I just viewed this and was amazed how much effort you put into your testing, i have had my 220w with my new River 2 pro for 2 months, the very first time i used them while camping as you did on green grass i was totally surprised right off the bat i was showing a full 220w charge not every time but close enough to keep me happy. I have yet to try on sand to see the results. Thankyou for the obvious hard work you do. From the East Coast of Canada

I have 2 of these panels for my Delta 2, Glacier and Wave 2, and I've been watching a lot of reviews. Something about the bifacial panels I haven't been able to test, but just math, is that they're different circuits essentially. The front and the back have different amperages. The testing you just showed, in part of my mind, is that these are doing the best they can under every circumstance. I actually bought a set of tent poles(walking sticks actually) to use as the adjustable angle. Rather than leaning them against things, I can just prop them up by the northern holes by sticks. Vive Health, they were $5 each or $40 for 8, so I could even potentially use the case itself as a reflector. At the very least, you proved they're consistent and dependable. During Black Friday they were only $349, two for the price of one 400w panel that was on sale for $699. Winter is coming and I have to figure out how to play with all my new toys.

Thank you for the hard work you put into these tests. I bought these 220 panels after watching your first video. I'm thinking about making some pvc frames for my panels, so I can get more light on the backside. Also, the frames should keep the panels straighter. Should also be easier to move around to chase the sun.

I'm just going to say this is already helping me. I don't know anything and I am trying to only make one purchase at this point. All-in-one battery, a refrigerator and probably the Wave 2 air conditioner / heater for a modular small cargo trailer camper. Thank you. I'm just trying to find out the most straightforward system to charge up something like a medium-sized ecoflow to make sure I have a couple days worth of battery if I don't have a chance to get good solar and I stay in one area for a couple days. I've also got the 400 w Ego inverter so I could take a few of those batteries along and if there's a lot of sun I could even charge those back up through the 100 watt input so I'm hoping to find a solar panel with the 100 watt USB output

Great minds think alike. I was out today and the Northeast using the same panels to charge my eco-flow Delta Max. I was able to pull 250 Watts at my Max. I made a simple wooden frame to hold the panels at the correct angle and easily adjust if needed. I tried some of the same experiments that you tried. With no sun on the back I was only able to produce 220 Watts. I also noticed after about 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours the panel started to get very warm. In the wattage went down. Now the panel says not to be smashed in water but it is water resistant so I took an old shirt that I use for a rag and soaked it in water and spread it over the panel to cool it down a little bit. That helped significantly for a little while but the wattage did go back up. My suggestion to you is if you can. Use the smallest connection to your device as you possibly can you may be losing wattage through the line as your line heats up. Second check the wattage output on the device and set up on the app. Sometimes it takes the app sometime for it. I've never posted a video on here before but I hope to do one next week on this subject.

Thank you. Well done. If using the panels for emergency home home, then I would design an adjustable wooden open-back stand to place the panels on, running the full width of the opened panels, so the EcoFlow "stand" (or anything else) is not used in the middle of the back of the panels. Then I would use some form of mirrors, or reflectors, behind the wood stand so that the sunlight fully reflects along the entire back of the panels. Or maybe not get the bifacial panels and get two sets of normal one-sided panels.

I had a pair of 20 watt bifacial panels that were made in Russia and did some similar experiments with mirrors and all. I found the small gain in wattage output was offset by a great deal of hassle in having to constantly adjust the reflectors to keep an even lighting on the back. Perhaps the best approach would be to hang the panels by wires (to minimize shadows) over a large white or reflective background.. and just cope with whatever results you get. Now that the single faced panels are so cheap, it seems hardly worth it to fiddle with more-expensive bifacial panels.

Household mirrors are fair-to-poor reflectors of total light energy... In my college days (physics major) I recall seeing efficiencies on the order of 50-70% . There are such things as high-efficiency optical lab-grade mirrors, but the cost would be ridiculously prohibitive when we consider the task at hand. Your hard work in these tests is much appreciated. I imagine we were all thinking similarly: How to pump more energy into the rear panels... Your thorough tests using easily obtained materials convince me that for a best-case power boost on the order of 3-4%, perhaps it's best to let the rear panels absorb what they can without added reflective surfaces... especially when we consider the added hassle of repeatedly moving them all. Great series of reviews... .

Just out of curiosity, place the mirror in the panel shadow right underneath facing straight up from the ground. The UV may bounce better like that then the direct sunlight reflection from 3 feet behind the panels.

Thanks for all your work to show us various “hacks” to get the best reflectivity. In viewing other YT’s, I believe the biggest gain is more throughout the daily….total daily watts gained. If you’re moving your panel to have a “perfect” angle all day a bifacial probably won’t give you much gain for the money. BUT if you have rigid bifacial panels on a fixed mount, then I believe the reflected solar energy will be absorbed at a higher daily wattage over the entire daily sun path.

