FYI: The Ultra is now on Android 12, not 11, and it goes up to 16 GB of RAM not 12... Having said that, the Surface is ridiculously overpriced. If you're considering a Surface look at the Dell XPS 2-in-1's they provide a VERY similar tablet like experience, have better specs, better screens and a better Wacom-Technology Stylus.

I have the Surface Go 3 the 10.5" model with an i3. I bought 6 months ago and thought I would use it alongside my laptop has a tablet to watch YT and take with me on trips for emails and so on. The Go 3 has become my full time home PC. I use it docked for paying bills and writing docs, Tablet mode for YT or reading articles, and as a laptop for casual browsing. It fits my needs better than an iPad or Android tablet.

I'm glad I watched that video. I had a surface pro x and tried to use it for work. It does pretty good but it's an arm chip and you're always waiting for it to do this or waiting for it to do that. I recently upgraded to the surface pro 8 and I can't tell you the difference. Having a real operating system with multitasking and so forth is golden. I really missed using a real computer. I did buy S8 Plus tablet and I really love it for media consumption. The interesting thing you didn't touch upon what you should is there's been such a move towards remote PCs like Windows or Microsoft 365, and we use another one called right networks which actually allows you to run a PC through the Android tablet

i went from the S8+ to the ipad pro but couldnt get over the size reduction from the aspect ratio and forced bars on youtube videos so today i switched it out for the S8 ultra. its like night and day and i got it on sale from bestbuy for $800, the same as the ipad pro.

I usually hate black bars, but I've found 3:2 aspect ratios offer a nice compromise between the absurd bars you'd get from displaying 4:3 content on a 16:9 display, for example 16:9 and 4:3 have bars on a 2:3 display, but they're much much smaller. 3:2 is also a superior aspect ratio for tablet usage and, strictly in my opinion, for gaming in landscape mode.

I have the S8+, and I think it's the perfect sweet spot size-wise. I also think the official keyboard without the trackpad is the better option for portability, especially if you want to use it on your lap.

Here's my review of the 16GB/522GB S8 Ultra. I got the 16GB RAM/512GB SSD S8 Ultra it was $517.59 from Samsung with a Tab S7+ Trade-In. They gave me $600 trade-in credit (my total cost from Samsung for the Tab S7+ was $531). I also got the Book Cover & the Rugged Stand cover free... The 14.6 Super AMOLED screen is amazing. S-Pen is the best stylus on any platform. Super fast processor. Speakers are fantastic with lots of bass - loud and clear, crisp highs. VERY impressive. The S-pen and it's low latency is spectacular. The super-amoled screen at 120 mHz is hard to tie, let alone beat... One of the GREATEST features of the Tab S8 Ultra that no one talks about is the 'Second Screen' feature. SuperDisplay a $10 app works really great. The Tab S8 Ultra has basically replaced my Wacom Cintiq as my main Photoshop editing device. It's higher resolution, wireless, lighter, portable, and the S-Pen might be even better... Samsung's built-in 'Second Screen' works OK, but it used to work much better than it does now, I don't know what happened, but hopefully they will update it to work as good as SuperDisplay does. Plus, the device is awesome all on its own... Literally blown away by how great it is! The S-Pen is fantastic and FREE in the box. You don't need to add a paper-like screen protector ($40) in addition to the $130 you'll pay extra for the Apple Pencil... I'm a 30+ year Professional Graphic Artist. When some say that there aren't Professional Visual Arts apps on android it's just really incorrect, because I use them everyday. Autodesk Sketchbook, Infinite Painter, Concepts, Krita are just a few of the apps available on the Google Play store... There are many more... Are there a few apps available on iPad that aren't on the Play store? Yes, of course, but a good carpenter never blames his tools, and with expertise and talent you can do anything and everything on android apps that you can do on iOS apps - NO DOUBT. If you're already entrenched in the Apple 'eco-system'... Then pay the extra $500 to $1500... But guess what, the Tab S8 Ultra supports HDR10+ and has a 120Hz refresh rate, so your covered. I'm the surface pro gaming guy and have done lots of gaming videos testing the pro 8 i5 and i7 along with egpu.. you can play so many more games and also emulate and use touch screen so it's the best of both worlds.. without the egpu you just need the right mix of resolution 1440*960 and settings

