RM Noise - While RM Noise is very good, and it has been mentioned by many people in the comments here, RM Noise is Windows only, requires a computer and requires an account to be setup. Also it appears an internet connection is required for log in and reliant upon a server. The product shown in this video is HARDWARE, no computer required. It's like saying to use "HamSphere" instead of a real radio to make contacts!

Who knows. But hey.... You are on a business i undertand you are doing marketing. And... By the Way a PC is also hardware, but... Hey.... This is a hardware that brings you the possibility to usé hundreds of software. If anyone want to usé a hardware dsp just do It, sure there is a cuote of the market. But is also real that 80 to 85 per cent of ham radio con have the same o better results free, al least today.

30 years ago I used a stand-alone DSP filter which had the facilities of this box but it also had the clever feature of putting in a narrow notch filter if it heard a continous whistle. It would automatically determine the frequency of the whistle and tune the notch accordingly. It could even cope with having multiple whistles at different frequencies. I can't see why, with modern technology, this can't be done now.

Some radios have a built in auto/manual notch filter so it should be possible to include in a standlone unit.

I bought this a month ago. I do not have any older radios- yet. I did add to my G90 and there is a noticeable reduction in noise. I found it is quicker to use than the G90's small buttons/menus. Of course it just made an inexpensive radio more costly, but hey I'll find another use for it. Now to go find an older unit to test on. 73.

I still like my Timewave DSP599ZX for use with my old pre DSP radios. And the SOTA Beams DSP unit with the FT-817. This looks nice but is too pricey.

Still got my Datong FL2 from 40 years ago. Needed coaxing back to life (broken pin on RCA skt from wear and tear).Also soldered power lead direct to pcb as did not trust the 3.5 mil power jack. Not DSP but does everything else. G4BTI.

Check how it handles when someone is tuning, how it cuts out that squeal - the 'auto-notch' feature on the Icom-7300 handles it perfectly.

deskhpSDR software has insanely good noise reduction built in. set to trained NR2 and its dead silent makes 80m sound like a cell phone call.

When radios start implementing some machine learning based filtering of audio noise... That should be possible with good results IMO and what's more important models could be updated online or via usb etc (and better radios could have ability to learn / update their local models based on user feedback).

I use the BHI NES-10-2 Mk4 with a Xiegu G90 and it works fine. DNR and amplified speaker all in one.

It sounds quite effective. The noise reduction in particular sounded really good. The upper and lower filter skirt adjustment seemed to work well but, in real world use an auto notch and/or an adjustable manual notch filter would be a must for me in addition. For my fat fingers the 3 controls look like they are too close together to be comfortable to use. It looks like it has been designed to be used by a 10percintile female and not your average fat fingered bloke. It takes a lot to beat a Datong FL3 even at 40years old and I'm not convinced that this gets there yet. I have just bought an IC718 without the DSP filter board and I'm looking for an audio filter bi=ut this isn't it. I know where there is a FL3 going for a good price and I'll probably go for that even though I have a BHI here that I'm not very impressed with.

At this point, why not just buy a more expensive radio with these functions build-in? All this is build into my yeasu radios and not need for another box on the bench...

Xiegu has some excellent technology. They need to combine this with their top notch antenna tuner and incorporate them into a full size rig, with a big screen, to compete with units like the ftdx10 or Icom 7300. Currently, by the time you assemble all of their current components, you could buy a Yaesu or Icom for less money in a single unit.

How does quickly does it stabilise post TX? This seems to be the issue with the BHI noise filters in that they take far too long to go back to their setting after you transmit? Although very good if you are just listening

Long time ago there was a Kenwood DSP-100 to go with TS-850, which basically does the same tricks (at USD$800 or so). When IF DSP came out, these AF DSPs are out of market.

Just a question. Wouldn't a Graphic Equaliser do the same job. Some of them had Scrath and Rumble filters as well. All though it wouldn't have an amplier but some did. I used to use one on an old valve receiver from ww2 and the Graphic Equiliser worked well but that was in the 1970,s. So not sure about modern interferrnce. George

I still have my Dual DSP JPS NIR-12 from 30 years ago and it does the exact same plus different noise reduction methods and auto notch. It is technically almost unused because most of my receivers offer these features built-in. If they would have combined it with a galvanic isolation (transformers or optocouplers) for audio and a PTT relay and had included a USB audio interface and a USB to serial interface for CAT control, this box would probably sell like hot cookies, but offering only one fixed audio algorithm plus the low and high cut is a bit of a joke for such a big heavy case. It is really just useful for a tiny percentage of users with very old receivers/transceivers. While saying this, I think I just got an idea what I will add to my old DSP box ... a USB audio interface and a galvanic isolation, because there is some space inside for another homemade PCB. Anyway thanks for the introduction.

Hi Matt, do really appreciate your videos, however the latset videos has not beeing that good in the editing. I guess you are a little bit hefty when editing the sound layover where you miss some timeframes in the beginning of most of the sentences. It has become more an more obvious lately. I believe you failed to mention that this is a bi channel mono deviceso if filtering a stereo input then 2 units would be needed. So in fact a good studio compresser/ limiter / gate/expander and an eq would serve the same function. Or a variable filter array?

Zygote needs to take their g90 case and make a 6 MM 70 cm 20 watt transmit power all mode and all their other little absolutely wonderful antenna trimmer and noise cancellation that they have on their g90 and by using the same size case you could literally Bolt the two together and have two separate radios therefore being able to monitor HF and VHF UHF very easily