The sales pitch for these dualfacia EcoFlow panels indicates better performance is achieved placing the panel on snow, but is reduced when placed on grass. So, I laid a white sheet on the ground, cited the panel on that and it increased the power input to my battery. Could also try white cardboard. The problem with your own tests is that the rear of the panels faced down towards dark grass and even the reflections from your mirrors, foil, etc made barely any impact. Sorry I don’t have the stats from my experiment, but I invite you to try. Just make sure the ground beneath and behind the panels looks white, capturing more incidental light. Remember also that when the panels become hot, they generate less power, which is common with solar panels. They produce more power when first set up (i.e. just taken out from my garage), then power generation drops as they warm up. I’ve yet to see if a battery-operated fan could help cool them!

I wonder how these backside panels are connected to main panel. Ive heard something about if they are in series or parallel (or something) they wont produce electricity if some part is in shade or less power output so it limits the watts at the level thats lowest. Might explain the small differ with mirrors and other reflective materials.

First thank you for this review! Regrading the back panel I think the problem is with the angle. It is best if the sunlight hits the surface of our solar panels perpendicularly, so the angle of incidence should always be 90 degrees. I think it's hard to find a perfect situation for a BiFacial Solar Panel unless you're using it on a planet orbiting a binary star. :) Or using some special mirror system.

Ditch the cover as kick stand. Replace with 4 small keyrings and a fold up tent pole across the top. Modified tent pole sections for legs in 2,3, or all 4 spots. Can be folded up and stored in cover. Practically the whole back side is now open for reflection. That said, for the minor increase in power from the back side, I'd rather have the same panel minus the back for a significant Weight loss. I just recently bought 2 on black Friday.

To see clear, you may let the back side of the BiFacial solar panel facing the sun. That is the 155 Watt side. Maybe the back side is not working. I have read reviews when they got their Ecoflow solar panels delivered with an internal fault. The 160W panel was only producing 60W. Sent back and the new worked as intended well. So would you mind doing a test with your 220W BiFacial solar panel when you turn the back side of it towards the sun? I am curious of the results. If it goes well, then I will buy this 220W panel for my Topeak journey bicycle trailer.

One important thing you did not take account of. With solar panels, a very small shaded part makes a disproportionate drop in the output wattage. I think this is true of all panels. I have the bifacial panels and in full sunlight, if I placed a 5" x 6" sponge on the panel and it produced a 25 to 30 watt drop in power. You would think that the percentage of area blocked would be proportional to the power drop but IT IS NOT. Furthermore it does not matter where on the panel the light is blocked. Also at the end of your experiment the panel sections were not straight which should have made a slight difference.

That is weird on the glass part being on the back. On my 160w I have a nice durable tough material like what is on the case itself. After all these tests. this increase was so little there wasn't really much left for the panel to give. Seems odd. I seen these panels produce over 180 watts and other times less. I don't know how much connectors play a roll in this? I guess some of these same panels just give more than what some of the others put out? I'd do a test myself, and the sky is beautiful, but my power station is fully charged. It wouldn't really be much of a test. The amps would be almost non-existent. Nice comparison and good video. Just a little jump of topping 6 watts max increase out from 166 to 172 was cool to see the jump, but just in real world seemed hardly worth the effort of setting that all up on a normal bases for that fraction of juice.

Nobody believes me when I say this so disclaimer up front: I’m in hydroponic horticulture professionally. We’ve checked every type of reflective surface because light in hydroponic systems is crucial. The most reflective surface is white. Mirrors, foil, etc absorb light as a gray surface, while white reflects the visible spectrum. Focused light caused by lensing, by a mirror, window, etc can be effective in signaling, starting fires, and so on but with solar panels you want a broad area instead. You can get white paint intended for highly reflective roofs in the US if you really want to go for it, but a standard white paint on cardboard or white poster board should do the trick.

That is impressive. You were able to get 173 watts from a 220 watt solar panel. Efficiency at its finest.

It's impressive how little you get for so much money. There are better and cheaper out there

So let me get this straight. Ecoflow says that the mirror can produce 220wp + 150wp on the other side. From the test this panel seems disappointing. Better get a monofacial model, no?

I prefer the 160w EcoFlow Panel for the price, especially when on sale. Or even a few 100w rigid panels they are like $99 each

Most solar panels void their warranty if you "concentrate" the sun.

Well done. I just got these. I am bit disappointed, I don't think the extra expense for this "bifacial" approach was worth it.

Drop a blanket on the front side! That will tell you what your extra money is getting you on the rear..considering the higher price of this panel for a 220w panel which is only about 10% more efficient on a perfect day than most standard one sided panels operating at about 70% efficiency typical. So paying extra for the "bifacial" side is only getting you 10% better efficiency? or less it seems (even with mirrors!!??) . I'd luv to drop a blanket on the front side and see what the rear side's total output actually is? Seems gimmicky and not performing

Bottom line - doesn't really do anything for me. I'm surprised bifacial panels are so hyped. Maybe they work better with a fixed ground-mount install.

Efficiency of solar Panels is at best 30%. Improve that to 70% and you well on the way to decent return on your solar Power. Hydro Electric is up to 90% efficient and is renewable energy,.

As I suspected this design is a gimmick, nothing more. That back side makes absolutely no difference. The difference you may think you've seen is within measurement error.
