Since no reviewer has pointed this out, I'd like to inform ppl from my own experience with an ROG laptop with a MUX switch that when you unplug and expect armory crate to turn off the dGPU to save power, it often fails due to many windows processes still using it and you'd have to manually go into armory crate to stop them and do the switch. When you do plug back in, Nvidia still runs in "optimus" mode (display signal buffers thru iGPU), limiting power and G-sync options. Nvidia does offer an "auto select" option ("Nvidia GPU only" when in game and "optimus" otherwise) but when you unplug, armory crate would still notify you that it cannot overwrite this "auto select" setting. You'd need to specifically and manually choose "optimus" for armory crate to turn off the dGPU.

I got my 2024 G14 about a month ago, same config as yours in this video. I can confirm pretty much everything you mentioned and I'm happy with my purchase. The 16gb soldered isn't a huge dealbreaker for me, as I don't do a lot of heavy duty graphical work - whenever I'm editing video for work, I do it on an overpowered desktop rig at home. I did do some light editing on DVR while traveling (mostly just some small tweaks to existing projects) and I did not experience a lot of lag or stuttering. Audio editing for radio and podcasts works without a hitch. Casual gaming on older titles is fantastic on the OLED screen, for recent triple A titles I have to turn down the settings to high - not really a big deal, as the small OLED screen is super crisp and has great, bright colors. Watching 3K or 4K videos is amazing; can't see myself going back to a non-OLED panel after this. Normal productivity like writing, spreadsheets, emails and browsing is a breeze. Finally, battery time is not bad at all; depending on the task I get anywhere between 6 and 9 hours. Overall, I think this is a solid model. As you mentioned: it's not perfect, but for the first gen of a completely redesigned G14 I think it largely succeeds.

Got this laptop last month and I love it. I've owned delll, MSI, and Zenbooks in the past. My most recent one was dell g15 which had issues from day one and honestly I'll never buy a dell again but that's a story for a different day. This truly is a all-in-1 laptop. I originally got the 16gb laptop but noticed just having the computer on idle 50% of the Ram was being used...with the casual video editing and gaming I do it got to 90% quick. I got a nice desktop for the heavy lifting but I use this to record podcasts and do lite editing. Ended up returning the 16gb and got a open box of the 32gb. Glad you called that out cause it was the biggest L for me on this laptop. Just like you I would've liked a 4060 32gb version. So I essentially paid an extra $400 for more Ram.....RIP. I did get the intel-wifi chip also as many channels recommended. I also suggest getting gHelper instead of the armory crate. This laptop is so easily portable it will motivate you to go to the coffee shop or brewery to get some work done. My old dell was too thick with bad battery life and a MASSIVE charging block for me to really want to use it in public areas. Portability in my opinion should be #1 reason you buy a laptop if you don't already own a desktop. Anyway. great review glad I clicked this video you got a new sub!

One observation: for video content creators that don't utilise micro-sd's might not be ideal , but for ppl that use action cams a lot its perfect. I want with me in the field the thinnest package possible and the ability to just pull the micro SD card from a camera and put it fast into the laptop in order to empty the content.The extended battery life ,lets say compared to a Blade 14, also helps when on the go. You kinda want to previsualize your stuff on the go and when the temperatures are cold, lets say 10 C or below , every bit of battery life helps. Nice little review anyways!! Cheers! 😉

Great video as always. Potential advice if you're sticking with this, is that the USB4 port on the left supports the same bandwidth as TB4 (40Gbs) so "most" TB4 will have a successful handshake and accept the USB4 port and it also runs up to 100W PD and supports pass-through so leave it in Performance Mode which you will miss out on around 2% CPU (multi-thread) and 10% GPU compared to Turbo/Manual but I'd prefer that and keep a one-cable solution. Cheers.

Solid advice. Seems a good mid-range to premium gaming laptop in the thinner and lighter sector. It is expensive. e.g. in the UK, it is £2400 for 32GB/1TB/R9/4070. Still cheaper than the M3 Pro MB Pro 14 with 36GB/1TB but closer than it has ever been at a £300 difference, and looking online you can get the MB with a £250 discount. Of course, if you are buying for gaming then the ASUS would be the best choice, but for pro users with no OS preference, I would still prefer the MB for its better battery life, lower fan noise, cooler running, better speakers, and has comparable performance and display.

