Yeah it's a sigaret lighter if you're 62year old american who picked up smoking in a second grade
@necro26075 жыл бұрын
In most recent cars there are two sockets of that form factor -- one is a cigarette lighter, and another is an "accessory socket" that provides something like ~10 amps of 12v current (way more than what the cigarette lighter socket provides). You're "supposed" to use the accessory socket for electronics and stuff, and use the cigarette lighter socket just as a cigarette lighter (though you can get away with using most simple electronics in the cigarette socket).
@tdp26124 жыл бұрын
technically, its just a pul for the fag lighter, thats the bit you take out - id argue if you buy a car that doesnt come with the lighter bit, the socket is just an accessory socket, not a cigarette lighter

I also bought a Mobius after his review. In fact, I bought 3. Two in my car (front & rear) and one to use in my bus at work. 128gig card gives over 20hrs' recording. the cam runs for almost 10 hours each day, 5, sometimes 6 day per week, 48 weeks a year for the last 4 or is it now 5 years? I've dropped the cam at least twice whilst removing it & getting out - so at least a 6' drop onto concrete. And still the Mobius continues to provide sterling service without so much as a dropped frame. The ONLY downside I can find with the Mobius is the low light/nighttime footage isn't too good. For me, a dual setup is a no-no, I don't like all my eggs in one basket. my current setup of two identical cams at least allows for redundancy, if the front packs in, I can at least put the rear cam in my windscreen so I have some cover.

Liverpool is an interesting city. It has some very fine architecture although it suffered badly during the second world war. A lot of the city was rebuilt in the 50s and 60s and many of the buildings from that period were utterly hideous. There used to be a Royal and Sun Alliance building a couple of hundred metres from the warehouse you refer to which was amongst the ugliest buildings I've ever seen. Fortunately, many of the worst examples have been demolished now and been replaced with much more attractive modern buildings.
@Jerbod26 жыл бұрын
Well to be honest you can't go much worse than how we did it here in the Netherlands. Amsterdam is known for it's canals and beautiful architecture, believe it or not, Rotterdam was just like that (just google "Rotterdam before bombing") you'll see how beautiful it was. After it got bombed by the germans the city burned days (a lot of the damage was done by the fire, not the bombs) but a common misconception is that the whole city was gone, fact is that poverty and stupid architects did the rest. They figured they could finally get a piece of land that they could make the way they wanted to, with straight roads, that's why Rotterdam is often called the Manhattan of the Netherlands, the skyline is unlike any other city. It's a damn shame what happened there, there's basically nothing left of a once beautiful medieval city, and the germans are barely responsible.
@watershed446 жыл бұрын
Manny Calavera I'd love to see Techmoan do a tour of his city and point out significant landmarks.
@joshuarosen62426 жыл бұрын
Manny Calavera I know Amsterdam very well and it is indeed a beautiful city. I know Rotterdam only slightly and having been there, I was in no hurry to return. I think you are right, short-sighted city planners and architects did as much damage to the city as the Germans did and the same is true in Liverpool. Fortunately, Liverpool is now recovering from that but I haven't been to Rotterdam for a very long time so I don't know if that is true there. I also know Utrecht quite well and that's a lovely city (or is it a town, I don't know how you define a city in the Netherlands) as well.

Hi Techmoan, I wanted to send you a message of thanks. 5 1/2 yrs ago, I watched one of your dashcam reviews and decided to get one (a Novatek 96650 H.264) for my car for the first time. Earlier this week, I had a crash for the first time, at no fault of mine. I was in a turning lane to exit a roundabout when the other person cut me off from a non-turning lane. He admitted fault at the scene, but then later declined to admit fault to his insurance company who have made the dispute so much more stressful. After crying and being in shock for 3 days, I am now glad to say that my insurance company confirmed that I was not at fault - ALL THANKS TO THE DASHCAM FOOTAGE. So, thank you, Techmoan!!! I see that you haven't done a newer review since this one from 3+ years ago. If you have any special recommendations on front+rear dash cams, I would love to know. I will be looking for a set for my next car. Thank you!! xx
@Nighthawke706 жыл бұрын
The Debbie Downer on this kit is the mounting hardware. In Texas, we have this obvious need for sunshades in our vehicles. So putting one up means that the camera and shade may be incompatible. I use a third party mount affixing my camera(s) to the rear view mirror, which has the double duty of making the camera easy to remove (and stow it in a cooler spot) and set up my sunshade. Even if the camera is easy to remove, the adhesive is open game for the sun, easily destroying it in a matter of months. My 2 cents worth.

