Techland.... WHAT HAPPENED?! Dying Light 2 PS5 Impressions

Keep in mind people this is just my first impressions of the game. Me being a dying light 1 fan and just playing it again recently, these are some of the things I noticed RIGHT OFF THE BAT. Just wanted to be honest. I'll have updates if anything changes or I start to feel different with dying light 2 for those interested or bummed out cause they were gonna get the game. Which......I mean.......you should still play it for YOURSELF and make your own judgement at the end of the day 😂

Thanks for your honest impressions of the game man. Myself included was hyped for the sequel and playing it on performance. I don't have any issues with being 1080P, the thing i don't like so far is that core abilities are not even available at the start. The gameplay does get a lot better more into it though but i agree with most things you mentioned.

In the first game everything had a realistic visceral feel to it, everything had weight, you, your weapons, and the zombies. Your weapons would get stuck on the zombies bones instead of slicing through them and you could feel your weapon bouncing off of them, the camera would move in the direction of the swing, enemies would ragdoll in a unique and realistic way every time depending on what you do to them. When you kicked a zombie into a spike trap, the bodyparts that didn’t get stuck to the spikes would continue moving with the weight of the kick, all of it felt real because of the physics, yet all of this Is absent in the sequel and it feels like the game was made by a different developer.

Something felt off and it's definitely to do with how the combat doesn't feel right in comparison to dying light 1. The weapons not feeling like they have the weight to them is a good point.

@@GreenMoon083 Idk why anyone is even mentioning guns. NO ONE PLAYED 1 FOR THE GUN COMBAT. Bro i cant even remember using a gun in 1 aside from near the end. The real issue is the MELEE combat. Why is there health bars by default? Why does the game magnetize you from 10 feet away to make sure you land attacks? Why are there hit markers you can't turn off? Those last 2 things make it feel like im melee attacking in CoD, rather than fighting in the first Dying Light. The first game was about physics based melee combat, who tf cares about guns when the core of the game is melee combat, and it feels like they made it for casual CoD players

@@CashSoprano it was very rare for a game to be broken out of the box though, that's because devs actually used to finish it & test it enough before putting it out😭😭 + a lot of the time, the games would have more than enough content to not even need an expansion, but they are nice to have now. its fine to fix minor bugs with downloads now bc obviously no one wants to play a broken game. its just reminiscing on the aspect of being able to pop and play, no one said that games are worse now because you can't do it. imagine a kid nowadays getting a new game and taking it to his grandma's with no internet for a week. only to find out after his hour long install of the disc, his experience is messed up by game breaking bugs. thats how things are nowadays. single player games shouldnt take 20 patches or dlcs to finally be good & playable. i see way too many people calling new games the next cyberpunk bc of the state they launched in and its sad tbh.

I think the biggest issue this game faced was that it’s story and Rpg elements were reset in 2020 because Chris avalon left the studio and all of his work was deleted. Clearly the development he’ll contributed to the final game

Here's what they could do to improve the night system. As we know Volatile Zombies don't spawn in until chase level 3. Level 3 gets you Volatiles with virals aka runners while 4 is nothing but Volatiles. They need to place them back on the streets AND rooftops along side with the runners and howlers. In DL 1 Bolters were always guarded by 1 or several Volatiles at night that patrol the area. This one doesn't. Re-add them to that but with the new howler zombie variant to really get that "Oh SHIT" butt clenching action. It would really put emphasis in using tactics from factions which either to go with traversal from survivors or traps from Peacekeepers and really utilize UV bars, UV lights, traps, distractions and really put a kick into the old saying, "Goodnight and Goodluck."

11:40 exactly this point. Those first moments in DL1 are amazing with all of those zombies all over and you basically have a pipe as a weapon. You simply can't take them all on. That's DL1 to me. You slowly start to overcome the hordes as you progress and then new zombies types are introduced into the mix. That entire formula is GONE from DL2. No idea how they f'ed that up. It's like they thought people only liked the parkour stuff from DL1, so now there is this huge focus on that in an empty world.

