery bank convert voltage there only to convert it again in the AVP would add another layer of loss to the mix and reduce efficiency and effective battery life further. Apple rates it at a 44Wh battery which is slightly less than half of that chargers ~100Wh capacity, which would charge the AVP battery less than twice due to conversion and charging losses.

But I don't think they want a lot of these out in the wild. Reviewers say it's pretty delicate, and Apple doesn't want to be in the repair business. So they want this to go to the few while they figure out if there is actually any use case for such a device.

Thanks for watching. Yes, conflicted, due to the gap between the amazing experience and having to wait for more content. Plus everything else mentioned in the video. And I agree that if Apple cut the price of any of their products by 75% they would sell more units.

@@TechGearTalk I appreciated your video, sorry I didn't start with that. Another challenge is that historically, Apple has had problems getting developers on board with new technology that isn't quickly and heavily adopted. It's expensive to develop for this new product, so apps won't be cheap. Will enough people be willing to buy them? Enough for us to maintain them? We'll see. All the best to you.

Thank you for the kind words. That’s an excellent point and definitely a challenge. With a small user-base are there enough to help support developers at the beginning - or does it need to be subsidized somehow. It’s going to be interesting to see how it goes. Appreciate you being part of the channel 🙏🏻

if you are returning the product or somehow got it for free for your review, then it was not valid because you did not have the financial burden that a normal customer would bear. When you actually have to pay, you will be more selective.

I'm super picky when it comes to techs new or old but that doesn't mean I will trash talk everything that come out because I'm a logical person. VR/AR is obviously the biggest techs advancement after all those overpriced touchscreen phone keep releasing to milk Apple' continous fortune. All the suffer with all the useless gimmicks that have been releasing and is nice to see Apple is going for the big things. Let's see how it goes because VR/AR barely shine because of poor marketing and the lack of decent Apps/games to unleashed the great potential the device could have

I agree that apps/games will drive everything. There need to be enough users to justify development cost - which is kind of a catch 22. Super excited for what's to come.

I’m confused why people are complaining about the lack of apps when Apple literally said literally said they need developers to get their hands on the headsets first to develop said apps. What I heard when Apple announced the headset was if you’re not a developer and you buy this you may not be the brightest bulb in the box, so how was it a short coming . It is literally an experimental headset. If you don’t have the money to know that this thing is not going to do everything you want it to do you probably shouldn’t buy it.

Thanks so much for watching! I can’t speak for other users. Personally I’m not complaining about the lack of apps and content - I’m simply sharing that at this time it is in short order. I’m super excited to see what more and more developers do with this in their hands.

Every other VR headset has thousands of apps and games available from the start because they are Steam VR compatible. But Apple decided not to make it Steam VR compatible. So there will probably never be Google Earth VR on the AVP which is an app that is mind blowing on the Quest headsets. AVP owners are really missing out there because of Apple greed.

Now I absolutely agree with your assessment. I never used Face ID for that reason. However, having said that, you have to scan your face in order to use VP, so I finally capitulated… in a world of Google/ Alphabet, Facebook/ Meta, and Amazon which are literally technologies built from accumulation of personalized data, least Apple is the only company that states they are not capitalizing on your personal information. Not only do they safeguard, but also tends to be more transparent and forces collaborators to be transparent too. Apple says Fingerprint, Face, and Retina data are stored in device. Seems true thus far… 🤔

Trust me Engineers in Construction will not be conflicted, we have specific uses for that device. I’m sure Surgeons in the Medical field will also have use for it, for training purposes. It wasn’ made for games, or conference calls, or Pokeman, the Industries I’m talked about , will find this device a bargain.

The commercial applications are unquestionable. Have already spoken to pediatric neurosurgeons and automotive engineers who love the concept. They have a few other concerns for this first Gen - but there's no doubt that it can become an incredibly valuable tool. And of course - commercially - the price isn't an issue since the ROI is much higher. Thanks so much for watching!

@@TechGearTalk enjoy you content, even though we are in different fields of work. As an Engineer and Engineering Analyst, tools like this will make our work much easier, to think back back in the 1979 I used a mainframe computer that filled a ground floor of an Office building. Fed in a tape with Data, and got the answers on a printout. That was the best we got.

@@shuttzi9878 For training, I have apps now that can take a body apart in layers, or look at individual organs, my grandson who is 10, uses such an app at school, and at home on his iPad. In engineering we use Logic diagrams liked to schedules with dates, what is excellent we can review that logic in 3d! It is an extremely fast way to see how things affect each other, add time scale and you have a powerful tool. As an Engineering Analyst we can put things that caused accidents together, and analyze why something failed, the NTSB do something similar. I’ve always said, in a plane crash the first thing they want is the Black Box, because it always survives. I’ve told Boeing why don’t you put wings on a Black Box, it will always survive nobody dies.

This is a device for adventurous forward thinking individuals. Just how Smartphones revolutionize the digital space which is so ubiquitous now, so too will this. As a person who usually waits for the four iteration of new technology, I knew the implications when they announce it a year ago, and began saving on day one… Ninety-Five percent of what one can accomplish with an iPad you can with the  Vision Pro, they basically use the same apps. Practically is a matter of preference. Some people have an accessory attached to their smartphones for easier use while others do not. Some find Bluetooth earbuds practical while others find them annoying. Just because someone lacks VISION, does not mean everyone else does too… 🤔