I bought this a few weeks ago and had it fitted by Halfords (a UK company) last week. I paid them £50 for the install but it was money well spent. They did a really neat job with the power being connected to the fuse box. A word of warning - don't be as stupid as I was! I thought the buttons are touch screen types. In fact they are actual buttons, a point I can see with a torch after re-watching this video. I too strongly recommend this as the picture quality is superb.

After watching this review I went ahead and purchased one, So far I'm very pleased with it and have some very good quality footage, I also watched some of the other videos about hard wiring and using the OBD port. I have gone down a slightly mixed route as I wanted a constant power supply for parking mode. I purchased a dummy OBD port which has the wiring loom attached, but only the 12v and ground connected at the business end, From a security point of view it means that if the car is broken into and they try to hack into the car through the OBD it will show there's power but will have no access to the cars systems, making it appear as if there some sort of other security immobilizer on it and hopefully they give up when they trigger the alarm. Also with the 12v cable live it meant I could tap into that power source without messing with the cars original wiring or playing with the fuse box. I did intend to use the ground but I found a convenient place close by where I could just bolt onto the chassis. I prepped and pre-wired all of the bits before going to the car. so dummy obd and loom, spliced into the 12v lead, this goes to a low voltage unit which would cut the power supply to my camera should the battery power dip below 12v then from there into the dash hard wire kit which has the step down to 5v then up to the dash cam. After routing and hiding the cables, grounding to the chassis. I plugged into the original OBD with the dummy one and hid and cable tide the other out the way and out of sight, last step was to plug the Low voltage unit into it connector and about 20 seconds of it reading the battery condition and then it started supplying power to the cam.. and there its been running for a few weeks. Total cost: £180 Wire prep: 10 minutes Fitting time and routing cables 20 minutes, or 30mins if you're routing the rear camera as well. I'm sure this will depend on peoples cars and skill set of how practical they are, some may be faster some slower. This could all be done without disconnecting the battery aswell.

I'll also add as it was on my Amazon wish list I was offered this camera on a deal so only.paid £85. As for the radio issue you have I had the opposite experience. in media production, if it's not recognized as hobby, the spent time must be compensated (the time is money), also all media in current Internet-everything era are fighting for the consumer time(spent on their content)-it's quite interesting topic about "time deficit" of consumers - advertisers already know that each minute of person spent on their visual content (it's the main trend that we consume today everything visually, children with "clip-thinking", also big discussion by psychologists and etc.) is literally recognised as "gold". To conclude all this - i'm not sure that many people decide to spend their really "precious" time to watch "junk" reviews. I see that Techmoan become very popular because of very unique technical forgotten equipment, which young generation never heard of (and never will, because they also don't have time to learn about it). But if owner see such model plausible, it's his decision, junk reviews is also the niche on KZbin, it can expand the presense or bring new audience.

I mostly came here just to listen to techmoan talk for a 10-20 minutes, I don't really care what the thing is that much because I probably wasn't going to buy it anyway... I mean he does excellent camera reviews but if I was interested in getting a camera then a quick look on dashcamtalk would tell me all I needed to know within a few minutes, then I could go searching for video samples such as his and half of the other stuff he covers is old equipment, which I do find mildly interesting, especially as he gives a good overview of its history but I'd almost never buy any of it myself, so I can't speak for anyone else but his videos are mostly entertainment to me.

Great review! I have already purchased two of these cams. Installed the first in my Hyundai Elantra with no issues.The second is for my wife's Nissan kicks which I install tomorrow for her birthday. Video evidence wins court cases! I had been using my phone and a very good app, Daily Roads Voyager Pro. However, between the app running, all the background apps, and Texas heat, my phones would eventually stop recording. This is when I struck head-on, and had no video evidence. My own attention to detail, driving experience and history were enough for me to get a settlement. I got lucky and had an extremely good attorney. If you want to protect yourself on today's roads and highways, I highly recommend this camera. (I have a 128 GB SD card in mine, and like Techmoan, I save the ones that count to my PC.