Things are simple: You need to run a pc app? (Microsoft office, some business app for your work, etc), go for surface. Galaxy tab CANT do that. You want media consumption? Go for galaxy tab s8 ultra. It does that much better. Watching Netflix in s8 ultra, it is cold, no fan blowing, in 2 hours it still has 80% battery.. And you are watching to a bigger screen, oled and 16/10, small black bars, amazing sound by 4 speakers, plus dolby. Do the same in surface, you are hearing the fan, sound and screen is much worse, 3:4 screen is not for movies, you see big black bars, in a much smaller screen.. And in 2 hours you have 50-60% battery.. They look that the can do both, but they actually can't. You need both.

exactly, plus sf performs quite disappointing when faced much heating issue (eg been working all day ). one thing you need to remember is that surface run on window so its require ram and storage more than tab.But man, the tablet office version is such a jerk. And the dex performed good but not matchable with sf.

This is a bit of an apples to oranges comparison as the Surface Pro is a full PC, while the Tab S8 Ultra is not. In my mind, the pen quality paired with screen specs are the most comparable factors between the two. But I do see how this comparison would be useful for the layman who's more unacquainted with the differing features and case uses.

I have all 3 and the Surface Pro X, albeit sometimes short on battery life is better in all respects except for the oled display on the Tab S8. iPad ha better software choices but Stage Manager is failing as a substitute due to fixed window placement and it always opening a new stage instead of just replacing one of the four apps open. So, even though the Surface isn’t the best hardware or display - it’s the best all around. You won’t be caught not being able to do something on the surface. The iPad and Tab S8 have a long way to go but the Tab S8 is closer than the iPad to a true laptop replacement.

Got the S8 Tab Ultra. Love the 14" screen. Needed a TV/tablet for my camper van and this was the best option I found. It came bundled with my S22 Ultra pre-order. Love the screen and now plan to upgrade my older TVs/screens at home to OLEDs..

As the guy who has had every version of the Microsoft surface, I think you sounded up really well if you’re looking for a laptop replacement and sometimes a desktop replacement even I powered two huge monitors using the Microsoft surface stock and it works brilliantly if you wanna laptop go with the surface if you wanna tablet well I’m not a Google person but get a tablet if you wanna tablet I think like I said you send that up perfectly. There are two devices meant for two different things and I’m a firm believer in that you buy the device for the task that you need some hybrids are nice you can bounce back-and-forth. I very rarely use my surface as a tablet. It’s mostly as a laptop replacement. I do occasionally use it where I flip the tape cover backwards and carried around, but mostly as a laptop replacement.

I have to agree. I have a Surface pro 3, and a Galaxy Tab S4, and each one is better for certain purposes. I've tried to use the surface pro as a "tablet" but the heaviness, and the system OS prevent it from operating in that space. Obviously the same for the Tab S. Its good for entertainment consumption and minor work/school assignments but the limitation of the OS and processor prevent it from being a heavy duty player for a laptop replacement

Very useful. The Samsung is for consumption and the Pro 8 for production. As the Surface is also made by the OS designers it works seamlessly with all the MS software and hardware. The pen is also superb. So as a producer of material I have just bought a Surface Pro 8 and Keyboard to replace my 3 year old but still great Pro 6. My daughter, who is a doctor, wants that Pro 6 for her work as she creates drawings and content for teaching student doctors. I am a big Apple user (MBP16,13, iPad Pro and pencil etc) with a Mac mini driving the fantastic Studio Display and a 4K Dell. So having a Surface Pro may seem strange. The answer is I’m an engineering teacher at a major university and so the software compatibility is important. However, during Covid we did a huge amount online too and I found the Apple gear is the best for AV creation. Finally, I notice how quickly Samsung and Android gear goes out of date. This is not the case with MS and Apple. So as long term investment either of those manufacturers is a better buy. If all I wanted to do was play games and watch films on the go, I’d still opt for a smaller form factor. Hence I love my iPad Pro 10.5. It may be old but it’s super light, has a great Smart Keyboard and excellent speakers. It’s also less of a theft magnet than that large Samsung. As that is also so thin I’d worry about it getting damaged when in a backpack. So Surface Pro and iPads for me..