I personally love the G14 line. Though it's not as small as I would like it to be if the ideal laptop for me existed, it's an excellent device for my workflow, with plenty of headroom for leisure activities like gaming and outdoor use. It has excellent battery life, a minimalist design, and a small form factor. It's 90% of what I would want in a laptop. The only improvements I would wish for are better battery life and performance off the brick. However, in this day and age, there is no laptop that combines the efficiency of a MacBook with the gaming capabilities of a Windows gaming laptop. The G14 is a perfect mix of both, in my opinion. Though this video discusses the 2024 G14, my experiences with the 2022 model have been excellent, despite it being two years older.

I just wish they still had Mini-LED. I don't want a screen with a limited lifespan from burn in on a laptop. Updating my comment... I was looking at the Snapdragon X Elite laptops and decided to pick up the Lenovo Slim 7x. But while I was in Best Buy I got to demo the G14 and realized that it was practically the same weight, with more powerful hardware, with a similar OLED screen (albeit not quite as bright but with higher framerate). Battery life tests from tech reviewers were also really good for the G14 and it has a much better port selection. There's no compatibility issues with ARM Windows. It has much better speakers, too. Overall it just felt like a better package for not that much more money, and while I am a bit nervous about owning an OLED laptop and burn-in, I have implemented a few tricks to hide the menu bar in Firefox and the taskbar in Windows to prevent excessive static screen elements. I'm returning the Lenovo and keeping the G14 - though with the Zen 5 announcement in a couple of weeks I might return the G14 too and wait for the updated one lol.

@@DanielRodriguez-fg5ll I am not 100% certain and this is to be confirmed Basically tb4 = intel and usb 4 = amd and have very similar functionalities USB 4 can only provide around 100w which is not enough for this laptop, so you need to have a dedicated cable to power the laptop (monitor and periphericals should work via a dock on the usb 4 port) Tb4 have higher transfer speeds than usb 4 but still cannot transfer more power (100w) than usb 4, so having tb4 on this laptop wouldn’t solve this problem ( since the laptop simply draw too much power for that type of connectivity) Tb5 could enable 240w of transfer I repeat that I am not very familiar with tb and usb 4 specifications, this was what I understood when I searched for a laptop about 2 years ago

Hi , can you guys give me some recommendations of choosing this laptop or asus vivobook pro 15, they both had 4060 display option, similar screen build quality , just the cpu and the design different, I don't know which one I should choose .

I really wish next version for 2025 has Thunderbolt 4, and charging port to be USB-C! Expandable memory and storage!
@Andorski5 ай бұрын
You can charge via USB-C, but using the actual charging port is better since it will power the laptop directly once the battery is fully charged. All laptops that use USB-C charging only charge the battery while the battery powers the laptop, which drains the battery life over time.

Depending on the power draw when the laptop is docked, i think usbC is till limited too 100W soo until that's improved upon.... Must have that charger plugged in.

No, AFAIK the RAM is not upgradeable.

I was actually debating between the 4070 version of this and the 2023 4090 version with miniled. Went with the 2023 version which should be delivered in a few days. I still get fomo when i see that gorgeous oled screen and the the design of the 2024 version
@Havanu818 ай бұрын
Why not the G16 with a 4080/4090 instead? I have a zenbook pro 14 with the same oled, it is amazing. But a good Miniled has its own benefits - like higher brightness.

@@Havanu81 I wanted the small form factor because probability is important to me. I'm also using this to replace my PS5 (and a few other systems that I'm selling) but I'd like to comfortably play on my TV in 4k so I think honestly just need to get over this OLED thing. I am probably gonna get one of the 4k OLED 32 inch 4k monitors for my desktop so that'll satisfy that itch lol

@@alben1703 better price and cooling system (less noise more cooling) imo. g14 had finishing issues in the past so idk if it still does on this newer model. drawback for legion is its weight even before carrying charging brick. but you must carry one since its battery life is average for a gaming laptop.

13:02 It took you more than half of the review time to get to this laptop's BIGGEST weakness--memory non-gradability of the machine. It's just sad. I hate it when manufacturers take away user upgradability in the name/pretext of efficiency--Biggest problem/turn-off for me. HATE it! Saw a great deal on eBay for this model but as soon as I saw the memory isn't upgradable, I just said to myself two words, "fudge it".
@ideasaboutthings88576 ай бұрын
with ai all laptops will have to more or less become “gaming laptops” simply for the gpu usage etc so it make sense that the zephyrus is basicallly transitioning into a beefy zenbook from an aesthetic pov