Hi Matt, Just thought I would drop a note on this video to say thank you very much for reviewing and recommending this Dash Cam. The benefits far outweigh the lack of Wifi. I bought mine with the extra motion proximity sensor "Hard Wire Kit", which admittedly is so sensitive it doesn't turn off at all if it's windy (flapping leaves/waving trees!!!). Apart from the wind issue, this really extends the functionality to working well when the car is parked, sort of like an extended CCTV system in front of your house :)

According to KZbin your video is at 30p but I notice the dashcam footage has a repeated frame about every second, which doesn't immediately make sense (it would if you were editing at 25fps but the cam was recording at 24fps for instance.) Is that how the files actually are recorded from the cam, or is something else going on (I'm guessing maybe they are actually variable FPS at roughly 30, like you'd get from a phone.) Just curious. Thanks!

Searching around, I found clips from others from this cam and some showed the same problem, and some didn't. May be sloppy hardware timing, and/or may be something they can deal with in a software update. In the end, for a dash cam, it's not that huge of a deal.. but also given the application, where it's constant linear type motion, it stuck out immediately :)
@BlokeOzzie6 жыл бұрын
My previous A119 camera had the same issue; it's fixable with a firmware update, so hopefully they get it fixed in this camera too. The rear cam, oddly enough, does not demonstrate the issue in the sample clips.

Who listens to live radio anymore? Hell I have on occasion listened to Techmoan videos in the car.
@johnfrancisdoe15636 жыл бұрын
Helge Frisenette Anyone who wants to hear announcements about traffic issues (other than random triangles on their SatNav). Also you avoid worrying about what to play next and stay in touch with society in general.
@Frisenette6 жыл бұрын
John Francis Doe with all my years of RDS car radios I’ve never once had any useful traffic information from the radio. You could still have it turned on to have it interrupt your own programming. Make a playlist or use Siri to select songs. I tend to listen to Podcasts while driving though. String two or three together and your covered for most trips.
@vgamesx16 жыл бұрын
John Francis Doe Yeah but if you use google maps then all that traffic is taken care of in the background so you don't have to think about it or if you use waze then I can for example see that there's a pothole a mile away from me and it only took me two seconds to look that up, that's insanely quicker/more efficient. As for music, as Hulge suggested, you can either download some music and let it play in a playlist/random order or there's always spotify and alternatives such as google play music which can play random music, it's just my opinion but I don't see much of a reason to turn on a radio over listening to a curated list of music I've selected for myself, but then again, I am a little picky about the music I like so I guess take that with a grain of salt.

@drazenradosevic74676 жыл бұрын
I have 2 cars equipped with Mobius cams for about 4 years now (decision based on Techmoan review), with 32 Gb each and they work just fine except for batteries. Because of that the real time clock loses the time every time when I switch the car off. This is the only reason I am considering the new dash cam purchase.
@jeffreyd17016 жыл бұрын
regular micro sd cards will fail, you need to invest in a high endurance card.
@drazenradosevic74676 жыл бұрын
No, both cars are in a daily use. I am not sure how long it takes to forgot the time. I don't check the recorded footage on daily bases, perhaps twice a year, and the time is always lost...
@rohant5 жыл бұрын
I have the same one here in India. Now we obviously have much hotter summers than most of other places where this camera might be used. The issue I experienced was not with the camera but with the SD card. I suggest getting a “surveillance rated” SD card, they are apparently meant to be used in harsher temperatures as well as built to be constantly written on.

@Lukas Bieri I saw a video once of a woman capturing a bunch of men fly-tipping (illegal dumping) and they were like "is that a camera?" they then tried to get into her car, one of the men even laid on the bonnet holding onto the wipers so she reversed really fast and the man eventually fell off. So now not only were they captured on camera fly tipping they were also caught trying to break into someone's car to steal a camera. xD

Thank you for this awesome review. I bought this for my husband because he drives so much for his job everyday and Florida has very dangerous roads. I had a dash cam that was front only. After seeing how his worked and your video I have ordered a second one for my jeep and can't wait to get it an install it. I definitely feel better that we both will now have these in our cars facing both ways. I love this has a screen. I don't like the higher end ones that are cylinders because they have no screens and I like seeing what is being recorded.

