Thanks for the comprehensive look at this radio. Other than tri-band, it just appears to be Mutton dressed up as Lamb.😂

Its getting HT-saturated in the shack. After long radio-inactivity, the UV-5R was the restarter, then came the RT-3 for DMR, then the RT85 because it is clean, and recently some of these 6-band radios, although harmonic bombs, because they can be unlocked to full coverage. So a bit more sensitivity (UV-50R), even cheaper 6 band (UV-K5), or this one, not distinctive enough to justify a new purchase.

Great Video as always, have you thought about reviewing a 6m transceiver sometime. Would love a 70cm 2m 6m transceiver

I bought one of these from a well known supplier in the UK for £30. It was advertised as a UV-16 plus but when it arrived it was just the humble UV-16 - however there are some "idiosyncrasies". The LCD doesn't always show the correct information - eg power setting. "H" shows when low power is set, so I interpret this as "Half". "L" shows when dual watch is set, not "S" so I interpret this as "duaL". NB - there was no "M" mid power setting as described in the manual. Power output using a Latnex PM-100W is a bit higher than yours (5.5w at 145MHz and 5 on 433MHz but who knows how accurate these cheap (£50) SWR/Power meters are. At first I was disappointed with the "idiosyncrasies" and considered returning the radio but after a few days and once I'd deciphered what the display was doing I decided that for £30 I did have a Baofeng that seemed to put more than 3w out so who cares. As a new M7 I'm still getting comfortable working the VHF/UHF bands but even from my poor location I've managed to get into both VHF and UHF repeaters using a flowerpot dipole or a tape-measure yagi and a couple of direct contacts too. APSr by holding my phone up to the Baofeng mic is also working. So - I'm happy for the price, YMMV. After a week or so the paint on the keys has started to rub off - hope I can find a solution.

I own a couple of UV5R. They are spraying a little around the transmitting frequency but I think it doesn''t matter because a handheld is not made for long conversations so i'lI take that for what it is. Though its the same module inside as the UV5R so I don't buy this one. I think they have to come with something new. US frequencies are not alowed in NL

*yawn* same old crap: new case. If they could produce a tri-bander that included 4m (70MHz) + high band VHF and UHF they would have a winner, at least in the UK.

Yep. Exactly my thoughts too, at least you know not to buy now lol

I still think these radios is just another variation of the Tytera-MD380 and UV5r . Not much has happend really.

These radios are being advertised as dual band and if you check their frequency coverage they do not cover the 220Mhz band.
@gregvaughn123123 Жыл бұрын
As far as I know dual band would be 70cm range and 2 meter range, tri band could include 1.25 meter band. If you had a quad band it would have the above mentioned as well as 6 meter band.

I am finding both dual and 3-band versions advertised on some well known online sites. So maybe there are different versions? I have one from around April 2022 , the back of the radio states UV-16 Pro, 136-174MHz, 400-520MHz (with some distance between those lines?) and serial number of 00069 (hehe). Judging from the S/N its one of the first to be produced and as such has some slight issues, the screw holding the antenna connector had some issues (there was a pretty thick o-ring under it that stopped it from threading correctly, replaced it with a slightly smaller one), the usb port is slightly offset from the hole in the body. And the power settings on the radio are only High/Low however from Chirp they can be set to High/Med/Low, it is possible that the first radios had a bad firmware as most reviews never mention this as a problem. Unfortunately I do not have the hardware to test power output so it is impossible for me to know if the settings even do anything.

Why can't it be programmed through the USB C connector 🤦
@5stargunsandgear Жыл бұрын
Baofeng usb c port simply provides charge to the battery and does not attach to radios board

I was into this untill you showed 11dB on the 2nd harmonic. I thought they had got their act together after the FCC banned some radios, obviously not... Shame.
@germanjohn5626 Жыл бұрын
Comes free with ample ample of harmonics, I checked 2 fresh of the box and they were terrible. Looks like always they are just using one filter for UHF and don't switch any in for the other bands. I send them back and got my money back. junk!
@mikesey13 ай бұрын
Don't worry about 'harmonics' from a five watt radio. Any "harmonics' are in the order of MICROwatts, and would affect no one more that three feet away from the offending radio..The American FCC got scared at seeing cheap Chinese radios dumped on the US market, so brought in the "spurious emissions" rules to slow it down.