@@killshot3682 That's not even the point though. There is a whole horde system in the first game during the day that isn't even in Dl2. Like zombies just constantly spawning and shambling after you. The first few hours you basically have to ward them off, do your objectives and just run away. That was the fun part of it. They turned DL2 more into an almost empty open world RPG game than having swarms of zombies all over the place like in the first game. Also, nightime is totally nerfed in DL2. They made it way more "casual friendly". Night time in the other game was threatening enough that people actually avoid it. I think that part is missing. The devs brought up that "people avoid night in DL1 and they didn't want that", so they nerfed night in DL2. Which I think was a huge mistake. People might've avoid night, but that in itself, like doing your objectives before night was tense. Sometimes you got stuck out at night and had to sneak back to a safehouse.

Biggest problem for me so far with this game is the movement. Its like there isn't any sprint toggle feature and you're forced to run. There isn't a normal run/walk plus whenever you do sprint you just stop and then keep running, it's so annoying. I thought it was my controller but its the actual game itself. I hope it gets fixed soon but other than that I like the game so far

Im playing on ps4 pro and tbh all i want is a solid fps. I Do not care about graphics. Just give me solid performance. If that means downgraded graphics, then fine. My ONLY issue with this game is the infection timer. I HATE timed crap. I wanna take my time and be stealthy. Not feel rushed. Id give it a fair 7.5/10

I would say you're probably being a little too harsh on the game without playing a little further but it is an early impression. The first game took a minute as well because it definitely was feeling pretty weak until I gave it a chance. The game is definitely easier so to get a challenging experience you need to play on Hard.

@@akkibajaj705 Did you play through the first game? I don't have any questions about people pointing out issues with bugs or the game not running up to par. Only questions comparing the second game to the first in terms of quality at the time of release. People look at resolution without taking into account the amount of polygons on-screen or detail, particle effects and animations in the environment. There is actually less detail in in the original game zombies Dan the second. It could be as simple as artistic Choice thinking the original zombie variations looked better. Resolution may not be as high but it doesn't mean it's not pushing the hardware more than the first game.

I JUST played dying light 1 from the start again leading up to this game. It's no where near as rough at the beginning like this one 😂 and I feel the story missions were better. Imma keep playing this though. Maybe this just take longer......I hope

@@TheGamer2323 Those first tutorial missions leading up to the point where you can play co-op or a bit of a slog. From what I've played and what I've seen from ACG's review, you definitely need to play on Hard. The story and acting are at least as acceptable as the first game. That is definitely where the first game is its weakest. I do like how animated the conversations are with the NPCs. That's definitely a step up. Another big complaint is the progression with skills opening up to allow the games movement and combat to feel fluid and varied. It seems they lean into the RPG elements in making you start with just a bare bones skill set. Graphically they should cut down on the draw distance and put in a dynamic resolution 2 maintain 60fps. The game did release hot, but so did the first. Hopefully they'll update this game just as fast as the first.

I'm also not super far into stay human (3-4hrs) doesn't change the fact I'm enjoying it and on a rtx 3080 it's one of the best implementations of ray tracing to date. Metro Exodus is pretty similar in the lighting effects.

My opinion wouldn’t be HALF as harsh if they charged 30 bucks instead of 60. It’s 2022 the standard should be high. We’re capable of a lot more than what we’re getting. I see videos like this and I sometimes wonder if we are playing the same game. I just replayed the first game a few weeks ago and so far 30 hours into dying light 2 it feels like just a bigger and better game in every way. Combat, parkour & story are all significantly better at least to me and my freinds.

Combat is Worse. No X-ray when hitting a zombie, you can’t hit individual body parts, because of the simplified combat and health bar system. You can’t Repair your weapon. You can’t craft named weapons. There is a Lack of actual named or unique weapons. Rag doll physics are gone and we have no spike traps to launch zombies into. Windmills are worse safe houses because of the Stamina Cap put on them and feels to much like Assassins creed. Night is super safe. Almost no zombie hordes, no roam era or Volatiles roaming so the only thing to fear is that Infection counter what is just annoying.

@@devildolphin2102 I disagree on combat being worse but what people find fun is subjective. To me DL2 has vastly better combat. There are unique & named weapons. There are spike traps everywhere ( have you played the game?) You can target and cut off limbs, i do it all the time and see zombies crawling after me after i cut off thier feet. You can repair items its just in a admittedly awkward manor. Not sure what the issue is with safe houses. Some are fun jumping puzzles now and plenty work just like the first game where you kill the infected and flip on a generator. Night time is very different but id argue the new night is better for the game as a whole even if it rubs a few older fans the wrong way. Night is still scary and tense it just has a ramp up now vs insta downing in volitiles.

