The design on this thing is amazing but I've just had way too many QC issues with the G14 specifically. Out of the FOUR units I bought, 3 had issues straight out of the box and the GPU started artifacting after 1.5 months of use on the fourth machine. Returned it and got the Legion Slim 7 AMD model instead 😥

I actually returned my ASUS Flow x13 with a ryzen 9 7940hs and 4050 because of how ridiculously hot it would get. The CPU (playing tf2 btw with fps capped at 165 which is the screen’s refresh rate) would consistently be above 95 degrees. I’d expect this from an Intel chip.
@andrescarrasco12486 ай бұрын
95 degrees is supposed to be safe for mostly any CPU of the last 5 years, Ryzen 7000x desktop actually are designed to reach 95 degrees without caring for the cooler in use, they just get that hot and give you all the performance they can (and your cooler allows) and as far as I know CPUs on laptops do the same, they are supposed to be in non dangerous operative temperature up to 105°, so 95° is kind of a safe temp, I don't know for sure just an enthusiast but my 4800h reaching 95° for years is working like day 1

It seems like unless you're going for a higher speced model the Legion slim 5 14" is a good bit better. Ports on the back are something I think alot of laptop manufactures need to adopt. Atleast for power and video ports.

Wow that things running spicy. When I got my msi gp66 i7/3070 laptop it had similar temps actually. I ended up experimenting with a ton of diff cooling solutions, diff pads, putty, paste, shims and more. I will say it may benifit from reapplying the paste or Liquid Metal and try to see if they are using pads or putty for the vram and mosfets and stuff. Prob would benifit a lot if you try a few diff things although it’s def trial and error

@nineflyerr386611 ай бұрын
Thinking about getting this laptop with the 4090 to get the miniled screen as well. However, the TGP is limited so much due to it's size so you're not really taking advantage of the 4090 capabilities. I have heard, however, some 4090 G14 owners flashing the M16 or Scar VBIOS onto their G14 4090's to increase the wattage. Not sure how safe it is for long-term, but deff worth looking into. What are your thoughts on that VBIOS swap if I go for the 4090 g14?
@TechGuyBeau11 ай бұрын
Based on really bad temps I’m getting here with just a 4060, I think that might be somewhat risky. The g14 even with beefed up cooling couldn’t handle a full watt 4090 most likely

TGP isn’t relevant on 4050,60, or 70. They run almost full performance at very low wattages. So ignore those people (they are ignorant of this factoid). Personally if you can afford it get the 4060, it is a much better gpu and will last longer. The 4050 is still a nice option but if the money is there.

The G14 with an RTX 4080 is a better buy, but not for the price. The RTX 4060 model is a waste of money as you won't be able to push native FPS + resolution. Buying a $2,100 laptop here in Canada that can't even run modern games at native res with proper framerates is a good way to waste money because you'll need to upgrade in a year from now. Not only modern AAA games - CP2077 is now almost 4 years old already. This is all just not a good sign for the RTX 4060!
