If I were in the market for a computer in the price range of $6000 or more, I'd be eyeing a dual socket Epyc setup, for Christ's sake! $6000 is the price of a *base model* Mac Pro. Yes, indeed, the model which has an *8 core Xeon* and *Radeon 580X* graphics. That has got to be the worst deal of the decade for sure. The 2019 Mac Pro is a terrible buy, even if you're a person with access to near unlimited money. That is a fact. Period. There is no argument, there are no ifs or buts. It doesn't matter how attached to the brand you are. God have mercy on you if you unironically buy this and expect something "professional". ON THE OTHER HAND, so I don't get crucified here, the display (excluding the stand fiasco) is good value for the money. xXx_420_360_HaX0rDaN0uSkoupah#sWaG#l3g1t_darud3w33dstorm_360_420_xXx Nailed it. I used to be a loyal fan of Apple. I’ve still got a 2012 MacBook Pro running strong. Let’s face it, Apple isn’t even close to the company they used to be. I’m putting together a PC build soon that is HALF the cost of the new Mac Pro and has nearly DOUBLE the specs. Anyone buying that new Mac Pro is absolutely clueless, and would be an idiot to spend that kind of money. And the fact that you’re locked in to using an AMD GPU... yeah that’s a no from me.
@thebristolbruiser5 жыл бұрын
It's pretty reasonably priced compared to similar workstations, actually. Compare it to Lenovo, Dell, or HP and their workstation offerings. It's more of a pro tool, rather than a prosumer tool, which is why the price seems like a sore spot.

the trashcan is like a caricature of everything Apple always was (yes, including the Jobs years). It is the result when you folliw Apple's overall philosophy to its logical conclusion. @@Kekmit It's very difficult to fairly knock the original iPhone and the original iPod, and some of their PC designs have been really high quality as well, but it's always hit and miss and depends a lot on exactly how you derive value from your products. If judging purely on price/performance ratio, Apple usually does badly, but they score exceptionally highly on lifestyle integration. Let's say, for whatever reason, maybe you're a creative professional, or just a busy professional who needs a lot of automation/tech integration, or maybe you're just rich, you have a need/want for about two dozen tech devices scattered across your home, and all kinds of peripherals for those devices. But if you're a busy professional, how much of your life do you want to dedicate to picking and choosing all those devices from the hundreds of brands on the market, weighing up the pros and cons? And then finding a way to fit them all into the style of your home, your decor/interior design, and then you've got to handle all the dozens of warranty services and support lines, keep track of all the distinct operating instructions and button layouts, make sure that everything is well integrated and compatible, etc etc. The price you pay for the Apple product incorporates all of these non-tangible benefits. Of course it's *possible* to do that if you're a techie, or if you're just dedicated enough, but if you're not, Apple provides a relatively convenient solution if you're willing to pay the premium. And that does mean you'll end up buying a few turkeys along the way (like the trash can), but that's the price (or one of the prices) you pay for not thinking. Maybe people should think more. Personally I believe they should. If they get burned by buying Apple products without thinking, perhaps that's for the best.
@hemipemi5 жыл бұрын
@@Kekmit The thing is people expect Godlike levels of innovation from Apple. That's the sort of talent you just can't *buy*. You can't just throw money at the problem. I know it's premature to say it but I'm sure Steve Jobs will be remembered in history like Beethoven, Leonardo da Vinci and so on. I'm not making any specific comparison between him and those individuals, but his name will end up on lists like that. People will say "oh but he didn't actually invent the products", but it's not well known precisely what his contributions were, only that without him the spark doesn't seem to be there. We assume all the great figures of history worked alone but I bet a lot of them had a large team of 'apprentices' working under them and would take credit and control of promising projects - it's not like any kind of accountability existed back then and history tends to smudge out the details.