@@Kazael What he meant by the spike traps is that you can't push zombies into the spikes and they get stuck in them. There are unique weapons but it's few and far inbetween, and the combat; even though you can decapitate, is a lot more simplified in DL2. You should look at comparison videos.

Played about 4 hours of this game yesterday and returned it to Target pretty shortly after. Wasn't really checking for this game, but it's crazy to think that it took them 7 years to make this piece of shit. Worse than the first in every single possible way. I'm normally not harsh on games at all but I found almost nothing to enjoy about it. It wasn't even broken in a fun way. I'd really struggle to give this game anything above a 3/10. If you're interested, i would wait for a sale because I have a strong feeling it'll be close to $20 by April at the latest.

I remember back in the 90’s when I was a teen, we had a game store called electronic boutique, in U.K. and I used to buy games and take em back within around 28 days and get money back. Basically, get games for free. I was a poor teen and I don’t feel bad. However, after some time they stopped giving refunds for opened used games, they started giving store credit instead. But I’m shocked that in 2022 in America, you can buy a brand new game, play it and return for refund. I’m pretty sure that won’t fly here in our stores.

I played it on PS5 for 20 hours on hard difficulty and it's the best and most fun open world game I ever played, the story is very enjoyable and the gameplay is so much better than the first game by miles, and it looks sooo beautiful on my 4K TV, if you give this 3/10 then you shouldn't even express your opinion about video games because you don't know what you're talking about, it's a 9/10 one of the best games ever made 100%

Bad framerate or bad graphics and good framerate Worse graphics then dying light 1 Worse gameplay then 1 Extremely poor cheap looking zombies Personally, I bought dying light dlc version on PS4 for really cheap and I played a tiny bit bit the main thing that put me off was having to loot virtually every building for materials to make / upgrade weapons etc and that part of fallout 4 become so tedious to me alone, that when I found out it’s in dying light, I just lost interest. I do plan on going back because I’ve played many games that I didn’t like at first and ended up really liking and enjoying the game. I’ve only just learned to stop wasting money on brand new games. Simply because I build a huge backlog and don’t even play some of them and that makes me feel like an idiot. Especially as there’s others that can’t afford hardly any games and if they had my collection, they appreciate and actually play them. Saying that, I guess I’m just not as into gaming, as I was as a kid and sometimes get caught up in hype for a game and that blurs my thinking. I’m deff not buying forbidden west on release and that kinda saddens me a bit because I absolutely loved horizon zero Dawn but I just played it too much and kinda lost all interest in the game and that of course formed for upcoming game. I even bought frozen wilds dlc after so long of not being interested and when I finally went to play, my save was messed up and I didn’t bother. If I remember correctly, I platinum the game max everything and when I clicked continue, I started right near beginning of game but at level 50 and I think I was missing the special weapons you got from the challenges. So I just said fuck it .

The night time play In dying light 1 was definitely scarier, but the story was ass. especially the way “the following ended”. I love the way dl 2 looks and plays, the narration is definitely better than the first. The details and textures are definitely better when comparing dl1 vs dl2 on the ps5, Although dl2 definitely needs work which will come. Building interiors are Littered with infected during the day but during the night the streets are. People tend to forget how shitty dying light 1 was when it was first released, they literally Re-released it as the enhanced edition lol. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion which is cool but dying light 2 isn’t half as bad as described here in my opinion but it’s all love bro. Keep up the good content

Insomniac is king of crafting games of all types. insomniac should teach these dev these days the way of crafting user experience. insomniac provide allot of user preferences like 4k ray tracing and 1440p 60fps ray ray tracing etc Despite all the hates people giving techland for the story, the gameplay carries it. To keep it simple, it's fun and that's the core reason I'm playing games these days. Review scores don't mean anything anymore. Dont get me wrong, Story is decent but not bad. I believe Tech Land gonna improve it because I trust them plus they still gonna support this game for a very long time in the future All they got to do is improve the night mode and zombie physics because it's nothing to close to what it feels like in the dying light 1. In one of their Dying 2 Know episodes, they said they wanted to make the game so that anyone can play it and be good no matter their video game skill people. That’s why it’s so empty and easy, my girlfriend who’s never played a first person game could beat this. There's a possibility that developers are working with new software nowadays, so some games may seem cheap and unfinished. Especially when a company like Techland has a certain budget and doesn't have many employees. People need to lower their expectations, especially after Cyberpunk and Battlefield.