Regardless that you mentioned that you tried some of these: 1. Get more Ferrite Chokes. install on both the side closest to the camera's base unit, and the end next to the rear camera itself. as only having it on the end closest to the base unit just prevents interference from getting into the base unit itself but doesn't help if the interference is free to radiate out the end closest to the camera or your radio's antenna. Also make sure not to buy cheap Chinese made chokes as often they are made of poor ferrous material, if at all. 2. It's likely the components inside the rear camera itself which is emitting interference when they are supplied with power and possibly not the usb cable that's the culprit... So solution would be to shield the rear camera with proper copper foil as I am assuming you used normal household aluminum/tin foil as this isn't the same as proper copper shielding. Just search Amazon for Shielding Tape, literally a tape roll of sticky back copper foil, as proper copper foil will block out more interference than normal kitchen aluminum/tin foil ever could.. In fact, aluminum/tin foil may actually make the interference worse as it reflects more than what it absorbs, so it could be reflecting additional signals to your digital radio's antenna, unlike copper foil which absorb and dissipates interference across it's surface, rather than reflect.
@watershed446 жыл бұрын
Raven Yes, and you need to make sure the chokes are the correct material for them to be truly effective, few folks realize that there are dozens of materials and the choke material has ID by different numbers in the US at least. A toroid might be a better solution for him.

Great review as always TM. Bought the DR02 after watching your video, I was waiting over a year to decide and I was hoping you'd post something that suited. Got the GPS module too with 128GB Toshiba. Working like a charm. Wish the start up chime was louder. Traffic is so calm and smooth... Wow. Even the taxi driver distance was huge in terms of road traffic in my country. And everybody are driving very slow. Amazing. You really obey traffic signs. I am impressed. I tried to ride in accordance to traffic signs yet quickly stopped as the rage directed on me on the roads was unbearable. I sincerely congratulate you the society that obeys traffic laws... Ps. You pointed out a proper stopping distance in the video. In my country this is often a highway distance for 120-160kph - 3-4 meters. Insane...

Can I just say a massive thank you for providing such a fantastic review channel for dash cams 😊. Having just sold my previous car which had a mi witness AR150 front and rear system fitted ,I am now looking for a suitable system for my VW Scirocco. Sadly ,Having been involved in a collision a few years ago in who h a 40 ton lorry rear ended me (and due to no witnesses, no dash camera...and a lorry driver who could upstage Hans Christian Anderson for telling fairy tales!) I had a nightmare time getting a settlement .....and sadly having almost 2 years and a day in court....the other drivers legal team ran rings around my own and secured a split blame decision.....which , had I had a rear camera on that fateful day, would not have even been called into question! 😑. I now advise EVERYONE to fit front AND rear cameras....believe me....it's the best money you will have spent if you ever have an experience like mine....and you won't have to end up in court trying to prove your story . Best wishes. Have now subscribed. Keep up the excellent work 😉😊

Wow, i had the same aukey and z-edge installed in 2 cars. The aukey still works great, but the z-edge records whenever it wants to. Sometimes a 16 second video, others 5 minutes. No change of settings works. I trashed the z-edge after a year and bought another aukey, which I installed tonight. I learned 3 things from this video though, most significantly, why the time would never stay set correctly! I had the gps hooked up and the time zone incorrect. Glad I watched this video.

Excellent review. I'm seriously considering buying this dash cam. In Australia, temperature range and batteries can be a real problem. I've gone through numerous dash cams in my work vehicle, usually they die during the summer time, so it's good to know this is a reasonably priced supercapacitor cam with GPS abilities, that is half decent!3

Great review, was looking for Tech Moan for dashcam reviews after my last purchase probably 8 years ago from another of your reviews. Purchased this model earlier this week and very impressed with it! Smaller than it looks on your review. Excellent video quality - so much so that I bought another (both from eBay) before they disappeared from sale completely given the unique selling point is that the cameras are discrete (the most significant thing for me) plus the added benefits of great quality video. Great job Tech Moan! The only criticism I could say is that the cables would be better suited if they plugged into the side of the front camera rather than the top as it means having to leave a gap between the top of the windscreen and the front camera unit enough to get the cables plugged in, and to allow the unit to slide into and out of the retaining clip. Still, this is an excellent dual lens dash cam even now, if you can find it online!