I disagree. As someone who owns both these devices. I can say say the samesung is also for production. And the surface pro is not worth the price as it is much powerful on paper than it actually is in real life. A laptop with lessor specs and half the price for some reason is more powerful than the surface pro. I ran cad software; demanding software. But for a device that was almost $2,000 as i had the surface pro with the highest spec, I expect it to run it. I ended up having to buy a $800 laptop with lessor specs that ran it smoothly.

@@s.m.5343 not a ‘kid’ I’m an engineering lecturer, as stated, with hundreds of students from all over the world. Android was tested at the Uni and found lacking on security and function for engineering work. We abandoned Google office and related suites many years ago due to security issues and moved to Microsoft online and on machine for advanced tool like project pro and Visio pro. Finally we use a large range of cad software etc and it all works fine on my surface pro 8 and some of it on my iPad. Android will not run half of what we need unless in virtual mode. Finally I’ve used it all over time, it’s my job so an unnecessary and incorrect comment. Not lol…….

The last sentence makes the video quality go up true , but windows has also a tablet interface, and on s8 you will run in dex mode to better multitasking but a downside dex cant be activated without the keyboard , you cal later remove the keyboard, on the windows side yes slightly better hardware and if you pic the arm64 version of surface is kinda limited of graphics

If you have the means, the budget, or if you already have a laptop/desktop PC, I'd recommend going with the Galaxy tab. If you want to have one, single device, then go with the surface pro. Just a quick heads up for the people who are excited to use their first tablet and cannot wait to swipe left and right like they do on their high-end phones but now on a bigger screen, unfortunately, surface pro products are quite frustrating to use as a tablet. The experience is incredibly different compared to how you go about with your phone. It is a half-decent laptop that happens to have a touch screen, but still a laptop, not the tablet you desire to have.

Got Surface RT on the release day, and I love it as a tablet. Since I only use it as a tablet, I have no problem with Windows RT and I am happy with it. However, I will pick Tab S8 Ultra today since I got three up to date desktops and one laptop already. Need a pure tablet more than a hybrid.

As someone who has owned both the Surface Pro for several years and the Galaxy Tab Ultra. I would say the Galaxy tab Ultra is by far the better buy. The Surface Pro is not as powerful as it says it is on paper. I had the most expensive core i7 1Tb surface pro and it wasn't nearly has powerful as an HP laptop half it's price with lesser specs of core i5 and less RAM. Dont just buy something because you were previously impressed with it; if there is something better out there in the market; get that. Otherwise youre no different from an Apple sheep. As someone who went hard for the Surface Pro. I can say the Galaxy Tab Ultra is a better value. The surface pro is getting so expensive for what it is and the lack of power it has to run the programs I need it to run. I still had to buy an actual laptop to run those programs. Defeats the purpose of having a tablet that runs windows.

I have an S8 ultra.. I love the 'idea' of the large screen but its just too big to carry/hold/use. It works great as an external monitor though. The S8+ is a bit better but it would really benefit from a 3:2 or 4:3 aspect ratio. Its too long and feels awkward. While I love large screens the S8 is probably the most useful samsung tablet to carry... The iPad Pro and surface pro both have much more comfortable form factors. I know 16x9 / 16x10 is better for media consumption but quite frankly I can watch videos on an under $100 amazon tablet. I don't need a premium tablet for that... but a lot of things a premium tablet is good for don't work as well in the long screen form factors. Samsung needs to stop insisting on 'being different' than apple here. The S3 was the last samsung that did it right form factor wise.

@@yuu9258 its a matter of usage... consumption vs creative. 4:3 / 3:2 aspects work better for note taking, creative and productivity tasks. They provide more usable screen space before becoming to large/awkward to hold/carry. Your right that 16:9/16:10 provide a better video watching experience. Although the + and ultra are awkward to hold and the S8 is in need on an OLED makeover to get the most out of it. I have an S8, S8 Ultra and iPad Pro 11. The iPad sees the most use by far because of its form factor and my usage which has very little video watching. If samsung made an 11-12" 4:3/3:2 aspect oled tablet the ipad would gather dust. But they keep insisting their market is $800-$1000 video watching devices. lol. Thats why there isn't just one device. we all have different requirements, likes and islikes.

