That's why mixing is creativity and understand very well what the track needs. As always, brilliant explanation, Thanks Matthew.

@@WeissAdvice Absolutely! What's interesting is that I was already familiar with this concept and was already applying it without thinking about corrective EQ vs creative EQ. All that to say is that your video inspired me to discuss this topic on my channel, but in Spanish.
@panickedrobert3 жыл бұрын
I think the good thing about only subtracting with one eq and after that only boosting with another is that you go in with a different mindest for each one. You’re the best Matthew!
@WeissAdvice3 жыл бұрын
I agree! Correction is generally a subtractive process (although, not *entirely*), whereas stylizing is both additive and subtractive. I disagree with the notion that "cutting sounds better than boosting", but I do agree that it's easier to stay objective when cutting.

I always do exactly this when I'm eqing vocals! nice to see that I find the same solution, I feel like a pro now 😎.

There's a big resonance on "bug against" im guessing 2khz or so...did you leave that on purpose (to not make the vid to long)... im asking because that would be the first thing that i would have heard and would attack...on the other hand, i didnt hear that lower resonance at first. Question is: do you listen in any order to find them or you just attack what you hear first. Nice vid (again) thx
@WeissAdvice3 жыл бұрын
NeverTheLess! This video is a demonstration of ideas, so there's a lot of things that I skipped over. In reality I take a bit more time with my decisions. I react to whatever strikes my ear first, because it's difficult to attend one issue when another issue is pulling my attention. I find that once I fix the most distracting issue, the second most distracting issue becomes more apparent. There's no correct way of doing this - the only "wrong" way would be to ignore our predispositions instead of leaning into them.

and great question btw

@@WeissAdviceknowing you a bit from your previous vids i could have guessed that😁👍.... its so 'strange' i didnt hear that resonance you handeled at first until you boosted it and then i kept on hearing it when you put it back to neutral...good ear man!

It's kind of funny, if I was someone who didn't know about these techniques as an audio engineer would see this as contradictory. I cut but then I boost...just a little humor LOL Great work Mr. Weiss

thanks, next tutorial how to achieve width while mastering the mix in the box with the correlation meter, because when I booth side signal with waves abbey road TG mastering or bx xl v2 it goes in minus value in correlation meter. 😁
@WeissAdvice3 жыл бұрын
Well, think about that for a second. Sum and difference is a phase based process - so any time you increase width you are going to decorrelate phase. But here's the thing: f the meter LOL! Hit the mono button: does it still hold up? Cool. Do you enjoy the record more now that you've widened it? Great. Thee end!

how to control low mids for clarity in a professional mix?
@WeissAdvice3 жыл бұрын
Good video topic for sure. The low mids are kinda the toughest place to get right - a lot of people will say the low end, but in my experience the low mids are actually much more challenging.
