What also works: Black acrylic paint, diluted so that it's translucent. With a fine, thin brush, paint the translucent black paint into the crack. Not perfect by any means (solid black images look gray at the scratch, and so do solid light images) but better than the blazing white of the unpainted scratch. And for a smooth repair, paint it on the scratch when the screen is horizontal. 😢

It's not easy. I think it will be 100 days of short bursts of action before I see a good result. My scratch is on a 4:3 screen on a retro computer that wasn't supposed to work and it's a "Vincent van Gogh" to me right now. It seems safe, though.

Crest 3d whitening toothpaste and a microfiber towel removed a medium scratch on my sceptre monitor perfectly.
@Sabrsulab2 жыл бұрын
I understand why he's saying sandpaper is a no-go, but I don't like this method either. He's telling us that the grit of the toothpaste cannot exceed fine gritted sandpaper? Instead of this method, use a variable speed buffing wheel with a light buffing compound. You can operate as hot or cool as you'd like and while both methods remove material, the compounds used for buffing are designed for light abrasions like this. Toothpaste has variable, unmarked grits. They also make buffer wheels for dremel and you can use one as a drill attachment, although you may not get the required drive speed if you do. All-in-all, there are people suggesting that you do the toothpaste method for a lot of different, potentially expensive, household items and using the buffer it is easier to monitor progress, just make sure you're leaning the wheel into the cut (filling the hole back in with as much plastic as possible). What this guy doesn't explain is that for fine-grit applications, they don't use sandpaper, but transition into compounds that have equivalent grits labeled on the container. If you tried the method outlined by the content creator and it scuffed the screeb, you can also use buffing to finish the process and smooth the screen back out. If it over-polishes the surface, use rubbing alcohol to remove the compound once the resurfacing process is complete.

hi! not sure if u will see this comment but does this method work on the plastic border?
@TechKyle5 жыл бұрын
Hi! This method should work decently well on plastic bezels/ borders. They are most of the time of harder plastics, but with toothpaste only you should get a pretty decent result. If you want better results you can try with some more professional anti-scratch paste(s). Good luck!

Hi, I'm really sorry to say, but I'm afraid toothpaste won't fix this. It sounds like your screen is broken, and if the screen itself is cracked it may be more affordable to get a new one

This method seems to be hit or miss when I researched it. Our tv had a very small discoloration and we had a TV repair man come out to fix it. The repair man was several hours late. He didn't fix our problem. Instead he horribly scratched the screen when he was working on it and now we are thinking of either fixing it or replacing it. But these methods will be used last if repair products don't work.