For the money that a Surface costs and the inconvenience of a OS (Windows) that was never designed to be operated with a finger (instead, it's designed to be operated with a M + K), I'd buy an M2 MacBook Pro, any day of the year. The S8 and Surface can't compete becaue they were designed for entirely different purposes. One is a tablet for students con needs to take notes in class, for people who needs to make a slideshow presentation while adding notes on the go, for people who just want to consume media and do simple tasks like surfing the web, watching videos on KZbin, checking social media, watch movies on Netflix/Disney+, etc, for 2D/3D artists who need a second touchscreen monitors for when they are drawing or sculping in 3D on their desktop/laptop computers, etc, while the Surface has a more powerful CPU and OS that can handle more complex tasks for productivity. If you need that much horsepower for productive activities, I'd rather buy a MacBook Pro with the M2 for that price, or a more powerfull notebook with Windows (if thats what you need) for the same price as the surface.

Wouldn't get one based on my experience with my SP6 stopped working within a week to be given a "refurbished" device when i could have bought that outright for half the cost. Not just that the keyboard case stopped working in less than 18 months. Same thing happened with the charger if it was just one product I'd understand but everything i bought had to be replaced in nearly a year except the pen. Microsoft products always look good but are never made to last and the SP6 had major heating issues.

have to say id take the samsung from a useability standpoint. yes windows is nice but on a tablet not so much. also the surface heats up even in word, has a fan and stuff while the samsung is passively cooled. battery life on samsung is also better. essentially youd just get a laptop with a shitty keyboard. android just feels much better on a tablet. i find it to be the perfect middle ground between the ipad and surface (nice to use as a tablet but still a full filesystem and stuff)

The keyboard for the tab s8 ultra is not that good; I could never get any real work done without getting irritated. You're better off with a wireless keyboard.

A dedicated wireless keyboard definitely opens the door to better keyboards. It’s what I do when I’m at home. But on the go, I don’t want to bring a keyboard with me if possible.

The surface pro beats an android tablet in every way possible. Having owned and tried both the Android tablet is too locked down to be fun. My Surface pro is a full PC in my hands, and since it is a PC I can prevent ads on this video, twitch, open any app I want, it's a no brainer.

you can block ads on android too use yt vanced or yt revanced. for browser there is Kiwi browser which is desktop chrome.

Yeah. Even the samsung browser has complete ad blocking functionality. Honestly an ignorant comment saying the Android tab is too locked down. You sure you're not referring to an iPad? Android can be as open as you want it to be. I download torrents all day on my android.

if you desperately need a windows environment, and let's face it; some people can't use alternatives to Microsoft Office, then the surface pro is for you. Just don't get the least expensive one. We've all been there and done that with our laptops at some point. And at some point you have to ask yourself why you are buying a mid-grade PC for high-grade prices. These cost as much as laptop workstations but you get less RAM and no professional GPU. So you need to really love windows. If you don't need a windows environment, go with what suits you from Samsung or Apple. These tablets have been great general purpose laptop replacements for a few years now

it's tricky to take account of price but if I'm going to pick one based on just using experience I would always choose iPad over android tablets. The quality and quantity of the apps optimized for tablet is pretty much incomparable. Android side of the industry generally don't give much attention to tablet market and their user base.

i would argue that the surface pro has a one word advtange windows, windows just blows the competition away. it really is not quite a good comparison. one is a windows device whereas the other is true tablet.

I use MS Surface at work and the main disadvantage for surface tablet is that it has awful cooling and always throttles from heat

That was only a problem in older passively cooled i5 versions. The older i7 versions, and especially all the SP8/9 i5 and i7 versions which have a much improved cooling solution, don't suffer from this problem.

@Mohammad Al-Shuwaiee No I do not, I speak from an experience. It's a design flaw due to it being so thin and not enough cooling, sometimes the screen itself will split from the main body. We have been testing them since 2020, most of us have returned them for RMA due to that major issue

But to warn you, the battery on the Surface Tablet is not top notch for Xbox Streaming, and having the tablet off of the charger for an amount of time could be eco friendly. Thumbs down on the Surface Pro 8 Tablet, because it won't get you by on the Battery and Processor. Including, I would want to avoid the Windows 11 Ad Version Update! Samsung Galaxy Tablet S8 Ultra would get you by with Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 11.2k mah Battery! Gsmarena Compare.

android is an ass for any multitasking. A Windows with s would have more window's, windows is definitely a definition of multitasking. Doesn't mean android tablet is bad, it is just not for multitasking purpose
